Fall 2022-Summer 2023 New/Returning TV/Streaming Shows

Has anyone else been watching the FX/Hulu docuseries “The Secrets of Hillsong?” The last two episodes dropped last night. It’s pretty fascinating and disturbing - especially the Frank and Brian Houston stuff.

The interviews with Carl and Laura Lentz in the second episode were kinda hard to watch. I felt that Carl still seemed “lost” about what happened, and his disheveled look made it worse.

I am planning to watch it at some point (I was waiting for some of my other shows to go on summer hiatus, the last of which just finished up this week) although it may have to wait until the final episodes of Manifest come out next weekend now. :cheer:

Being Mary Tyler Moore is a good retrospective about the woman outside of her roles and the influence she had on her generation and beyond. There is footage that I think will be new to most audiences and revealing about Mary and her beliefs. There is a telling interview with David Susskind (what an oinker but probably a typical man of his day) where Mary calmly asserts her feminism. And it details some failures as well. This is a good documentary. MAX

This looks so good! :cheer2:

I finally watched Inside Man on Netflix and I was disappointed with half of the story. I thought Stanley Tucci, as a criminologist on death row, was fascinating and I would love to see him in this role again. But the other half of the story was just not plausible to me. And that is a shame because it reunited "Dr Who" writer Steven Moffat with David Tennant as an English vicar who makes wrong decision after wrong decision following a misunderstanding. A British journalist ties the criminologist and the vicar together in this story. Still I never stopped watching and never wanted to stop watching. I wish Moffat would have come up with a better story for the vicar though.

While Ted Lasso is done I have some speculation of a spin-off.

Keely suggests a women’s league purchase to Rebecca. I could see an interesting spin-off from this. I suppose time will tell.

@Cachoo
My problem with Inside Man is that it was completely written off worse case scenarios. I don't know if anyone actually planned a story other than that.

I agree about Tucci's character being the only interesting part

Looks SOOOO good! :cheer2:
I am a die hard Oliphant fan. And, I loved Justified even if the character strays from the original Elmore Leonard books a bit. Who cares when you get Oliphant. Everytime I drove over the Kentucky River bridge outside of Lexington, I thought about the show (that's where the opening scene was filmed).

Smartless on the Road on MAX is one of the funniest things I’ve watched in awhile. I am laughing out loud so much at Bateman, Arnett, and Hayes. I’ve never listened to their podcast but I’ll definitely be tuning in now. They have such an awesome friendship and are hysterical with each other.

I love them but I might have to kill Jason if I lived with him. Can you imagine him and Arnett on the set together all of those years? A couple of pistols...and of course Sean is so sweet and uber talented.

The Clearing: Available on Disney+ and it is a mystery. There are two timelines running at the same time and it took awhile to figure that out. Not a fan of this way of telling the story but I am intrigued enough to keep watching. There is a bit of a head scratcher at the end of episode one.

So on one of our channels here that got the rights to show HBO series just dumped all the seasons of "The Wire.
A series which debuted in 2002 apparently and I may be the last person to hear about this show.

But my husband and I are halfway through series 2 now and I am loving this show. So well done. So if there exists anyone else who has never heard of this show before and has access to it I highly recommend giving it a go. I have read some say it takes a few episodes to get into it so if that applies to you don't give up. The fact that I LOATHE Dominic West and hate watch him in general is a testament to the quality of this series.

One of my favorite shows ever. Amazing. I have to rewatch it. I thought it was damn near perfect. The characters, the writing... This show gave me Stringer Bell and Omar, and just so much more.

I finished watching Ted Lasso. Man, I loved that show. So funny. So moving. So heartfelt.

Me, too. I didn’t love the 3rd season but I loved the last couple of episodes.

ETA: I started rewatching Season 1 and am sniffling a lot at certain things in light of the finale. Very cool to see how it all fits together.

We started “High Desert” on Apple, enjoyable so far and I love Patricia Arquette. I do wish casting could have landed Christian Slater for her husband. Matt Dillon is good but it would have been a nice Alabama/Clarence call-back. It’s kind of where those two characters were headed so would have fit perfectly.

I just binged 'Slow Horses' on Apple+ Great show, acting, well paced, spy show with a sense of humor.
On thing that cracked me up. Gary Oldman is in a car - radio playing The Proclaimers 500 steps is playing and he is singing along. That song is from his movie 'Sid & Nancy. Just a great scene. Oldman is great in this show - plays a character that doesn't give a f#*$. And Kristin Scott-Thomas is great as a very conniving boss. rest of regulars are a bunch of misfits that you are rooting for.

Hhhhmmm.... "The Lazarus Project" starts on TNT in less than an hour. I might give it a go. HBO has the new series starring Lily Rose Depp. Looks interesting but I think the science fiction series interests me more.

I started watching Twin Peaks and am still trying to decide if I like it or not. It alternates between smart, stupid, funny, campy and just plain weird.

Has anyone watched Silo on Apple TV? Is it any good?
I am trying—-it is not a bad show but I am not that interested in these characters or the mysteries surrounding their home.

I watched two new shows last night. “The Lazarus Project” focuses on a clandestine group that can turn back the clock to stop mass extinction events. Interesting idea but not crazy about the execution. Early days though….TNT

“The Idol” is HORRIBLE. After years of great shows HBO has produced a bonified turkey. It is sexist, misogynistic and The Weekend can’t act for ****. Going from “Succession” to this is like following “Schindler’s List” with “Showgirls.” I hope this isn’t a harbinger of things to come from HBO. You could always depend on their programming choices.

I was going to check out The Idol, and when the warning came on for violent sexual content I said nope and didn’t go any further. Glad to hear I didn’t miss anything.

I watched The Lazarus Project - found it very interesting. I will keep watching. I'm trying to avoid trying to read up about it for fear of spoilers since I think it already aired overseas.

Oh, I loved Twin Peaks when it first aired - I was glued to my TV each week (no binge watching then!) I do think it went a bit off the rails after the first season (definitely got weirder) and I never saw the movie that aired after it was over either, but I had a deep love for the show. The theme song alone was great, so haunting - I bought the sheet music to it!
