From Russia with love [#23]: Spring/Summer 2016

Interview with Anna Yanovskaya
http://vpsfund.org/441-1/
- It's true, their pair does not exist anymore
- In the beginning of April he said that according to their coaches (?) decision he will skate with another partner
- She said that they were in good relationships, even celebrated this New Year together
- She wants to continue skating, saying that it is her dream and she won't give up

Is there any chance for her skating with Khaliavin, or to we know for sure that he will skate with Hurtado?

Since I'm not a dance expert by any stretch, a question: how likely is it that Smirnov/Shpilevaya will transition successfully to seniors when they make the switch? I quite like them; they have (to my admittedly inexpert eyes) an attractive elegance and lightness. But I'm not knowledgeable enough about dance scoring to really see if they have the goods to become really competitive senior skaters.

-She also says that her injury 'just slowed down a bit the training process', so doesn't sound like it's career-ending, and that they both skated with injuries the previous season (Sergei had knee injury, she skated with stress fracture in her foot at the Junior Worlds that they won);
-she says she was blindsided by the news of the split, she thought everything was peachy perfect in the partnership before the partner told her about the coaches' decision to pair him up with a new partner and that they were to start training the very next day;
-she makes it sound like her parents paid for many things in the partnership, including Mozgov's medical bills;
-she realizes it won't be easy for her to find a partner since she is tall.

Poor Anna, hopefully she can find someone else. There were a lot of break ups of Canadian teams after Nationals. Are any of those guys tall enough for her?

Mozgov, I used to like you.. NO! I used to love you - asshole!
:huh:
my only hate sprung from my only love - ah no, it was the other way around :rofl:

@kosjenka i am a bit shocked - what's going on?
so 'easy' to be the first one to shout out and blame the other part.

his version of the (reasons for the) split might be quite different and definitely interresting.

According to fskate.ru, she is only 163cm. In comparison with other dancers she is not that tall.
Tiffany 174cm
Elena 164cm
Stepanova and Sinitsina both 168
Bobrova 166

About the same size as Monko. Quick, someone stop him before he goes to Spain!
There are othe countries that need decent dancers males. Though in Russia he is likely to have bigger choice.

ETA: I just realised, no need to worry about him, he will very likely skate with Popova.

Mozgov is skating with Betina Popova now. She switched to Kustarovas group.

@Jeschke they both had problems with injuries, but were dealing with them. Mozgov is the stronger partner than Yanovskaya, but Popova is much worse than Yanovskaya IMO. So if Yanovskaya does not have a career ending injure, he is downgrading.
I wanted good for Mozgov (still do, despite him being an a-hole) but he is not creating a better partnership. It is not like they were impossible to work together, fights ect. They were friends off the ice.
Maybe a good Canadian would make an interesting mix for Yanovskaya. Or French? Someone new. Ideas?

Bettina to Kustarova? It's the worst of the choices. She does need so much work on basics, and Kutarova doesn't teach good basics. Oh well :(
Kustarova must be able to teach good basics considering how many junior skaters won junior worlds under her. She may not be great with posture, but the basics must be pretty decent.

She does not. The inability of her students to evolve proves my point. But Bobrova/Soloviev are the best examples. Under Volkov/Zhulin, they had the hardest time to learn proper skating technique using knee bend and not bending to gain speed. That's the worst basics ever for an ice dance coach.

If she is that bad, how do you explain her students winning junior worlds? And beating those whose coaches are (in your view) so much better?
