Tatiana Tarasova's commentary on Eteri Tutberidze as a coach (March 2019)

Tarasova said that Tutberidze works amazingly with young people. “For example, I am her fan, because she moves the world, you know? She has a globe on her finger - and she twists it right like that, ”she said.

According to the trainer, the young age of the champions is not a problem for figure skating, but the ability to improve the sport faster.
--
After the Russian Junior Figure Skating Championship, Tarasova called the winner, 14-year-old ward Tutberidze Alexandra Trusova, terrific. She noted that she had not met such phenomena.

---

Tarasova called the skating of the winner of the women's competitions - 14-year-old Alexandra Trusova - amazing. “I have not seen such skating yet, it is phenomenal. When she skates like this, it’s impossible to beat her, ”she said. The coach congratulated the team of Eteri Tutberidze with a full podium in the women's single skating. Tarasova noted the short program of the silver medalist Alena Kostornaya, considering her “angelic”.

"... Why can't we all get along, people?"
:) Yes, something like that. He says: "comrades".

:) I guess Yagudin is so careless, that he can like a post before reading it and post his own message before realizing what he has written.
When he was asked whether he prefered Medvedeva or Zagitova, he answered: "Tutberidze" (both girls were Tutberidze's students back then). And now he doesn't say anything bad about Tutberidze's group. So maybe he'd like to support them, but he forgets to read a text he likes.

I'm OK with that. Maybe I just know, that being too careful isn't a better way to live: as for me, I can keep making plans year by year - without starting doing something.
He acts quickly. Often it is better than doing nothing.

I was struck by TAT's comment in the fs-gossips translation: "Hope is a good breakfast but a bad supper". Is this a TAT original or a common saying in Russian? It was an interesting way to comment on the question of whether or not Zagitova will return to competition ...

Add that to ‘playing ping pong with balls of chocolate jam’

Why is hope ok in the morning but bad in the evening? I am confused!

I don't remember such a saying. I remember this one:
"Hope is the last to die."
It means we keep hoping till the very end. And also that we SHOULD hope till the very end. Shouldn't give up. This saying is very popular.

Yet I do understand this one: "Hope is a good breakfast but a bad supper". Some people say, that hoping and waiting for something isn't the best way to reach the result. That's why hope can be bad. As for morning... well, maybe because games, dreams and hopes are a normal activity for children - in the morning of their lives. In the "evening" it is better to have something more than just hopes and dreams. In the beginning hope is nice, later it is not so nice.

I'd say it is a weird way to comment on the question of whether or not Zagitova will return to competition (even though I didn't see the text).

Oy...... we're going into "linguistics and quotes".
There is a phrase "Науки юношей питают, Отраду старым подают".
"The science feeds the minds of young, and it gives the joy to elders"

This phrase has been played with, and changed to:
"A hope feeds the young ones, and it gives the joy to elders"

Tarasova said "Вернется Алина или нет – глупый вопрос, надежды юношей питают".
"Will Alina come back or not - is a stupid question, hope feeds the young ones..

I have no idea why fs-gossip translated the way they did.

As to TAT's view on Alina's situation, let me say this. Had Eteri called TAT and invited her to Khrystalniy at least once, or better if she called and said "you're so great, come and give Alina a few points on skating" or even better if she invited Tarasova to help Alina with her shows after taking a pose, then Tarasova would be RAVING HOW GREAT ALINA, HOW SMART SHE IS, AND WHAT GREAT FUTURE SHE HAS.

Tarasova has a tactic, she attacks a skater/a coach lightly, as a warning "be nice to me, or i will go further" in hope that she'll scare them and have them come and bow to her. It's her standard intimidation technique, a form of "dedovchina".

Or, she sees opportunity, gives advance praising and support, then approaches a skater/a coach with various direct and indirect offers, or waits to be "invited" and if they don't respond, she goes after them.

In Spring 2019, when Alina won worlds, and ET's junior girls won most medals, she started praising them, in hope to get "invited for something". She was not, so she is pissed off.

Now she has to go back to her original project, which she was ready to give up on, to pull Medvedeva's strings, so she can get something "from being around her".

