I'm actually going to all the events this weekend (we leave tomorrow morning) and I would be happy to report on everything once I get home. I'm so looking forward to seeing some great gymnastics from everyone! :cheer:

Men's day 1 scores:

All routines Men's Day 1:

Moldauer did his thing and is leading the AA. His High Bar is upgraded, which he needs to ever be a threat for a medal internationally in the AA. His style is just so pretty. Fred Richard is very exciting and looks very sloppy to my eyes. He is the only person with difficulty on high bar in the US, but it really needs to be cleaned up. Curran Phillips was 2nd on HB, but not measurably so. If he adds more difficulty I would probably take him as event specialist over a PH specialist. The US really has a lot of specialists, don't they? Overall, a good first outing with lots of home court overscoring on sloppy routines.

Some highlights from the men:

Fred Richard High Bar

and Floor

Curran Phillips Parallel Bars

Blame injuries in the growth years. Kids who damage shoulders stop working pommel, rings, high bar and often parallel bar until the are done growing and can rehab properly. Those who damage knees stop doing vault and floor for the same reason. With lack of support for men’s gym, only the rich and healthy survive.

Hi guys! I didn't mean to ghost you and not come back to give a report right away but we got home super late last night and after not getting much sleep last night, it took everything I had to get through work today. I will come back here tomorrow night when I've had a better night of sleep and share some of my impressions of the event. We had a ton of fun, the gymnastics was pretty exciting and overall solid, and we met some great people there too. I'm so glad that we went for all of the events and I can't wait to share some of my impressions with you. Random comment: We watched both the senior and junior women's events sitting right near Jordyn Weiber! :cheer:

OK, so I totally didn't mean to ghost you guys again but work is currently a clusterbomb and I just wasn't able to get my thoughts together enough to post anything here. I do have some pics on my Instagram if you want to check those out: HeatherC1275 :) (Totally random but our hotel was so close to Kentucky Kingdom, an amusement park in Louisville, that we could have thrown a rock and hit like two or three of the roller coasters. It was seriously RIGHT there by our hotel! I guess I know where to stay if i ever decide to visit that amusement park in the future, LOL  )

Anyway, we had an awesome time at the event overall but there were a few things that we thought were odd. For one, there wasn't a whole lot of food options around the Expo Center (and they had VERY few concessions open in our area) which made meals challenging at times. There were other events going on that had food stalls but if you didn't hit them in time, they were closed for the later events which we found out the hard way on day one (thankfully there was one booth that was nice and sold us two of their last sandwiches of the night and also gave us free fries). We did eventually find out there were a few places to eat down past our hotel so we were able to have Cracker Barrel for a meal between the two events on Sunday (our only decent meal of the whole weekend aside from the hot breakfast at our hotel). The other thing that was weird was how many other events were going on at the Expo Center: gymnastics, a flea market, some sort of Show of Shows (not sure what that was but it may have been a knife show), a gun show, and a cheerleading competition. You haven't really lived until you've seen these huge looking guys walking around with rifles and hunting guns alongside these tiny cheerleaders and their moms.

FYI, our seats for this event were along the side with the rings, PH (we were RIGHT near the horse so we could tell right away when they were off balance), and parallel bars for the men, and we were right near the beam for the women. In general, the FX was out in front of us, the high and uneven bars were always to our right, and the vault was across the way from us on the other side of the arena. Just so you have an idea of our vantage point for the events and as a fun fact that baseball fans will appreciate, all the winners got a personalized Louisville bat along with their trophy and flowers during the awards ceremony! :D

Friday: The first event of the weekend was the Winter Cup for the senior men and it was really fun. Yul looked READY for this new season (I noticed the upgrades to his HB start value) and he was solid on all six of his events. I don't remember any huge mistakes from him at all. I love watching him on FX! :cheer: Shane Wiskus and Asher Hong also looked pretty good overall, and Fred Richard on FX and Curran Phillips on PB stood out as being really good on those events. It wasn't the cleanest event at all (even Stephen N. wasn't totally solid on PH although he got through his routine here) but it was enjoyable to see the guys and they all seemed in good spirits. There were some huge vaults going on and I also saw some insane tumbling too. BTW-It was kind of fun to see Sam Mikulik coaching and we also saw Sasha Artimev coaching too! They've got some great gymnasts coming up from their respective gyms and they definitely brought the energy and ethusiasm with them to Louisville.

