I wish Gracie the best.

One way to shut him up is to ignore him. Don't give him the satisfaction of quoting him. He reads FSU and probably has to have a private moment every time someone quotes something he said. And Dave is still at it - here's a quote from TSL on Facebook:
"Athletes can't say they are withdrawing from everything due to sponsors. This means she is out for the year."
OK, I realize the chances of her doing the GP in her current state are pretty small, but I wish that little piece of crap would shut the hell up. He doesn't really know what's going on but he still has to be the one who tells everyone what he doesn't know. TSL has been a worthless ego trip gossip site since Jenny departed.
Does anyone know if what he says is accurate. I would not be surprised if it was true. Contracts have all kinds of performances clauses. That is why there is a contract. It outlines that X will pay Y for doing A, B, C."Athletes can't say they are withdrawing from everything due to sponsors. This means she is out for the year."
"My passion for skating and training remains strong. However, after recent struggles on and off the ice, I realize I need to seek some professional help and will be taking some time off while preparing for my Grand Prix assignments," Gold, 22, said in a statement to Us Weekly on Friday, September 1. "This time will help me become a stronger person, which I believe will be reflected in my skating performances as well."
The 22-year-old will no longer compete in the Japan Open in October as scheduled, while the Grand Prix events she referenced in her statement are both slated for November. Her decision comes after she’s already begun promoting the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
It's code for "it's none of our business" until or unless she chooses to elaborate at a future date.I'm confused. "Professional help" is a code word for what exactly?
Giving some credence to what Dave said.

I don't know much about Gold's situation and the article didn't really change that, but speaking more generally, I really wish there was a way to bring the skating world into (at least what I think should be) the 21st century.
I know each skater's situation is complicated, but there seem to be way too many coaches who are creating toxic environments--for reasons related to mental health in some cases, sexual boundaries in some cases, eating issues in some cases, etc.--particularly for female skaters.
Frank Carroll may not be one of those coaches, but I do hope the increasing publicity of stories like this can encourage changes in skating that are conducive to skaters being healthier and happier.

Why is he doing this?
Why does he have a horse in this race?
For sure. He craves attention. One positive outcome of his latest attacks on Gracie is that it is unlikely he will be getting many skater interviews going forward.
Whether Frank Carroll is one of those coaches or not, he doesn't seem to shy away from journalists when they come looking for the inside scoop on one of his former students. Does anyone else remember how he used to talk about Christopher Bowman back in the day?
Frustrated at not being able to help Bowman, Carroll decided to cut off all contact with the skater. "I felt that I needed to use a tough love approach, that if I didn't help him, didn't enable him, that it was a statement that you have to stop doing drugs if you want me in your life," says Carroll.
Despite the rebuffs, Bowman continued to email his coach, imploring him at one point just about six months ago, "Come on, Frank, give in." And then the news of his death broke.
Carroll thinks about the times he tolerated Bowman's erratic behavior, visiting the then teen-age athlete at the treatment center, bringing him clothes, and the years of struggle after. Says Carroll: "It's such a helpless feeling, when everything you think you've done has done nothing in the long run."
Because getting dirt and slagging off anyone he can, while pretending to be a fan of the sport, has always been his MO.Why is he doing this?
Why does he have a horse in this race?
I don't follow Dave on facebook or TSL but those who do and see this kind of misinformation and criticism can write to USFS and see what can be done. This is very hurtful to the US's best skaters, whatever their current standings or struggles.I just went off on Dave on Facebook because he of course had to post an article about Gracie's dad and insist this was part of her problem.
I'm a physician and medical educator. I rely on evidence for my work. And while he may be right, he has no evidence to prove any of what he's blathering about. And this isn't about Gracie, it's about him being the center of attention. I hope skaters tell him to F off when he asks for interviews in the future.
I'm not a Gracie fan, and I've watched maybe 2 TSL interviews in my lifetime, but he's pissing me off. I hope USFS yanks his credentials or he gets his nasty little ass kicked out of the skating world otherwise. No skater deserves this crap from a skanky little celebrity wannabe.
I just wish she had gotten this help earlier.

And the day I think Dave Lease deserves credit for anything is the day Alena Leonova wins an Olympic gold medal.
