If the cut is good, then a leotard can be just fine and stay put for a whole routine but there have been some HORRIBLE ones this year and it's ridiculous. Enough with the high cut ones!
Agree. I danced from age 4 to about 35. High cut became popular in the 70s and I resorted to ordering at least one size up to avoid wedgies or pop outs. I remember one mid 80s costume that was so ridiculous, I ordered it in large despite being a size 6 at the time. My troupe mates laughed at me, but I was the only one who could perform comfortably in that insane thing.

Saving part of ballet was the tights underneath the high cut Leo. And unitards became big. Don’t know why gymnasts can’t wear a unitard of bike/swim short length.
Yes. There's a wide range of factors as to why leotards have drifted into uncomfortable territory. As you mention they are inherited from ballet, which came with tights and originally was viewed at a distance, in a theatre.
Gymnastics itself used to be viewed from afar, and cameras didn't have the intrusive zoom and HD capabilities they do now.

When you combine the detail of modern imagery with the ever higher cuts and emphasis on extreme flexibility moves one sees today, several lines have been crossed over. Gymnasts can theoretically wear unitards and stay within the rules but teams strongly discourage it. Nekrasova rocked the look here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF4ZxgireoQ

Any sports uniform that requires the wearer to resort to intimate shaving shouldn't be standard. Unitards or shorts should be popular options. In athletics, there are so many accepted options - choice is a good thing.

I love the Dutch choreography. I hope Boorman can come back to the U.S. and take what she learned there and bring it here. We in turn can teach them how to tumble.
Omg....that would be epic. I know that she's not Simone's personal coach now, but she and her mother have been hinting that after Tokyo she might become an event specialist. Can you imagine Simone's tumbling with some actual choreography? That would be the ultimate!!

Truthfully, I'd be happy if we could get a few Dutch choreographers stateside.

YouTube recommended the 2021 male Russian championships, specifically Artur Dalaloyan's routines (thank you YouTube!). I checked the results and Nikita Nagornyy is nowhere to be found. Is he injured?

He was sick. Supposedly not with CV-19, which I hope was true, as he was in attendance at the meet.

It's Euros this week :cheer: Some great routines coming out of podium training including Iordache on beam and Naomi Visser on UB.
I'm a bit worried that there are vidoes of Jessica Gadirova and Kinsella + reports of Morgan but no sound about Jennier Gadirova. It sounds like she wasn't at PT. I really, really hope she isn't injured.

Edit: she has withdrawn :fragile:

I always cringe slightly at these "Olympic hopefuls" docuseries, because inevitably, some of them are going to end up not making the team, and will then be forced to share their reactions on camera. I know they are obviously aware of this when they sign on, but at that point they are still in the "hopeful" stage rather than the "rejected, dream dashed" stage, so they might not realize how hard it will be.

I’m super confused about the Olympics qualification process- so Larisa has to qualify as an individual athlete? Is there no chance of Romania fielding a team this year? I thought they actually placed well at the last Euros.

I think you can only qualify full teams for the Olympics at the World Championships. I believe teams had to place in the top 12 at 2019 Worlds in order to qualify a full team. Romania placed 22nd out of 24th at 2019 Worlds.

ETA:

@elka_sk8 I see that you were thinking about the Junior team that placed 4th at 2018 Euros. It seems like under the 2009-2016 rules, that junior team, who I believe enough of them, if not all of them, who would have been age-eligible by 2020 (especially with the change of rules that allow 16 year olds in 2021 to compete) could have fought for any of the final four spots at a test event before Tokyo.

However, they changed the rules for this Olympic cycle back to the 2007 and prior rules, and teams HAD to qualify at the 2019 World Championships (and to qualify for 2019 Worlds, they had to qualify at 2018 Worlds, unless I'm wrong about that). This plus the fact that 15 year olds who were going to be age-eligible by 2020 no longer being allowed to compete at the pre-Olympic Worlds (a holdover rule from when they changed the process to have the final four team slots be selected at a test event post-2008 Olympics) really screwed up the Romanian team. Relying on the seniors and only the seniors and not the juniors who would have been eligible at 2020 but still too young in 2019, Romania placed 22nd out of 24 teams.

Jessica Gadirova, the least strong gymnast of the twins, is currently leading on two pieces at euros :cheer: not bad at all! She's booted Alice Kinsella out of the AA.
Good to see some oldies like Pihan-Kuleza and Ferrari making EFs so far.

Larisa fell on beam in her first rotation and took a .3 out of bounds deduction on FX, but appears to have made it with ~.3 to spare.

This is based on people tweeting what they heard the announcer said her score was in the final rotation, and that she's ahead of the person she needed to outscore in the standings.
