Glamour Puss thread: Sephora, I wish I could quit you...

Hair apt on Wed - going to go heavier on the burgundy (kept it light for the summer) and throwing a few hits of copper into the mix as well. I bought a new lipstick - Loreal "Mica" which is mostly plum, but it has a bits of coppery undertones, so I need to match my hair to it now. :shuffle: Will be keeping the same shaggy messy style tho. :D

Hair didn’t turn out quite right, not horrible, but not the look I was after, but that is what happens when you ask for three different colors - no worries, I can cope until my next appt in 4 weeks. :shuffle:
So to console myself I went to Shoppers Drug Mart and took advantage of 20% off seniors discount Thursday - got Pixi Retinol Toner, Pixi Glow Tonic to Go exfoliating pads, and the Pixi Mesmerizing Mineral eyeshadow palette in “Plum Quartz”. :glamor:

I have had so much reading this thread in the past. My health hasn’t been stellar over the last few months, so I’ve been online beauty shopping for the perfect corrector / concealer/ eyelid primer / face primer to give life to my paler than usual complexion and dark circles.

I bought the Sephora pink corrector for under my eyes, but the Clinique concealer was useless and although I like the texture of the Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer, but don’t see it as so much better than my Maybelline Agent Rewind one that it’s worth the extra $. I live in Canada so the Tarte tape is out as an option for now.

I really like the Pretty Vulgar eye primer and the Urban Decay primer I wear over my sunscreen (also tried Too Faced Hangover and Smashbox primer moisturizer), but I’d like to wear foundation as it gets colder. I looked at the Smashbox SPF foundation/cc Cream options and wasn’t impressed by the coverage or the texture for my ageing skin (40s).

I have never tried Bobbi Brown products, but I know she does spf primers and, ideally, I would replace my sunscreen + primer + powder routine to SPF primer + SPF foundation + powder but it would mean a > CA$100 face so it better make me look good.

What do you wear in harsh cold weather that gives you medium coverage and protects your skin?

@Desperado I find that an spf moisturizer + Dior Star foundation works for New England weather. The only downside to the Dior Star is that it only lasts 8 hours. If I’m going out in the evening, I have to reapply.

I'm on my 40s and I like the IT cosmetics CC cream for colder weather. It has an SPF of 50 (I think) and feels nice on the skin.

The upcoming Holiday beauty 2018 releases are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo nice this year.

I've been drooling over Bite Beauty, Drunk Elephant, NARS, MILK, and now I see Natasha Denona released a new mini eyeshadow palette and Hourglass is releasing a new Edit Palette.

I can't buy all of it unfortunately. What's a gal to do?:drama::fragile:

My green faded out of my hair, and I don't know what I want. In the past year I had purple, pink, blue/teal, green. I am considering red/orange/yellow gradient thing, but its so much work? Maybe I should go orange for fall? Or just green again, I loved that.

I think my husband secretly wants my hair to be its natural color, but right now the ends (the parts that were bleached) are like a strange faint green. I am not bleaching my hair ever again, though.

and I need to check out those holiday releases!

I currently have copper and plum/burgundy and light golden blonde - its very Autumn! My paleness doesn't seem any paler....:shuffle:

When I was in my 20s I died my hair a deep mahogany.

I loved it, but it made me look sick all the time and I was piling on the makeup to compensate.

So I only did that once.

I am assuming mulled wine would be the same.

I did see mulled wine and blond lowlights mixed together on a lady on pinterest and it looked lovely.

Probably a better option for me if I was to go down that road again.

I love dark hair, I just can't pull it off well.

I just ordered the Natasha Denona mini-eyeshadow palette and a Fenty beauty lipgloss from Sephora.

I couldn't resist. :shuffle: :cheer2:

I have been MIA from this thread for a while, my apologies!!!

I dyed my naturally dark blonde hair darker this summer. I have a LOT of gray (well, almost white) hair already, so I am going to play around with dark hair for a while until nature makes me go back to blonde since the grays are easier to make lighter vs. darker.

I went dark golden blonde in the spring and in May, I jumped into medium reddish brown. I played around with that until I got to dark auburn last weekend. I am a bit shocked at how much the red color washes out each time I shampoo it! I knew that red was one of those colors that fades quickly, but this is even more quickly than I anticipated.

My hair is a bit too dark at this point, which is partly my fault for dyeing it a lot over the last few months. I have only used "medium brown" and auburn shades, but the color ends up darker, which can always be a danger with hair dye.

I know I will have to bleach it a bit to lift the color back to medium reddish brown (I have learned a lot about lightening hair in the last few weeks.) I have only gotten my hair highlighted professionally once before, but this time I am promising myself that I will leave the lightening/bleaching to the professionals and won't try to do it at home. I don't want to end up with orange straw for hair!!!

