I thought she said AA as there is a one touch warmup there.

There is also a one touch warmup in the team event, but she may not want to take the risk there.

There is no one touch warmup for event finals so she won't be doing it there.
Why are there no touch warmups for event finals? That seems strange to me.

Sheer stupidity.

So does anyone know if they plan to sell single day tickets for the Olympic trials. I have a friend who lives in St. Louis and we have talked about going Saturday and Sunday night. No way we could go Thursday and Friday

Trivia question .... when I was a kid, I remember watching something on TV where a gymnast didn't have her floor music at the event. A pianist watched the gymnast during her routine and was able to like play some random music to match her moves. I'm pretty sure I'm not imagining this, but I was a kid so I could be. I can remember the coach, gymnast, pianist sort of huddle together quickly describing her routine, and the pianist just watched her and played this random music that went along with her movements. I even remember at the end the gymnast did a little wrist flick. This had to be the 70s as I'd have no memory of anything earlier. Does that sound vaguely familiar to anyone?

Yes, it was Nancy Thies.

Akhaimova should be on team based on today. ZUBOVA as specialist or 1st alternate based on that amazing beam routine! For men, Id have Stretovich and Albyazin as specialists or alternates or whatever

I don't know how accurate this is but someone tweeted the Russian team.

Mag Team: Dalaloyan, Belyavskiy , Kartsev and Nagornyy • +2: Poliashov and Ablyazin
Wag Team: Melnikova, Listunova, Urazova and Gerasimova • +2: Akhaimova and Ilyankova

But then replied that Akaimova and Gerasimova could be switched.

I believe Poliashov qualified himself the nominative spot by winning PB at the world cup series.

RUS fed can't switch Gerasimova and Akhaimova after July 5th though. Decision needs to be final by then. If Valentina decides to put Akhaimova on the team-of-4 after podium training, then Gerasimova would need to be injured and out of the Olympics entirely.

If someone who has access could provide the highlights, that would be much appreciated! My heart goes out to her and her family for all they have been through...

Hopefully, I've got most of the key bits:
  • Becky suggests she didn't feel welcome at Lilleshall [national training centre] after speaking out about abuse.
  • She was at a hotel before the last Olympic trial in Cardiff when she received the devastating news about her brother. Her coaches came to her room at midnight to tell her. She then journeyed home to join her family.
  • Becky is baffled by the decision to exclude her from the team (and the alternate list), as she feels she "met all the criteria".
  • British Gymnastics were focused on team medals and saw Becky's specialism (on bars/beam) as a "risk".
  • Becky chose to take the opportunity for an extra trial which was offered to her and Ellie. She was not allowed to compete at her home gym or at Lilleshall. British Gymnastics failed to book her a training spot at the chosen venue (which all the other gymnastcs had at their trial).
  • She had an on-going issue over the use of different equipment at trials than at the Olympics.
  • She describes the trial as "the hardest thing [she] ever had to do" and says that coaches from the national team ignored her that she was very upset.
  • She feels that her exclusion from the team was already apparent before her trial; British Gymnastics strongly deny this.
  • She missed being able to make decisions about her brother's funeral and the chance to attend a memorial event while she was at the trial.
  • Becky says there has been a change in behavior from "certain individuals, decision makers" towards Ellie and herself since they spoke out about abuse.
  • She is not done with gymnastics and wants to show her new bars routine in competition, but worries that she may not ever be selected again.
I feel so sorry for Becky. It seems that British Gymnastics failed to show any compassion towards her (and Ellie) after the loss of their brother. I really hope she does have the chance to be selected for Worlds, so she can show her awesome bars routine to the world.

Is the British Team really a legit contender for a Team medal? I don't know all the nitty gritty details of the Teams worldwide like y'all do but isn't it pretty much a lock USA-RUS will go 1-2? Does the British Team really have a realistic shot at 3rd?

ETA: Yes, I know, anything can happen re: locks. I'm just assuming if everything goes as planned, its USA-RUS 1-2. :D

From The Balance Beam Situation blog:

At this point, the German team is looking at a peak score in the 164s and an average score around 161, which puts them below the level of the named teams for Japan and Great Britain, which are looking at peak scores in the 168s, with Japan averaging in the 166s and GB averaging in the 163s.

USA, Russia & China are the top 3, then Italy, Japan, France and GB (in no particular order) could all potentially finish 3rd. Germany, Belgium, Canada, Netherlands and Spain will be aiming to make the final.

The math of having one less specialist on the team will make the team event a bit more 'interesting' than in the past.

That dribble about being for team medals is just horseshit. Becky's bars score would have contributed heavily to the team's score. If you have a potential individual medalist you don't leave her off the team if the goal is to get a team medal. Who comes up with this nonsense? Becky's chance for an individual medal far outweighed any chance Team GB had for a team medal.
