Fall 2024-Summer 2025 New/Returning/Streaming/TV Shows

I won’t start a new thread for this, but here is the cast for season four of White Lotus.

Let’s hear it for Helena.

I thought Season 3 was a bit lame, so i hope the 4th will better again.

I have watched the first three episodes of The Hunting Wives and it gets worse and worse. I thought it’d be a fun show about lesbias in Texas but everyone is unlikeable and despicable. And I HATE EVERY SINGLE TEEN CHARACTER.

I've watched the first episode. It promises exactly the same formula as previous seasons, which is fine. It's pleasant nonsense.
I did too. Then I had to go somewhere. Sophie doesn't act like I was expecting based on reading the book so that is confusing. Heh.

I'll see how it goes. It seems like, just like last season, they are combining books since it looks like they will also do Eloise's love story. Or at least set it up for next season. Also, Francisca is around instead of in Scotland like in the books so I wonder if her story will also progress.

They have also added a romance for Mama Bridgerton, so the books are definitely not being followed to the letter. To me, this show is simply a soapy, fun escape from reality. I like that the stories being told don't follow the books exactly. Adds an element of surprise.

I like it when they improve on issues in the books. But sometimes they make it worse.

So……I think The Beauty premieres tonight on FX. Can anyone here say whether it’s actually good? Or does it further signal to me that Ryan Murphy likely needs an intervention? I’m already committed to watching Love Story (JFK, Jr. and Carolyn Bassette-Kennedy) when it starts on Valentine’s Day. May God help me. 😆

Update: We now have a trailer! And it premieres on FX/Hulu on Thursday. We’ll be in a break because the free dance and men’s free! 🍿 😜

Update: Now that we have a break today from Olympic skating, I’ve now binge watched the first three episodes of Love Story. It’s so far turning into everything I 😄 🤔 😆 🙃 🙄 about Ryan Murphy’s work.

Below is one example (in spoiler):

Especially when Jackie O becomes sick, the final scene has her collapsing onto the floor while you are hearing “Come Undone” by Duran Duran. I wish that I was kidding.

You get the impression that Murphy had decided to set up Daryl Hannah as the girlfriend that was just “too desperate” for JFK, Jr. to marry her, while Carolyn Bessette was the one “who fit” for him.

But I’m too committed now. I have to see this miniseries through! 😆

Would you believe me if I told you a spin-off from "The Game of Thrones" is charming? To be sure there are bad characters and some violence but the story of Dunk (Ser Duncan) and his squire Egg (short for another name) in "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" is actually pretty sweet.

The lead is a massive Irish actor and former rugby player Peter Claffey and he is so convincing as the poor and kind knight. And the boy who plays Egg is wonderful on screen and off in interviews. The GOT folks have hit on something here and I'm all in.

Drive to Survive S8 trailer dropped:

Looks like we're going to get a bit of focus on the rookies and there will be some spotlight on what happened to Jack (hopefully not trying to justify it because it was unjustifiable). Zak Brown is going to feebly try and peddle his "two number ones" lie, minor villain arc for Oscar and horror movie villain arc for Max.

Episode titles have dropped for Drive to Survive Season 8

1. New Kids on the Track
2. Strictly Business
3. The Number 1 Problem
4. A Bull With No Horns
5. The Sky's The Limit
6. The Duel
7. What Happens In Vegas
8. Here Comes Chucky

My guess is that 1 will introduce the rookies (there were six last year: Jack Doohan, Liam Lawson, Isack Hadjar, Gabriel Bortoleto, Kimi Antonelli, and Ollie Bearman). 2 will be about the horrible way Liam and Jack were treated and particularly the unjustifiably horrible way Jack was treated by Alpine (though I have no doubt they will try and justify this).

3 will be about McLaren and their determination to not choose a number 1 driver for the title fight...unfortunately, it sounds like they completely gloss over the obvious favouritism. 4 will cover the sacking of Christian Horner and Red Bull's internal turmoils. 5 will be the Williams episode. No-one's quite sure what 6 will be about as early reviews indicate that Monza, Singapore and Qatar - three huge flashpoint moments in the title race where McLaren chose an obvious favourite - are not covered. 7 will cover the Las Vegas Grand Prix and the massive drama there. And 8 will be about how Max nearly ran down Norris and came within two points of his fifth World Championship.

Early reviews are not promising: the format is called stale and tired, and there is criticism of Zak Brown being the main character and the teams clearly using vetos heavily to give a sanitised treatment to the scandals.

So related to streaming, although not a specific show. I learned today that if you rent something through the Apple TV app, the rental fee (if there is one) will come out of your Apple account, not from a credit card. This is significant for me because I have a couple of hundred dollars credit on my account from various gift cards purchased at a discount in a credit rewards program. I’m quite pleased and rented a movie I’d never seen but wanted to so I can watch it on the gym while on the stupid treadmill.

It's Drive to Survive night!