The Nastia Liukin Cup was the Friday evening event and it hurt both my mom and I's eyes with all the PINK. The girls were all wearing very pastel and bright pink leotards this year so it was eye straining for me (I was battling a headache all day so this didn't help, LOL). The competition was a close one in both the juniors and seniors and while there were some mistakes and nerves from the girls, we had a great time watching everything. Avery Neff was a standout to me (she tied for the win in seniors) and I think she's gonna be a VERY solid college gymnast when she gets there. There was one cutie in the junior event (she had a tiara looking thing holding her hair up) who was SO adorable and a pretty solid little gymnast too. She actually found my IG pics and liked a few of them which I thought was adorable. I followed her so I could see how her career goes because I was very impressed with her. I wish I had written down a few more names but college gymnastics is getting some pretty solid gymnasts in the next year or two from what I saw in this event! :D

Saturday: Our biggest WTH moment from Saturday was that there were people sitting in our seats when we got to the Expo Center. When we told them they were in our seats, they told us it was general admission and that they were told they could sit wherever they wanted by the staff. Mom and I had to get out our tickets and point out that we had seat numbers before they would move somewhere else. People around us were wondering WTH was going on (some of them even said for us to go sit somewhere else ) and we had no clue why anyone was told it was GA when we'd had seat numbers for this event for a while. It was so random and why would we go sit in someone else's seats when we had tickets for our own (very good) seats?! That bothered both of us for a while since we couldn't figure that out (more on this later). The other moment we had in this event was that we sat by Jordyn Weiber for a while. She had a meet in Arkansas the night before but was in town for the women's events this weekend. I spoke to her briefly after it was over laughing about how we had just watched the replay of Arkansas' meet that morning before the Winter Cup ladies event and wished her and her team lots of luck for the rest of the season. She was very sweet so that was fun to see her. Anyway, the Winter Cup for the senior women was definitely a messier event overall but with it being so early in the season, I was expecting that from these girls. There were some good moments (we saw a lot of great UB routines along with some that were trying hard stuff and not quite getting it done) and I loved being so close to the beam because we could see everything good and bad (i.e. we knew when they were coming off the beam and we could tell when something was rock solid). Skye Blakely looked pretty good overall but only did bars and beam. Lexi Zeiss (the eventual winner) looked solid overall on all her events and I really enjoyed Ashley Sullivan too (she came in second). Zoe Miller was awesome on beam and I really liked Nola Matthews overall too. Joscelyn Roberson was outstanding on vault and FX but needs work on bars and beam (although she's got the difficulty on beam). There's a great pipeline coming up for the next Olympics so I'm encouraged by what all I saw in Louisville. We saw Konner McClain after the event was over and she seemed in good spirits (she's still recovering from a back injury). Mom and I are hoping to go to the US Classic in August, especially to see the other US ladies that weren't at this event, but we'll see if that works out or not. :)

The other event on Saturday was the Elite Team Cup, an event for junior men, and it was like a chaotic college meet with all six events going on at the same time (nine teams overall so there were a nine rotations). We also had MORE people sitting in our seats for this event and once again had to pull out our tickets to prove that those indeed were our seats. The people around us were once again acting like we were being weird but this time, we were able to find out that they DID sell general admission tickets for the event which is why people were just randomly sitting wherever they wanted there. The difference for us is that they paid $20 for their GA ticket and we paid quite a bit more than that for our all event ticket so yeah, we're not gonna move for you when we were there for the whole weekend and you came for one event (more again on this later). Anyway, I had no clue who the majority of these junior men were but the gymnastics they did was quite good for their ages. There was one guy who was like the Nathan Chen of gymnastics, a super short guy who could barely see over the PH and had to be SUPER lifted up to rings and high bar, and he was actually quite good overall! His name was Mason Heath and I'm gonna keep an eye out for that one. We were sitting behind one family whose guy was in Region 5 (that team ended up third) and in front of another family whose son was in Region 9 (they finished sixth) and they were all very nice and helped us with the logistics of this event which we were pretty clueless about since we'd only seen this event one other time. The region 5 guy was quite solid and ended up making the vault final for Sunday and the region 9 guy was awesome on the rings (solid on FX and vault too) and ended up making the rings final for Sunday. (Fun Fact: The men's event on Sunday was for the senior men to decide event titles and for the top seven junior men on each event to decide those event finals and an overall winner). This event overall was hard core chaotic and the screaming from the two Penn State guys behind me made me want to smack them silly because it was SO over the top and annoying (and right in my ears). It was fun but I'm bringing earplugs if we come to it again, LOL