I do enjoy having dark hair--I have never had it before, I was naturally blonde as a kid and started dyeing it as soon as it started getting darker when I was 17/18. The only person who doesn't like my dark hair is my 9 year old niece, but what does she know? ;)

Hoping some of the regulars here will be able to help me figure this out.

I have a couple of perfumes (eau de cologne form) that I really like wearing. But they are in spray bottles, and I am finding that even with a very light touch on the spray button, the amount of scent that comes out is too much. I don't want to be that person on the bus with a cloud of smell following them around.

So I would like to put the perfume itself into a non-spray empty glass bottle, preferably like a dauber, or even a glass bottle with a syringe. But I am having a hard time finding empties of either kind. When I look on Amazon for refillable perfume bottles, most of what I see is mini-spray bottles. Does anyone know where I could buy what I'm looking for? Thanks!

Could you just spray a folded kleenex and then dab it on?
Then the excess is on the kleenex and not you and your garbage can will smell pretty!

Has anyone tried Dr Jart Cicapair? I follow a girl on Insta who raves about it for evening her skin tone, but when I tried a sample it seemed drying (normal/oily skin) and more like makeup than skincare. I used a makeup wipe 5 hours after putting it on, and it came off beige like a BB cream. Thoughts?

I like these little roller ball bottles. You can really control how much perfume you use.

I hadn't even thought of roller ball bottles, but thanks! This is an excellent idea.

And that will work too! FSU = answer to everything :COP:

@overedge You can also do what my Mom does: spray perfume once in the air in front of you and walk through it. You get fragrance all over but not overwhelming at all.

Lol...I tried that once but forgot to close my mouth! Perfume tastes HORRIBLE!

oh no! ? Ok, rules if one will attempt this:
1. keep mouth closed
2. keep eyes closed

ETA- I’ve accidentally kept my mouth open too and I agree, perfume tastes horrible!

I keep a container of cotton balls just for this purpose. Spray the perfume onto the cotton ball, dab a little here and there, then toss it in my underwear drawer.

re rollerballs - I see that they are popular but I've always been concerned that the perfume will be compromised by contact with skin. Used to read that in magazines - warning not to use the stopper in old perfume bottles as the oils on your skin go back into the perfume.

I really like IT mascara.

I really like IT mascara.

This is timely. I need new mascara. Dior used to be my holy grail, but I’ve been meh about it. I like Marc Jacobs but it smudges too much. I have allergy issues so I touch my eyes more than I should so the less smudging the better.

Actually, my fave mascara is Sephora, Outrageous Curl but IT is pretty good, too.

My eyes are sensitive and watery and I need to change my mascara every 4-5 weeks so I always use waterproof drugstore options.

L'Oreal Lash Paradise is excellent and compares to Too Faced Better than Sex mascara except even better because it doesn't flake like the Too Faced.

My holy grail is Maybelline The Rocket waterproof. It gives mega volume, doesn't budge on my eyes and I can usually pick it up for less than $6 at Walmart. :cheer2:

I have watery eyes too and need eye makeup that stays in place - just bought a Rimmel Exaggerate eyeliner because it had the built-in smudger tip, (and smudging is a must!) and the liner ends up on my upper eyelid. :drama:
And speaking of perfume - I need something new, my go-to is Alfred Sung, Jewel in the warm months, and Sung in the cooler months. I like sandalwood, sweetgrass, light florals. Suggestions? (nothing too sophisticated, of course :shuffle:)

Tarte Lights, camera, lashes works for me

I have long eyelashes which Isn't necessarily the blessing it might seem. I like Sephora Outrageous Curl the best because it has a small wand which makes it more easy to apply & control the amount of mascara I get on my lashes. Also, it is a slightly more dry mascara which I prefer.

IT & Essence mascara are both wet mascara so I have to be really cautious putting them on.

I always use Maybelline clear mascara, lowers & uppers, (first) and let that dry then put the other mascara on top of that. I think this helps prevents flaking.

I just wish there were more mascaras that came in brown. Black mascara can be really harsh.

I have long lashes, too. Black mascara can look over the top. And I have issues with it constantly smudging under my eyes. Someday, I'll find a mascara that doesn't do that. Don't suggest. I'm sure I've tried whatever you are going to suggest. I've tried a million...low end, high end, in-between. So mostly, I just don't bother.

I have long lashes too. They often hit off the inside of the lens of my sunglasses.

I'm so glad I found Maybelline the Rocket mascara (waterproof) because it doesn't smudge on me at all, looks great and it is cheap.

If they ever discontinue it, I will buy a crate full. Lol!
