Evgenia Medvedeva Cheer thread

Oh my. I can't even imagine going last with everything on the line. What a competitor. I think the PCS should have been bigger and given Med the gold, but I had a feeling this was what was going to be happen.

on the other hand, it can be good because she will be motivated to the next Olympics.... yes, I know, she is Russian :(, simply to get another Olympic spot will cost blood.

She was almost 2.5 points ahead of Zag in PCS (Kaetlyn was ahead of Zag in PCS). I think Med will be replaying her decision to move the 3f/3t combo to the start - the bonus she would have gotten from doing it in the second half could have been the difference.

Wonderful skate, though. I was wanting her to get the gold.

I know. I think the difference should have been bigger. IMO, Zag gets inflated PCS scores. Hers are almost as high as Kostner's.

Kostner's scores are always inflated IMO! IDK how she remains so high in comp. when her skating is so far below the top skaters; obviously giving her more in the component scores! Ridiculous! If the jumps aren't there she shouldn't even be close to these top girls! She just got back the LUTZ so it helped! :COP: :judge: :irina1: :oksana1:

Evgenia's performance tonight was gorgeous. I absolutely loved the AK program. I couldn't choose in the free, like the judges. I truly hope that she meant what she said that was not looking for a medal but for a feeling after the free, because she really should be so proud, and she handled that with a lot of class. :)

(I accidentally posted in the wrong thread for a second. Sorry about that).

Zagitova and her scores are all a farce, GOE and PCS both. Medvedeva is the real gold medalist and Osmond the real silver medalist. Alinai Crapitova would be lucky to be bronze medalist with accurate scoring. Congrats to the REAL gold medalist, who has earned all her medals and titles and was robbed of Olympic gold unlike Crapitova who has atleast 4 undeserved wins in her first senior season already.

Just noticed that Zag and Med actually tied in the free skate score, but Med won the free because her PCS were higher!

I personally think that Med 2 points above Zag in PCS is about right - both are a bit too 'flaily' for my tastes, but Med DEFINITELY Should be ahead. I think Kaetlyn should be ahead of Med, though in that area.

I think Kostner deserves higher PCS scores than Zag. But, if she doesn't have a great jump, she shouldn't get the GOE for a great jump. Kostner wasn't even close to Zag's total score.

Atleast I wont feel bad about the Russians not having their anthem with the Crapitova winning. Had beautiful wonderful Medvedeva won I would feel awful about her not getting to hear her own anthem but with the awful Zagitova winning, thank goodness she has to just get the lame Olympic anthem and probably miss hearing her own. Hopefully Medvedeva will get to hear the Russian anthem in 2022!

And Kostner on her WORST day, even if she fell on every jump, would deserve higher PCS than someone like Zagitova who has the elegance, style, and musicality of a baby elephant having a bowel movement. Kostner on her absolute best day deserves the highest PCS of anyone, including Medvedeva, in all honesty. And I am not even a Kostner fan but her skating skills are unmatched, and her line and elegance is not even closed to matched by all but a few skaters, which comes with age and experience in the sport when you are a talent like her.

Evgenia skated lovely and she should be proud of her skate. It was just a matter of one of them worked the skating rules to their advantage. If Evgenia had done the same(one wonders why a coach had one backload their program and the other not) then she would have won.

Evgenia is not stupid, she knows the rules, she could to do the same if she feels capable. Was not she adding extra jumps last season? I do not think she did it at Eteri's request.

Why try to compare a child with a woman who's been at it for her 4th Olympics? Please! Carolina should be more mature out on the ice and a child like AK would be more spastic with less grace! Give her time, but she totally deserved the GOLD! Hanyu saved his standing by having a SP cushion to help him; AK did the same! :COP: :judge: :irina1: :plush: :respec:

I'm heartbroken. Had to switch off the stream when the scores came up and she started sobbing. Poor girl, she did absolutely what she could, but she just doesn't have the strength to backload so much. I have nothing against Alina, but Evgeniya is a definite favourite. I hope she continues...

Me too. When the judges gave those massive PCS to Alina in the SP, it was clear who they favored.

I am sad for Zhenya. She gave everything she had. It was very emotional for her. She loved that program and she delivered it under intense pressure. So disappointing!

Her SP and LP this season were the best of her career. She really has grown as an artist and performer. The PCS marks between her and Alina (especially in the SP) should not have been that close :wall:

Her downfall, wasn't her actual skating, but her injury and missing the GPF. The judges seem to jump on the Alina bandwagon so fast that Evgenia just didn't have enough time to really win them back. Euros sealed the deal

Exactly. Med skipped the GPF to allow her injury to heal. The judges decided Alina would be the next queen, and they gave her the GPF, then the Euro title, and eventually the OGM. How could they just write off the skater who had dominated ladies FS for two years, and until she got injured? Shame on them. They could have been more objective.

It seems fate was against Zhenya. Despite her contributions, Russia will recognize only Zagitova.

Stay classy. Evgenia is classy in defeat. Her fans should be classy too. It must be much more difficult for her than it is for any of us to see her win only a silver after that wonderful performance. If she can handle it, we can too.

I think that was the best performance I've seen from Medvedeva. The quality of her jumps has deteriorated but her skating and artistry have improved. There's nothing wrong with that.

She was off the ice for something like two months with a broken ankle. It is hard to make up the missed practice time. Europeans was her first competition after coming back from injury, and that was just 3-4 weeks ago.

She’s gold in my heart. That LP was breathtaking and it’s the one I’ll watch over and over again from this ladies event at the Olympics. All my family members who only watch FS at the Olympics were mesmerized by her too. Evgenia reaches people in a way that’s special.

I’m glad she’s going to continue after this season and try for Beijing. If it’s possible she’ll find a way to do it. I wouldn’t underestimate her grit and competitive drive.

Her program closed the Olympic figure skating and rightfully so. It was spectacular. I expected her to be second after the SP, but that didn't prevent me from crying with her at the end. She's gold in my heart too. Nothing bad against Zagitova, she's a tremendous jumper, but that isn't enough for me.

I got an email from a friend who used to be a FS fan but had lost touch last few years. She has just gotten back to watching FS again. She wrote that the ladies competition made her sad, and it will be hard for her to watch FS again.

I am going to continue to watch it and hope to see Zhenya skate that program at worlds, and win. Things will return to normal at worlds, I think. Olympics are just crazy. I can't believe Med skated two clean performances and still lost. We have seen this movie before, in 1998.

What was her reasoning? Just the result, or the direction of the skating?

I haven't liked Evgenia's style as much in the past and tonight I realized maybe she is just the product of the Russian training environment, that she coasted on technical advantage the past few years. When she finally met her match and could not beat Alina technically, I think she found some resource within her to try and drag out the components score better in the hopes of winning on PCS. Maybe that's the reason I felt this was her best skate, even if technically she wasn't as strong.

I'm of the same opinion as your friend in figure skating, unfortunately. This feels more like figure jumping now. Technical difficulty and innovation should most definitely be highly rewarded in competitions, but I think there is almost a singular focus on it now, at the expense of so many other qualities.