When Tarasova was "in the loop" with Buianova's camp, CSKA, she promoted "everything CSKA" and pulled away skaters from other coaches to come to CSKA - Sotskova, Radionova, Kovtun, Tsurskaya, others. All other "camps" were enemies, and she acted against them (skaters and coaches). Eteri because of her success in Ladies, was #1 enemy (plus history of issues with Buianova and TAT was supposedly Buianova's friend).

The only exception for TAT's support, that was not CSKA club, was Konstantinova, but that's another story.

Now Buianova is out of the picture, CSKA squandered all their top skaters, Sot, Rad, Kov, Tsur are not competing or in the top. Tarasova has nothing to gain from CSKA. She is looking for a new camp to park herself at. Eteri did not invite or acknowledged her - Tarasova is lashing out. (there is more to the puzzle, Averbuch, shows, etc.)

end of story... :D

Thanks Tinami. I wondered if it was an accurate translation. No further comment on linguistics from me :D

Gutless wonder. Grown man afraid of an old wailing woman. LOL.
I dunno. I think he truly loves and respects TAT. Yags also strikes me as dumb enough to like a post without reading it, so who knows how this drama unfolded. Sometimes I wonder how Totmianina tolerates the clown.

I initially thought the Team Tutberidze instagram message was fake. It was too rude to be real. But Eteri's puppy mill of champions makes her invincible. I am glad Plushenko responded. His words are very biting towards Tutberidze the person. Having observed her interaction with the skaters on many occasions, I do not have one good word to say about her.
You know, Plushenko won't win any personality contests either. His post-competitive career and adventures in show biz have raised many eyebrows.

My silent reaction was "they deserve each other." Buyonova sounds like another nasty diva, and after the revelations about Hamada I'm wondering if there are any nice coaches out there other than Kori Ade, who probably is just a good actress and keeps whips and chains in her basement.

Heh, the cat fight continues. Pluschenko in his instagram. Seriously, I couldn't come up with that even if I tried.

`So Eteri, don't poke the bear... Your pupil, an amazing skater and an athlete Alina Zagitova decided to stop competing. For a while or for good - we don't know yet. She is a grown up who made a grown up decision. For your, as you called it, `coaching team' it is, of course, a loss. I assume you are upset and it's understandable - as a person, as a professional and as a business woman. I realize Alina for you- as a sports manager (after all you don't insist all the professional coaches called you a coach, because it's Dudakov who does all the technical work) was a source of an income.
Me, not quite an outsider for the sports and especially figure skating (I sincerely hope you will not question this obvious fact) was asked by the journalists to comment this sensation. Of course I did. Knowing and following Alina for a long time I voiced some points, which came from my professional conclusions. As a person who is not much into an evil sarcasm or hurting people I think I was quite polite in my points of view, guesses and words. More than that, I don't tend to be rude to women. But I was more than shocked by your reaction, because it was nothing but rude.
It is unforgivable, even while understanding how upset you and your `team' are by losing not only talented, but very paying off project.
But since you opened the can of worms, here we go: I never tried to offer Alina switching schools to me, nor anyone else, especially not by `putting you down in her eyes'. I understand it's easy interpolating someone's deeds by thinking what would you do. But seriously, Eteri!... had I wanted to lure a skater to my team, believe me, my experience, authority and resources would be enough for a whole `Pluschenko team' with nice salaries, sponsors and contracts, but yet now the only team exists is `Tutberidze team'. You sure you haven't mixed things up?
I don't know what are the reasons (perhaps lack of attention, lack of empathy - the athletes are humans after all and sometimes need to be treated like such, not as a result -giving machines), but Alina several times asked for my advice during the shows in Japan. Being respectful to others' contracts I had no plans mending. It only depended on her. I gave her some professional advice when she thought she hit the dead end, including - learn the quads. It's weird the whole coaching team did not understand the trends of the sports.
That was all my mystical `luring'. As for the actual luring, indeed, a lot of kids are switching from your school to mine. By their free will. Why? You can't guess? May be because `I never raised a single skater' as you wrote? Thank you really for your advice `to come to the practices from time to time'. For you, as a manager who lives off their skaters it might be a painful thing, but let me assure you: I coach almost every day and if you would like to take a look - welcome. I wouldn't mind teaching you, sharing the experience...
And of course, dear Eteri, no level of frustration can excuse your obvious rudeness towards TAT, the genious and a great coach. All her decisions, points of view and even critique one should not only listen, but be grateful, because it's a critique of the smartest and the most knowledgeable professional which is always for the best. Of course, if you are capable of listening, and not just frown.
As for you, I wish you well and health. Sincerely, not being kicked to.
p.s. please remind me, who is the skater you raised from the scratch? Was it Trusova? Or Valieva, Kostornaya or Scherbakova? Perhaps the Olympic champions Lipnitskaya or Zagitova? We all know `team Tutberidze' only accepts the kids with the good tripple jumps to make their lives easier. No one compares to you in luring the skaters. It's a secret that everyone knows, talks about and is afraid to voice. I wanted to whisper that in your year, but you decided to go public
Always yours, Evgeni Pluschenko.

