From Russia with love [#23]: Spring/Summer 2016

128.91 in FS actually seems more likely. 89.97 for Gubanova with seven landed triples is definitely much too little. Also, that would mean that her SP score was 39.94 . What kind of a disaster it must have been for her to earn that score ;)?
PCS is very low for those levels of competition.

It is 128 total, not in the FS. I am not sure why it is so little but it is what the result table says. Check the protocols.

Yes, sorry, I already understood that you were correct, and deleted my post - too late, I see.

Thanks for the explanation. It's just that Gubanova has already taken part in higher level competitions and there her scores have been higher, especially for clean or near clean skates.

Well, she wasn't clean though. She had a fall in the SP and another in the FS. It wouldn't be good enough for JGP event to skate like that. She would be buried too low to medal.

There's also one less spin (and spins top out at level 3) IIRC, and you can't do a 3+3 in the SP at this level. Her LP score here is actually excellent for this level, though obviously the SP had issues. She's grown a lot this year and IMO is still adjusting.

ETA: her TES score here is basically the same as the one in Rooster Cup and NRW but the PCS is lower, which could just be a tougher panel. She's 13 and growing....there's so much time before the JGP. Sotnikova wasn't exactly killing it the season before her JGP due to a growth spurt and she ended up winning everything the next year. Her LP had all + GOE and she landed two 3+3 combos so she's not exactly doing poorly ;)

Those fs girls almost never mention others by themselves, it's always "focusing on myself, my training, my mistakes" etc., but mighty Tsurskaya, after winning another JGP event said in some interview, she is expecting Gubanova to be her great rival in next year junior grand prix.
That's how good Anastasia is. (y)

Thank you for the link of Gubanovas skate.
I really like her and hope to see her at JGP next season.

SIX? Are you kidding me?
Let's say coach, choreographer, doctor, psychologist, but who else? Manicurist?
Now I understand, why all these skaters want to join her group - Maria Sotskova had to pay with her own money for short summer camp with Rafael Arutunian and brought home two JGP golden medals, JWs and GPF silvers, saving three spots for next year's Russian junior team.
It's simply more financially rewarding to be world's 18th in CSKA, than champion anywhere else...

A psychologist? Money down the drain in this case...but he took 2 coaches (Buyanova & Zavosin), massage therapist maybe...

I remember reading that TAT bought Kovtun a lot of expensive gifts. So much investment into someone who doesn't even particularly like skating, and so little return...

The thing is Kovtun is not some super talent that we're all waiting to finally put it together. He's a mediocre skater who is competitive only because he can sometimes muscle out some high base value jumps with poor technique by hunching into them.

I`m confused, I thought the Russian Fed has to cut back with their expenses?

I think Kovtun was their best hope in the last years, but now they have Kolyada :swoon: and a bunch of other talented guys, so Kovtun will be confronted with much more competition in the future.

No. He is a "good average" skater...;) Probably you remember the reactions of some users.

I would translate it, but I fell asleep mid-sentence

Someone needs to get her a personality.

She is so bland - the most newsworthy thing about her is that she's Stepanova's twin.
Yes, they seem to me quite similar. In appearance and in not standing out personality wise. Bland, needs some spices.

he is with rukavicin, or? we all know, how things will end for him, with quad lutz or without... :EVILLE:
Not sure what you are implying, but Rukavitsin takes 'lost causes', skaters that other coaches would consider that they are done, and usually manages to achieve some success with them. Menshov has done pretty decently with him, Leonova moved to him when she was on downhill trajectory and managed to keep herself in the mix for GP event, Sakhanovich went to him when her trouble started and towards the complete season it seemed that her problem stabilised, not to mention Feditchkina and Aliev who are doing great.

What I want to imply: Rukavicin (and his female pendant Volchkova) always have stunning skaters, who are unfortunately headcases nonetheless.

Makarova, Artemieva, Gorshkov - need to say more?

Aliev and Kitty are still juniors... so keep calm and let's see what the future might bring to them.
I hope it's bright and golden, but to protect my heart, I am prepared :P

And let's be honest; Sima is a 2 time world juniors medalist; she should aim higher than getting her problems stabilised. This year was a downhill road for her and I cannot see her anywhere close to being in contention for a major champs anyhwere soon.

Having him as coach is the first step to joining team trainwreck

Not sure if you noticed, but Serafima doesn't need to be in contention for anything any time soon. The season starts in six months time!
