What a change in Russia’s Pairs situation! Remember when, not so long ago, Russia’s top pair included a Japanese national (who later obtained Russian citizenship...and changed her name to sound more Slavic)?
I don't know which Slavic language do you speak, but to me, as a Russian speaker Kawaguti and Kawaguchi sound equally not Slavic.
If you need to kick the Russian pairs of several years ago you could make a point of a Japanese and an Ukrainan skater representing it. That would be correct and you would not sound like a moron.

I assume Polina Kostiukovich is having tryouts. She posted an instastory of her smiling with a busted lip and broken teeth. :yikes:
Wow, I would never imagine that having a tryout includes risking her life. WTF did the coaches do to keep her safe? Surely the tryout was supervised by someone? Or did they let anyone trying to lift her, without making sure that the male skater knows what he is doing?

Re: Mishina/Gallyiamov's coach change.
Arthur Minchuk: “There are no specifics yet who (which coach) will work with Mishina and Gallyamov (in our group). It is the trial/testing period during which everything will be decided ”

Bobrova sums up the season for sport-express
  • Sinitsina/Katsalapov are lucky the Worlds did not happen - should both teams skated clean we can only guess what would have happened. The way the season ended SinKat are the European champions and that's it. Sin Kat deserved their win at the Europeans because the French did not skate clean.
  • She does not believe the Worlds 2020 will happen - skating twice the same programme would be too weird, skating two different programmes within 2 months would be even weirder.
  • The skaters and especially ice dancers are missing the crucial time now - after the Worlds they are working on the gliding, new lifts etc and that's the time that will be missed
  • Trusova/Scherbakova/Kostornaya - it's easier to be on top when they are 3 together - one of them will certainly win than have just one
  • She was offered to become a technical specialist, but she knows too much about the inside of the dance and she does not want to be any part of it. She would have to listen to the others and not do what she thinks is right. She would also take things too personally - she can't judge.
  • In the show she got to skate with different partners, including one who was able to do any lift with any partner, she just had to jump and he would do the rest.
  • She and Deputat have a skating school, Bobrova is not there all the time. Right now the school is closed down, like all the rinks in Russia
  • Morozov choreographs at night when there is enough ice time and no one bothers.
  • The difference between the Russian school and the NA school - the Russians skate to win. The NA skate to enjoy. If they decide to stop skating it will be their choice. The Russian kid would be dragged to the rink with the shouts see how much we invested! The 2y.o. kids are dragged to the rink because at the age of 15 you must win the Olympics. Even the coaches tell them to have fun rather than good luck. Bobrova can see that Liu enjoys the skating and it's great. On the other hand the field in Russia is so deep that if a girl makes a mistake she will be overtaken by many others.
  • She was in a show with Samodurova who learned there a 3A - Maksim Marinin was helping her with the jump.
  • Junior worlds - Bobrova liked the Georgian's better. The skating, the elements, the dance itself was better. The Americans skating still like juniors (the SD). The Georgians look seniors.
  • Bobrova bows to Hanyu for being able to do the spins with the music, on the other hand she does not like the programmes repeating.
  • She likes where Chen is aiming to.
  • When bringing back the old programmes - which happened to BobSol at the Olympics - she thinks it was the right thing for them to bring the old programme back. She does not think it helped them, but it was a right thing. It happened that they would do the OD and by the nationals they overgrew the programme and by the Europeans had a new programme.
  • Bobrova luuurved Chock/Bates FD.
  • The programmes she loved this season: Chock/Bates FD, Stepanova/Bukin FD - she thought it would be hard to overcome their last year's FD, but they did, SinKat's SD. She can't ever recall what Hubell/Donohue were skating this year, even though she watched the GPF, Euros and 4CC. Papadakis/Cizeron are the only team who could pull such a programme, they are the only ones who could do it. She didn't like it though. She liked a lot Tarasova/Morozov's SP and Kostornaya's LP. She loved Medvedeva's LP, she thinks Medvedeva did not yet skate all this programme has to offer. She doubts it's a good idea to leave that programme for another season.

Who are these skaters (in English please). I am in love with them
it is Evelyna Pokrasnetieva (9) and Ilia Makarov n(11) in Ice Age Kids 1st edition. They train in Moscow, by Elena Zhuk. The programme you linked is by Averbuch. They came in 3rd with this performance. They i think participated in both seasons 1 and 2. They last officially participated in a competition in 2019 Mentor Torun Cup. I have not heard of them since..... but here is a youtube link to their competition skates in 2019.

here they are a year later in the same show 2nd season skating to Fellini's "8-1/2"

Tarasova, who is considered the "boss" of this show and the "final judgement", was not that taken by this team. She praised what was good, but with much less enthusiasm than the energy she put into critique of what was not right. It was obvious from their first skate in Season 1, that Tarasova will not be their cheer-leader...

If anyone is interested in Russian junior pairs, someone on Russian forum said that Yalin now skates with Valerie Ponosova. I have never heard of her. From the remark someone else made, she is probably not very good. She had been doing pairs with someone else before, but didn’t even do Russian cups, so they couldn’t be that great.

Someone also wrote that Kostiukovich now skates with Briukhanov (ex partner of Vislobokova), but someone else said that he heard that Chistiakova is skating with Briukhanov and everything has been working well, so not sure which of those is true. (Oe of those could have been a try out that didn’t work out).

As much as I like both, I totally cannot see their styles to match.
Briukhanov has such classics lines and looks. This does not work with Kostiukovich at all imho.

All theoretical talk. I just wait for some confirmation of new pairings and first clips to judge.

Polina is a tiny biker chick. Missing tooth and all. She needs a worthy partner.
Well, at least Briukhanov is not useless. She has a chance, if she stabilises her jumps. Poor Ialin, if the news from the other forum are correct, his partnership may not be that great.

Last thing I heard (and actually saw) was that Briukhanov was skating with Chistiakova, but that was last month and things could have changed again already, who knows. ;) We'll have to wait and see what the new pairings are after the dust of the splits has settled down. The skaters might have different try-outs before they form a new team.
