true..there have been very good female ice dancers in Canada who had growth spurts and partnerships could not work anymore and the girls looked for taller partner, couldn't find one and so retired . Maybe in France? although there could be release problems there.

Popova interview:
-Transition from junior to senior is very difficult & that's why the pairs have split
-Suggestion to pair up came from Mozgov & his coaches, she can't say (doesn't know?) why he didn't want to skate with Anna
-Grateful to Yuri & former coaches for everything they did with her

It was clear that P/V were going nowhere, but I don't think the solution to her slowness and hunching is to go to Kustarova :shuffle:

I thought if you wanted to get your basics right - the correct address would be Dubova, not Linichuk. Although you're right that no one did more "blah" choreo than Linichuk.
 
Dubova never had a lot of choreography to :blah: about though, did she? :P at least with B/K

Linichuk cleaned up Belbin & Agosto quite a bit, that in itself was deserving of a parade in her honor IMO. :saint: I liked their line for the first time ever
 
The problem with Linichuck always was the very high trainwreck factor, even her top pairs were never safe from her "ideas" that potentially destroyed seasons and/or even careers: Think G/P's Latin monstrosity in 1996, K/O's drum FD (at least all the versions before Worlds), the middle "standing and posing" part of K/O's Carmen, L/A's JCS, LA's neon yellow rock and roll FD, B/A's 2010 programs, DomShabs' 2010 programs. It's also not clear how good she would be with the current version of COP, but most of the Russian dance coaches seem to have problems there. Also not clear if her general aesthetic is something that would gain favour with the judges or if it would be seen as old-fashioned. And I suspect she really burned herself with that 2010 DomShabs OD and did quite a bit of damage to her reputation, so how that would work out in political terms is anybody's guess.

Linichuk barely understood the rules under 6.0 and kept breaking them. There's no way she would do well under COP.
 
All the more reason to make a great comeback! She could be the entertainment that's missing in Ice Dance and leader of #teamtrainwreck with her intuitive creations. :gallopin1 And with a turned out freeleg, great edge work, and close holds with nice posture/good patterns on the ice in the SD.

Look, we forgive Shpilband and Morozov year after year after year, and yet they still get callbacks and :bribe:. She brings voids. She still hasn't shown what she can do with hip-hop! I'm sure it'll be something like a Barbara Streisand song with a jay Z beat :inavoid: or maybe she would try a classical ironic approach like "Rach to Hip-Hop"

Sad for her. I hadn't really followed this couple much. I did see them at Skate America last fall. For me, Anna stood out more there than Mozgov. I hope she's able to find a new partner.

This is so unfortunate. Y/M were so perfectly matched physically (very tall, statuesque, long limbs, complementary features) and they had a lot of star quality. I too hope she can find a new partner but I worry it may be hard due to her height (171 cm according to bio, might be even taller). I know height in an of itself is not a problem for ice dance, but in terms of finding a partner the right size it can make things harder. Sigh.

I really like Shpilevaya and think she has a lot of potential, she almost reminds me of a cross between Madison Chock and Elena Ilinykh. Smirnov is not as good as Nastia (IMO), but he's not a weak skater either so I think they have a good chance of doing well in seniors. Size wise she is very petite and unlikely to outgrow him. Their size difference right now is on the large end, but not to the point of being distracting IMO. They both appear to have a lot of ballet training and they gained momentum this season from winning the Youth Olympics and finishing ahead of P/V at Junior Worlds after missing the JGPF and finishing 3rd at Nationals. They are also a couple years younger than L/D and much better packaged (seriously, Loboda's packaging is horrific, on instagram she is stunning, slim, fit and yet her costumes are so dowdy and unflattering). I can see them being one of the top teams on the junior circuit next season, especially if both M/C and Parsons go senior.
 
Thank you for the interview with Anna. I cant understand why the coaches and Mozgov wanted this split. I really really liked and enjoyed watching them skate together, specially Anna.
they were the pair i was looking forward to follow but guess not .i hope Anna soon finds a new partner. Good luck to both of them.

Not this past season, IMO. She had obviously grown a bit, and it was tough to watch them struggle through their programs at Nationals. I was fully expecting a split after that and I'm not surprised at all.
 
Fresh rumors: Anna wanted to change coaches but Mozgov didn't agree. They stayed with Kustarova but nobody was happy with this situation - coaches included.
Don't know if it's true - it was speculated on Russian forums.
 
Last year this time many though Y/M could make an impact in seniors... Sad to see what has happened.:(

I consider myself a fan of Popova, I like her spicy personality on ice. So I guess I'll be curious to see what happens with Popova/Mozgov. But, I hope Anna finds a partner.
 
That was an explanation for why Crone and Poirier split: she wanted to leave, and he wanted to stay with Lane, which he did.

Hard to blame the coaches: who wants to spend time with an athlete who doesn't want to be there, and if he didn't want to leave, he didn't want to leave.
 
I wonder why he didn`t want to leave, though. It could have been his chance to get away from Kustarova. Maybe he hoped that they would get now the # 1 status in Kustarova`s group with I/Z in Novi? :confused:

- St. Petersburg, Samara, Sarabsk, Chelabinsk, Kazan (2nd episode, May 2nd)

Judges chose 2 girls and 2 boys in each city to for "phase one" in Moscow (40 kids).
Then, I'm not sure how many phases there were - final 10(?) -> final 4(?), anyway there should be two winners: a girl and a boy, who win the main prize: week of training under "top figure skating specialists" in Sochi plus I think their schools get some prize.
I don't know how many episodes overall and exact air dates though.

I've never been a fan of Y/M, though I liked them last year (maybe because they were competing against McNamara/Carpenter:scream:)but I feel really sorry for Anna.
In their pair I liked her more, as I liked Yury more in Popova/Vlasenko pair, hope, they both find partners :)

And ugh, Mozgov should have teamed up with Queen Monko as opposed to Bettina. Why choose trash over class? :drama:

I'm sorry, but Betina has one of the most lovely personalities on the camera. She looked like she was playing around and having a blast at the GPF. IMO there was never any question that she was going to get someone. She has star quality. And hasn't the most common complaint recently been that the Russian ladies from Worlds didn't have enough? I was rooting for Khaliavin, but I can see that Betina is closer to Mozgov's age.

Also, I don't think there is a huge mystery here. Anna grew this season. I feel very much for the fans who had fallen in love with this team. I know exactly how hard it is to see a team sweep the junior field and then disappear. And I think too often there is a rush to move on when the lady grows instead of working through the challenge. It drives me crazy!

But I hardly think Betina deserves to be called names. She was brought in from outside. And she is a wonderful performer. Anyone who could sell me the free dance she did this season deserves loads of credit in my opinion.

I can hardly see Anna growing this season, they still had a great difference in height and, let's not forget, Y/M had one of the best lifts among Russian ice dancers (except Z/G, but Tiffany fortunately has another basics).
Betina does have a star quality but in this season she, IMO, gained some weight and she has a lot(!) problems with lines (and moving to Kustarova won't help with this).

To be realist - I do not believe this move will help anyone, I don't see any perspectives:(

She doesn't care how her skaters do something as long as they are done! That kind of fast moving "progress" worked brilliantly in juniors as her teams cleaned up! Other skaters had coaches who cared about things that would matter in seniors and its why kustarova's teams collapse in seniors and why less successful teams than hers in juniors succeed in seniors.

She let her top team look like awful awful garbage and the only proper response is to just feel sorry for d/s and avoid her.
