Agreed aout Mamun's hoop music. And I'm not sure about Oblivion is, but Mamun's Ball music is a string arrangement of Rachmaninov's piano Elegie in Eb ;)

Kyla Ross has tweeted that she is retiring from elite gymnastics.

Dear friends,

Today, I am officially announcing my retirement from elite gymnastics.

USA Gymnastics tweeted that she plans to focus on competing for UCLA.

Wow! I did not see that coming. But good for her for being clear sighted about her chances for Rio and deciding to take care of her body and be able to move on with the next phase of her life. She has a career she can be very proud of, with an Olympic gold medal and several individual world medals. Looking forward to seeing her in NCAA.

I can't get the link to the story to open so what does she say? I was really surprised to see the announcement so I was worried she has some nagging injury that was forcing her to retire.

Best wishes to her for her future NCAA career.

:wuzrobbed I don't blame her, but :( The tide simply overtook her. She'll always be an Olympic Champion and had a really nice career.

For her entire career Marta loved her, very few US gymnasts can say that.

She's going to bring UCLA back to the forefront. :cheer2:

I'm sad; I was thinking that there really could be a place for her this year. But she knows what she wants, and she's going to go for it. I always have a lot of respect for athletes who do that. Best of luck to her and I hope she has a wonderful time at UCLA.

ETA: I also saw that Horton has a shoulder injury and will not be competing this season. That makes me sad; I always enjoy watching him even though the last few years haven't been great for him. Wish him speedy healing and best of luck in future competitions (he says he doesn't plan on retiring until after Worlds next year).

I hope Ross finds success at UCLA and that she shines in NCAA. I personally can't be sad about this decision like I was when Bross faded after her injury. I mean her accomplishments don't look too outstanding when putting her up against someone like Biles but Ross is only 19 and in her career she got the chance to be an Olympian and has an Olympic gold as well as 5 world medals. An individual gold would've been nice but Ross has more than enough to be proud of.

I was hoping she could find the upgrades on bars/beam and forget about AA, but I think the growth spurt made it hard on her. She'll be great in NCAAs.

McKayla looks like former russian gymnast (rhytmic) Alina Kabaeva

Sad about her retirement but on reality she retired after 2013 worlds

I will always remember her for the 'Not impressed' face and the perfect Amanar in the Team Finals at London 2012

Funny, I got an ESPN notification on my phone a little over an hour ago that said:

Gymnast McKayla Maroney says she is stepping away from competition but not "retiring" from the sport.

Seems to me that they had that one archived for about 3 years and accidentally sent it out. :shuffle:

I was hoping all members of the Fab Five minus Jordyn and with Simone would be the Rio team. I'm not feeling any of the "new" Americans other than Simone who I love.

Great interview with Maroney. She comes across very well and spills more than a few beans along the way. A must watch!

Yeah it was pretty amazing, the insight she gives is incredible. She'd still be competing if not for that crap abusive system, also really eye opening stuff about AOGC in particular. :shuffle: She did yurchenko double backs at camp and Marta yelled at her to stop. :respec: I think she'd be a great commentator.

Bummed gymnastics is over for her :( but she'll be unimpressed in spirit through Rio regardless. One of my favorite gymnasts of all-time and one of the best athletes the sport has ever seen.

She is a born winner. I thought she was very fair and honest. I loved her response to the life lessons question.

This had an Oprah Meets Gymnastics vibe to it :P

I never paid much attention to Maroney, so I'm surprised I found myself watching the whole thing. She came across well - likeable - and I wish her the best.

Who was the interviewer?

Thought Jessica and Gymcastic did a great job with the interview, I don't know what path Maroney will find more interest in going forward but I think she'd be a great mentor for upcoming gymnasts and probably a great coach, I hope she goes the Luikin route and gets herself more involved with USA gymnastics.
