Evgenia Medvedeva Cheer thread

I'm actually glad she pulled out of the GPF because she doesn't need to skate there. It would do nothing for her. I'm glad they're being smart and focusing on the real prize this season. I don't always like her programs, but I think she's a brilliant skater who deserves to be skating her best at the Olympics. Hope she is recovering super quickly and can get ready for a great Olympic moment.

Good for her pulling out of what is really a meaningless event to focus on the bigger picture. She's my favorite lady skater (I don't tend to like to watch ladies as much) and I hope that she has her opportunity to become Oly champion.

Now I am wondering if she will skate at the Russian nationals? They are just 2-3 weeks away. I would like to see her rested, healed, and ready for the Europeans in mid-January, instead of aggravating what seems like a serious injury. Now it is even more important for her to heal and win the Olympic Gold.

I really feel like cheering for Evgenia now. She did nothing wrong. I hope she gets to Pyeongchang and does her best there, and makes her country proud.

Zags too.

I hope this is good news. I don't want her to rush her comeback. If she doesn't compete at the RN, I am sure she will still get a spot on the Olympic team.

In any case, good luck to Zhenya.

Article on Medvedeva's WD from Russian Nationals with a quote from Gorshkov: https://rsport.ria.ru/figure_skating/20171219/1130295747.html

MOSCOW, Dec 19 - R-Sport, Veronika Stolbunova. Two-time world champion in figure skating Evgenia Medvedeva will miss the Russian championship, because doctors recommended not to force her recovery after injury, the president of the Federation of figure skating of Russia, Alexander Gorshkov, told R-Sport.
...
On Tuesday, a source familiar with the situation told R-Sport that Medvedeva had just removed the cast a week ago, so she would skip the Russian championship and continue preparations for the European Championships, which will be held January 17-20 in Moscow.

Good news that her leg is healed and she is not in pain. I hope she takes it easy and not
push herself to train to get ready for Europeans. Not sure if she can be ready for Euros in 4 weeks.
Fingers crossed that all goes well for Med and that we will see her smiling face again on the ice soon.

I agree. Her real goal still has to be the OGM. However, if she is strong enough by the Euros it could provide a tune up. Hopefully the doctors will advise her again when it gets closer to the Euros. This time she took the advice and that is good.

I just hope someone besides Med has the final say. I know it is Euros but she has her whole life to consider. And I can't imagine anyone who less needs a "tune-up" competition than Med.

Maybe she could just skate the SP and withdraw. Even though I agree that she needs a tune up skate less than others, still, for the Olympics....

I look at it like this. Evgenia will know how she's feeling ... how her leg is feeling before Russian Nationals. I believe she'll take it one day at a time, and if she feels something is wrong, then she may decide not to skate and compete. She's smart and has a good head on her shoulders. If something isn't right, she may make a decision not to skate because the Olympics is more important, and I don't think she would wish to destroy that chance when there's a possibility she could win a Gold Medal.

Someone here said Russian Nat'ls will be streaming on ESPN3! I'm not seeing it unfortunately! Anybody? ;-)

Checked You-Tube and last seasons videos are out there! Will have to wait until they're d/l in a few days! Someone will do it! Thanks anyway! :barrel :plush: :sarah1: :shizuka1:

I believe the competition begins on 12:21. So today may be too early to see it.

I checked my tv and it seems I don't get espn3. I may have to pay a lot to get that added. Century link sucks. I may have to depend on Russian tv and my computer.

I was disappointed when she placed below Alina in the SP. The hand writing is on the wall and i am resigned to her not winning the OGM despite dominating the last two seasons.

I just want her to skate a clean LP, and i want her to be happy with her skate. I am quite nervous for her. I am afraid that she is going to make at least one mistake. If she skates great and still loses, at least she will not have any regrets. She is a mature young lady, and i think she will handle with grace whatever placement she gets.

Good luck to Zhenya tonight/ morning.

She will skate last so I hope this will benefit her. I think she can still win this.

I hope so. It won't be easy to close the gap in the SP scores. So i have to bring my expectations down. I just want her to have a great skate tonight.

I think next season (whether she wins tonight or not) she may try to get a quad salchow. She had mentioned an interest in it in the past.
