Alina is a worthy champion. But this is Michelle and Tara all over again, and I can't take it.

Dumped? Seriously? There was a 1 point difference between them! Med left points on the ice. She could have won if she hadn't.I suppose the artist always loses to the jumping bean
Poor Evgenia. To decimate the competition for over two seasons (half a quad!) and then to loose on the very last hurdle. I really thought being the 2x world champion would negate it but her absence from the GPF really killed her. Judges dumped her and jumped on the Alina wagon without second thought
She should be proud after fighting back after injury, so close to the Olympics, but it likely won't make it hurt any less![]()
wowI wanted to finish the Olympic Games and leave it all behind me. I cannot change anything. It's pointless. There is a long life ahead of me, and I plan to skate for a long time. I adore skating, I'm not going to quit.
My parents alwas told me: you skate, but any other profession is not any less difficult. So you have to give all your best, and that's what I do. I am thankful to my choreographers, coaches, doctors, just for this opportunity to be on the ice and show the results of our work. We are all united by our love for skating.
There is a new generation of skaters in our group. I don't know what will happen in a couple of years. I was in the same situation. But that's the way it is. It happens with every generation. Yes, we are different, but it is the driving force for the evolution, and what makes us different is not for us to judge.
As I understood, both Evgenia and Alina said that they are going to Worlds. On to Worlds, girls! Although, I wouldn't be surprised if Zagitova skips it if she has a lot of other time commitments. (I kind of hope one of the 3 does so Konstantinova will go and thereby free up a spot in junior worlds for Gubanova). I do hope it's a choice by one of them and not the Fed making the decision like I fear they might do for Sotskova. I wouldn't want that to happen.
I suspect that will depend on what other time commitments they have between now and then that they don't know about right now. It's a selfish hope that one of the 3 opts out just to clear a possible path for Gubanova to junior worlds. A complicated path, but a possible one.As I understood, both Evgenia and Alina said that they are going to Worlds.
Even if one of the three decided not to go to worlds and Konstantinova is sent instead, that doesn’t mean that it cleared up a spot at junior worlds. Skaters sometimes do both junior and senior worlds and I can’t imagine that Konstantinova would willingly pass on the chance of doing both. After all, she has both junior and senior version of her programs, so no reason skipping one of those.I suspect that will depend on what other time commitments they have between now and then that they don't know about right now. Evgenia Medvedeva: https://www.championat.com/olympicw...henschiny-medvedeva-rasskazala-o-serebre.html
I was taught to always judge the situation coolly. I always analyze what went wrong, what I could have done better. So today I did not feel much pressure. I had a goal to skate well in the free program, and I achieved it.
We are all human. There were many thoughts in my head, but I stopped to try and understand what I want from the Olympics. I realized that I want to finish without regrets. I did everything.
I was suprised by the audience support at the team event, and here it was even louder. It felt as if everyone was cheering for us and everybody in the audience spoke Russian. I heard many people screaming "Zhenya! Zhenya!" And while usually it is distracting, here it made me smile, and it's very hard to make me smile when I go out on the ice.

I did not feel any pressure. I was completely calm. The main goal was to leave the ice without regrets. I was like a flying bird, and it felt good.
There are many people who inspire me, like Carolina Kostner. I cannot imagine how hard it must be for her! But I look at her and I realize, if she can do it, there is nothing impossible. If there is something that you like to do, you get yourself together and do it. Like Carolina Kostner.
(about not hearing the anthem) It's an interesting question, I have to think. I always say that no matter the circumstances, people know who we are. The audience today proved it.
As I understood, both Evgenia and Alina said that they are going to Worlds.
The old g/g beat v/v but who then are beaten by v/v at worlds!!I would like a different result that time. Hopefully everyone will skate well and there won't be any let downs after the Olympics.
So many examples! The Urmanov example too!Valova/Vasiliev lost 1984 worlds to Underhill/Martini (who were 7th at the Olympics)
Firstly, we don’t know whether Kihira will be landing 3A on a regular basis. None of the ladies who had 3A in the past was able to keep it stable for a long term. There were periods when it worked and periods when it didn’t. Tuktamysheva ‘s triple axel lasted only one season. Mao’s lasted longer but it was constantly on and off.It will be hard for Zhenya to win if Alina is clean again, unless she upgrades the tech content, although there is limited time.
And next year it will be really hard again with Rika Kihira landing 3A on a regular basis.
Yes, but the idea is that she should upgrade the tech content and not to expect that the competitors with higher BV will fail.Firstly, we don’t know whether Kihira will be landing 3A on a regular basis. Secondly, saying it will be hard - well, this season was hard too. That’s the nature of skating competitions. And new talents are getting eligible, and some of the established ones start struggling ...

And, IMHO, she became complacent in regard to competition. None of us who watched 2016 Russian nationals are surprised that Zagitova was on the O team, except we focused on the fact she was going to knock out Rad, Tuk, or Pogo (which happened along with help from Sotskova). Zagitova has steadily improved all season and knew she needed every point. I think the coaching team also took Med's win for granted. They knew better after Europeans. I suspect the focus between now and Worlds will be where they can maximize those points. Now, what I don't think will happen is both of them making the Beijing team. Maybe one, maybe neither of them. It's actually astonishing how many Euro (Russia will own Europeans for a very long time), World, GP, GPF, junior world, junior GPF medals they've racked up over the last 4 years. And most of those seniors didn't make it out of Russian nationals after winning because there were better skaters behind them. They really do have to treat every major competition as if it's your last because it could be.She can move her jumps in the FS back. I'm guessing she abandoned the strategy of fully backloading at the start of the season when she first tried it because of her foot injury, but I'm sure when healthy she would be fully capable of doing it - at Euros the 3f-3t was in the 2nd half with great GOE. Plus if she can tidy up the lutz edge she could replace the loop with it in the SP. She's didn't get even a ! on it this week, maybe an easy panel but doing that would get her an extra 0.5 at least. And she needs to get more height in the 2a because she leaves a lot of GOE on the table there. But she doesn't have to learn a 3a or 4sal or even 3f3lo (although that would be good!), it's just tidying up and tweaking what she already has.
I don't think it's in Med's nature to be complacent. I think the injury did her in.And, IMHO, she became complacent in regard to competition.
Wait... Nikita? Aren't they supposed to be enemies of the highest order? Or is somebody trying to tell us that we over-dramatize things (just a bit) here on FSU?Ilinykh and Lipnitskaya gave a master class today, Nikita Katsalapov has joined them as well

Maybe. It is not always the people with triple axel who win the competition. Mirain Nagasu.... and even Mao did not always win it. And Tuktamysheva when she tried it the followin season after her very successful season.... Triple axel is a risk - it can help a lot, but it can also mean a big loss of points if it is not clean.Yes, but the idea is that she should upgrade the tech content and not to expect that the competitors with higher BV will fail.
Some people get on very well, as long as they don’t have to spend hours with each other every day. Which means - occassional (rare) meetup is great, but skating together may be a big no-no.Wait... With my big regret I have to announce that the season is over and I will not be able to participate at the World Championship. in Milan. But boundaries and obstacles are just temporary. I still have so much more to give and I never had a lack of motivation. I will be back on my feet soon and ready to reach new goals in my skating career.
Looking forward for it !!!
Let's just put this entire quad aside and they can start a new one.