Sunday: The first event of Sunday was the junior women's elite competition and once again, we had a seat issue in our area, but this time, an usher came down to make sure that we had tickets for our seats (which I showed her). She told us that the GA people were supposed to be sitting in the rows behind the first two and not just anywhere in the arena. Apparently the ushers had it wrong on Saturday which is why people kept sitting in our seats that day. They sold all event tickets for the first two rows but only GA for the other rows (there were about eight or nine rows overall around the arena) so they were now checking to make sure the GA people weren't sitting in all event ticket holders' seats. I guess other people complained about this too and they FINALLY fixed the stupid problem. We really needed this type of thing to happen on Saturday, LOL  Anyway, the junior ladies event was messy at some points but REALLY good in others. We saw some outstanding bars and beam routines along with creative and fun FX routines. There was one little girl, Simone Rose, who impressed me on all of her events and could be a star in the making if things go right for her. She had a ton of personality! It was actually a close competition the entire way through and even the final results were pretty closes within the top 5-7 girls. The girl that won, Hezly Rivera, was SO good on beam and floor and also solid on the other two events (she had difficulty and elegance) and the girl in second, Jayla Hang, probably could have challenged harder for gold had she not fallen off beam (a few of the other top girls had mistakes in that last rotation which threw results out of whack). It was a very impressive competition overall though and some other names that I think are ones to watch are Kieryn Finnell, Zoey Malomo, Gabrielle Hardie, Ella Kate Parker, and Izzy Stassi. We also saw Jordyn Weiber again as she sat in our area to watch the junior ladies event but I didn't talk to her this time.

The last event was the event finals for the men's Winter Cup competition (and the event finals for juniors) where they decided all of the event winners and named the rest of the US Men's national team (event winners for the senior men were determined by the points they got from day one added to whatever they scored on day two). The biggest shock for me in this competition was that Stephen N. (our current world champ on PH) actually came OFF the PH in his routine. It was a rather messy competition overall but there were some really good moments too. The junior guys were all fun to watch and the rings guy whose family we had met the previous day ended up winning the rings title! His parents came over to say hi to us after the competition was over too which was super sweet of them (they also introduced us to their son who is a nice guy). Curran P on PB was OUTSTANDING and had my jaw dropping with his difficulty (he did a slightly harder routine on Sunday than he did on Friday). Kameron Nelson from tOSU was insanely good on FX and did two outstanding vaults as well which helped him make the national team for the first time in his career. Ian Skirkey was SO GOOD on PH on day two and ended up being the champion overall. Shane Wiskus wasn't quite as good on day two as he'd been on day one but did end up third on a couple of events. Yul didn't end up competing at all on day two (neither did Asher Hong) but they definitely brought the energy and were cheering on all of the guys the entire competition. :cheer:

OMG, I am SO sorry that this was so long but hopefully it gives you an idea of how things went over the weekend and if you have any questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to answer them for you. Overall it was really fun weekend and aside from the seat issues, the food situation, and a random detour on the way home through downtown Cincinnati that got us home late, we had a great time in Louisville. FYI, we found out that this event is going to be held in Louisville again next year (and for several more after that) but it will be held downtown in the main convention center instead of the Expo Center which should give us a lot more food options during that weekend! :cheer:

From usagym Women's program news:

Among the women, expect the field at SAP center to be see established champions like Olympic medalists Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles, World Championships silver medalist Shilese Jones, and defending U.S. champion Konnor McClain welcome back medal-winning elite gymnasts who have been competing at the collegiate level. Several past Olympic all-around champions also are currently training at the elite level and may compete in San Jose.

I know it has been confirmed that Gabby Douglas is training and Suni announced her departure from Auburn to train elite (when her health issue is resolved), but the use of the word "several" suggests more than 2. So is Simone training? She looks like she is occupied with her upcoming wedding.

Interesting! I wonder who all is going to be at the US Classic in Chicago a few weeks before Nationals....that field could be super packed with former champs and Olympians brushing up on their elite competition moves and I am SOOO excited that we might get to see a bunch of these ladies there! :cheer:

Other than Simone, Gabby and Suni, there aren’t any other active “Olympic all-around champions” at this point. Simone seems totally focused on her wedding and I’m glad for her. I really doubt she’ll try to compete for more than one or two events and probably not that.

When will they start allowing music with lyrics like they do in figure skating?
I'd also like to see the men use music in their floor exercises also.

That tiered wedding gown is gorgeous on her.
Honestly, I thought it was a terrible look, lol. She's so petite and it draws attention to it in all the wrong ways, especially since the skirt isn't fully lined and the lowest tier is sheer.

Having said that, it's their day and she looks absolutely radiant and beyond happy, and that's all that really matters.

She looked beautiful. But the dress did make me wonder if there is a baby Biles-Owen on the way, lol.

Apparently this was only the US court wedding hence the no guests and a destination wedding is happening in two weeks.

Gosh, I thought the bottom tiers perfectly balanced her larger (still tiny) top half, and the sheer bottom tier was just a bit of skin showing through in a nice way. JMO.
