Yulia herself said that she has no interest in pairs. Not sure why people keep bringing this fantasy up when she already stated it wasn't going to happen...
It's a common reaction when a singles skater is struggling. Caroline Zhang, for example.

And how many times has it actually happened and worked out well? Valentina was a success story, but she was always interested in trying pairs, and there's not exactly the same depth in Italy that there is in Russia.

Injuries are what seem to be holding Yulia back and they aren't going to disappear if she would switch to pairs. Look at what just happened with Proklova.

Biryukova also managed it. They didn't compete internationally because of the strong competition in Russian pairs, but if they skated for any other country than Russia, China or Canada, they would very likely be going to Europeans/4CC and worlds.

I'm pretty sure Yulia has already thought this through and knows way more than any of us do. Just let us have our fun little pairs moment in peace. :drama: There's only so many layback spins that look like hers (none of them do)

Proklova had me at bright blue leopard print and :D Still sad to see her go. :(

I think Yulia would be tough enough to handle pairs, but I doubt she'd have the patience for a man. She's also very stubborn I think, so she may make a comeback as far away as 2024 if that's how long it takes for her to heal.

Very few, as you say but some fans don't let facts get in the way of such silly suggestions.

And then there are those who don't just ignore those silly suggestions, and just chime in because they want to show a "superior intellect".

I hope both Sotnikova and Liptitskaya are still around in 2019, I don't know if we'll ever see a discipline again with as much depth as Russia has in ladies right now.

But silly (pairs) suggestions are as silly does. :D

If she doesn't want to, fine that makes sense, but you can't just assume the worst if you're actually going to succeed at it. Plenty of these ladies that'll never make it to worlds could possibly succeed as a pairs skater, is that really a silly thought? More depth in Russia, more potential ladies pairs?

Valentina should be the proof, not the exception. :) She was 9th at words this year, beating one of the Russian teams. Zabijako/Enbert, who do only a double axel for one of their big elements.

I think that with time, success could happen for some of them. Finding a partner wouldn't be a walk in the park, but probably easier in Russia than Italy no? :p

ETA: yep I'm making it even longer. After Deanna Stellato came out of nowhere this year to be a legitimate pairs skater in her 30's, 16 years after being a 6.0 ladies singles skater, you can think my suggestion is as silly as you'd like. It's possible if you want it and put the work in.

If you think I'm trying to show off a "superior intellect" by posting facts in a news thread about the skater you claim to be such a fan of, then I guess I'm guilty as charged. Forgive me for thinking some people might want to know that she is dealing with a foot injury & that might be why she hasn't submitted plans - but she hasn't given up on singles yet. So even if she had not completely shot down the idea of skating pairs, she would not be available for it now anyway. This is reality, not gossip, "alternative facts," or fanfiction. I assume at least a few people here are like myself and more interested in truth and real information.

Honestly, if you just want to post self-indulgent fanfic and get nothing but positive feedback, there are better places for that on the internet, and in fact isn't that what The Trash Can is for? But you post what you want and I'll post what I want...it's a free world & we all know how to scroll. :blah:

Right, so scroll away. Don't get irritated over a pairs suggestions that you can just as easily scroll through. That comment was also mainly directed at @Nomad because of the little chime-ins with Caroline Zhang, not you.

But you are the one getting the most  by the silly Lipnitskaya suggestions, aren't you?

It's a free world and we all know how to scroll. :blah: So take your own advice if it's bothering you that much. I'm not providing alternate facts, I'm engaging in a discussion about a potential pairs idea. Other people were responding, before you decided to put everyone in check about it. For some reason it annoys you very much, which is kind of ridiculous. It's not even just about Yulia, but a lot of the Russian ladies in general.

Do I need to have a Yulia Lipnitskaya fan badge and kit to prove to you that I'm a fan? What exactly are you trying to prove by that "claim to be" comment? I mean tell me where I can sign up to prove to people I am, in fact, really a fan.

You'll be in for a really long season if you think you can police this thread.

Lipnitskaya to pairs suggestion was made by Vasiliev (an OGM-winning pairs coach) so not exactly fanfiction

I will never give up on Adelina coming back being kick-ass!!
I will never give up on Yulia coming back being kick-ass!! (she almost did last year, dressed in hot catsuit, then...:wuzrobbed

Darn, those two girls.... power-Adelina and subtle-Yulia....Yulia even got away from Eteri. And Adelina + Plush is epic. We need to see results of that!

Alisa Lozko has switched to ice dance, training in Moscow. Coach yet to be known. Not a rumour, she confirmed it herself on askfm.
I didn't expect that. She switched coaches during the last season, so I thought she would sort out whatever was the problem.

Last season she said she was thinking abt ice dance but then she moved to Pisarenko's group and Mikhailov has already choreographed her programs for the new season so I thought she wld stay in singles too.

Anyway, it's not to Irina Zhuk's grp, some other grp.

I'm really shocked by Lozko's decision. I thought the coaching move during the season was a sign of her commitment to improving her skating and tackling her under rotation issues. She didn't have quite the impact on the JGP circuit that I expected but I really liked her programmes this year. Will we get to see her wonderful spins in Ice Dance?

The Russian ladies are way too deep to be a contender with under rotation issues as a junior. Her switch to ice dance makes sense. Not only is it the disciple with the most "opportunity" (aka less depth) in Russia. But the qualities she already has should make her transition smoother than it would be for others.

Debatable regarding the current junior generation:
2017 Junior Worlds results
Ladies-1, 6, 10
Dance-2, 4, 5

2017 JGP medals
Ladies-12
Dance-12

I would agree, when looking at the larger picture, that the ladies discipline is deeper. But the current generation of Russian junior ice dance has depth.

I think why not? Let's beef up that ice dance/pairs depth again, shall we? :40beers: (future) Team gold for RUSSIA! Davai davai!!! :gallopin1

imagine the way she can use her flexibility in the lifts! The potential there is pretty friggen awesome. :kickass:

There is a rumour that Alisa's partner is Pitkeev. Whoever it is, it's a skater who is new to ice dance, according to Alisa herself
I hope that's not true. Alisa is still quite young, so she still has 4 years of junior eligibility. If she is paired with Pitkeev, he is now 19 so he has two years of junior eligibility. As they would be both ice dance beginners, they have a lot to catch up to be on the same level as those who may have done ice dance for a number of years, and being forced to move to seniors may end up the same way as it did for Stavitskaya. Alisa is lucky that she decided switch to ice dance relatively early, but being forced to move to seniors in a new discipline too early would definitely not help her future career. Hopefully she is paired with someone who is no more than two years older than her.

The other rumour is that Lena I is now coaching Morozov's daughter.

Regarding Lozko, according to her, a few months back she suffered a muscle tear so jumps are now even harder than before.

Yes, I am sure that Ilynikh would be so keen to help out to Morozov, after he arranged behind her back a tryout for Katsalapov with Sinitsina. Besides, it is not as if Morozov was so busy that he couldn't find the time to coach his daughter.

Maybe she wants to help out to his daughter, not to him. I think Miki and him did not finish the relationship in the best terms and yet Miki and Annabelle adore each other. Actually this is a great opportunity for her if she wants to become a coach. She is no longer the innocent girl of before, I think she can take advantage of the situation.