Thoughts below:

Episode 1:
  • They're doing a great job illustrating how young the rookies are. You're really forcibly reminded how Kimi, especially, was barely more than a child.
  • The backstage of the O2 launch was awesome. Liam looking to Max all anxiously when the crowd started booing really tugs the heartstrings.
  • Finally! After all these years, Australia makes it to DTS!
  • ...but how are we doing an episode in Australia and not looking at the massive hype for Oscar?
  • Oh, Isack. That happened right across from where I was sitting.
  • The carnage of Melbourne is displayed well. That was a brutal race one for the rookies.
  • No mention of the team order from McLaren ordering Oscar to not attack Norris.
  • Liam really had no real chance. Horner claiming he makes mistakes under pressure, never mind that that race had already claimed the most experienced driver in history.
  • They really missed a trick here; the story of Oscar spinning into the grass, getting himself out, then tearing through the field to get back in the points was one of the best ones of the season and they just kinda ignore it.

Episode 2:
  • Ewwwwww, Briatore.
  • I dislike that they introduce Briatore as controversial, but don't explain why - that he was once banned for life for race fixing.
  • If you got a sinking feeling when Briatore greets Franco Colapinto warmly, you're right to.
  • Oh, interesting, they're comparing Alpine and their treatment of Jack to Sauber and their treatment of Gabriel.
  • At least they're not lying about Jack's accident in Japan, but they don't tell the truth about it, either.
  • Jack talking about the death threats is so heartbreaking. He just wanted to race with his friends. He just wanted to enjoy his rookie season.
  • Contrary to what they show here, the decision had been made prior to Miami. Because of the giant cheque the Argentinean sponsors handed Alpine.
  • Obviously, I am very biased because I have loved and followed Jack since he was in F3, but my heart is breaking listening to him.
  • (And thus it makes it hard to feel at all sympathetic to Colapinto when Briatore is roasting him.)
  • The buildup to Nico's podium is so good though. It was the only redeeming feature of the Silverstone weekend for me and it was such a huge moment. All those long years, all those many races, and finally, finally, he got it.

Episode 3:
  • Ugh, Zak Brown.
  • Norris prattling on as if he ever had a real chance at the title in 2024...
  • "we have papaya rules, which aren't that complicated, it's just don't run each other off the track". Oh. Is that so, Mr Brown? Spoiler alert...that only applies one way, as it turns out.
  • Why are we having this fake storyline where Zak prefers Oscar? Anyone with eyes knows he favours Norris.
  • I am absolutely baffled by this positioning of Oscar as Zak's favourite.
  • There have been no mention of team orders previously - particularly the terrible one in Australia. But of course, we must introduce it into the narrative in Silverstone...
  • For the record: Norris got the benefit of the team order in Australia, despite it being Oscar's home race, and Norris had also requested a team order in Imola.
  • Ugh, we're pretending like Norris actually earned the win in Silverstone.

So far: some parts are still okay, there's still the occasional good moment, but the way things are sanitised and presented and the chopping of storylines (I note that at the end of Episode 3 we still haven't established what happened to Liam) is getting worse and worse with each year.

I can't wait for this summer! Season 3 of Interview with the Vampire — now rebranded as The Vampire Lestat, to go with the shift in focus from Louis to Lestat — is coming in June, and the trailers are getting me pretty excited for Lestat the rock star (and pissed off diva who won't speak to Louis because of the way he was portrayed in the book, lol). :)

Has anyone else watched Season 2 of "The Night Manager" on Amazon Prime? I didn't pay attention to how many episodes there were and that there would also be a season 3 or I wouldn't have been so shocked they ended on a cliffhanger. I hope it's not a four year wait for Season 3. :p

Speaking of cliffhangers, I finally managed to watch the Outlander prequel Blood Of My Blood. It was very good and the two leads must have studied Outlander's main characters very closely to resemble the irmannerisms and ways of speaking so well. I guess I'll be re-subscribing to the relevant streamer again when season 2 comes round to find out what happens.

I'm wondering if there was anything in the series which viewers will need to know for the final season of Outlander starting next week. As the two series are on different services here many might not have seen it.

Did anyone watch the season finale of Tehran? I have enjoyed all the twists and turns especially
Hugh Laurie’s character turned out to be sort of a good guy after all
and I was very bummed that
Faraz died :wuzrobbed I liked his character’s complications and him trying to do the right thing also for his wife

Has anyone watched season 4 of Bridgerton yet? If so, how is it--especially as compared to season 3? (I really wanted to like season 3, but just didn't.)

I did. It was okay.

Benedict is one of my favourite Bridgertons (along with Eloise) so I liked that piece but there was something that I just didn’t like about it too.

I think maybe the whole social status angle was a bit off putting?

The scenes I liked best were in the country house away from London society.

I’d say it’s worth a watch but don’t get your hopes up too high. Lol.

Watched the first 3 eps that dropped for S2 of Paradise. Requires a lot of suspension of disbelief but loved it and can't wait for the rest of the season.

@sk8pics What season of Tehran? I watched S1 and didn't finish S2. The addition of Glenn Close was great but the main character just kept making such bad choices that made it impossible to believe she was highly trained. Worst spy evarrrrrrr!

I only watched the first part of Season 4of Bridgerton. I think the changes they made to the story make it better than the book which I found upsetting and problematic. I guess I'll see if they wrap it up nicely or piss me off. Part Two dropped today, right?