And of course there was this priceless intro to the post that's too off-color to translate:

Воскресенье.Утро.Хотел выспаться,а тут поток звонков от журналистов ! Говорят “Тутберидзе-Тим»пост про Вас и Татьяну Анатольевну Тарасову пост написали )Не позвонили,не поговорили,если есть вопросы или претензии,а сразу пост накатали , ну что делать,тогда отвечу,не обтекать же как обо......ный олень !) Листайте карусель

"Sunday morning...I wanted to sleep in but a wave of press calls came in. They say, TeamTutberidze posted a commentary about you and TAT. They didn't call, they didn't talk about their questions or complaints, they went directly to Instagram. Oh well. If that's what they chose, I have to respond - I'm not going to stand there and let this drip off my back, like some weak idiot who's been shat on/pissed on. Click through the photos!"

- it's hard to tell what he meant with "обо......ный", as both #1 and #2 would work. I included both options for the sake of accuracy.

олень in this context of the Russian contemporary lingo means a person who lets others mistreat and take advantage of him. Ex. your wife cheated on you, left you, took the kid and all your money and you let it happen? You're an олень. (literally, "a deer".) Don't ask.

Ouch!!!

Poor woman. I forgot about her and their two girls. Maybe she just uses the ignore button liberally.

"The clown"? :) Totmianina says it with a smile: "this clown appeared in my life". After these words she is asked: "Aren't you afraid to offend him?" She says: "He won't take offence. He never does. He doesn't know how to do it. And I'm happy, that now he teaches me not to take offence." I think Totmianina is beautiful now, because she is happy now. And their daughters are used to smile. He is an optimist: he believes everything is all right, even when something bad happens. So he's happy not because he is just lucky, but because he is used to overcome troubles. I think being happy is work, I think he is good at doing this work.

I would be slightly afraid if Tarasova were screaming at me too.
Yagudin almost laughs, when Tarasova shouts at him. I do like it.
He is a friendly creature, actually. Tarasova tried to beat him, but he tells that story with a smile.

Tarasova, with all her "faults" and evil methods is hardly a "babushka". She keeps her self in great form for a woman her age.

Babushka

Tarasova

There maybe not much difference in spirit and class, but at least do note the $15K dollar coat and a hair cut.

I'm so :watch: about all this, especially since there's no way in hell to blame Western skaters, coaches, media, skating officials or fans for any of it!

No, this is that kind of situation where you can't blame "influences from outside". It's all about the "culture of these people" and how they were raised.

These types of confrontations/squabbles were a "norm" in many environments, work, schools, and particularly in residential communal apartments, where people/families all lived in one space and had to share hall-ways, toilets and kitchens. It was ugly, and the "style" transferred to next generations.

It even has a name "ссора в комуналке" - "communal quarters squabble". People did not only insult each other, gossiped, started rumors, formed coalitions, but got into fights, poisoned each others' cooking, set stuff on fire, killed pets, etc.. It can get worst in the areas where people have their summer cottages (dachas), fights over fence lines, fruits falling into other's yard, etc... :D. Consequences of "socialism".

It's been turned into jokes, mems, comedy routines, and now videos of real life..
