Curious Random Question 2024 Year End

I guess I'm the oddball. Only 2 purchases for me. It was a couple of e-books for my Kindle Reader.

I am not going to count Kindle stuff because I only have free books right now. :)

And the answer is 25. I thought it would be more.

213 :yikes: :shuffle:.

It's not quite as bad as it seems:
  • Various "Subscribe and Save" items are split into individual orders
  • I had a credit card that gave me a bonus for reaching a certain number of transactions. So I bought something like 50 (maybe more) £5 Amazon.com gift certificates to get the bonus
  • 12 of them are Amazon Music

There's no easy way to get average order value, but I suspect the median order is < £10 and the average probably closer to £20.

In 2023, my number was 108 orders.

145, I didn't take out returns count.

I'd say 80% of them were gifts most off a list provided to me by kids or their parents or items I would need to go to specialty store fronts that aren't locally available.

Since I don't drive, I don't want to impose on my husband to drive 40 or more miles at a time while I search multiple stores to find something

80. The biggest categories were gifts and things for my camping property/camper. Not fun things, things like clamps and sewer hoses.

28. Close to half of them were gifts (some purchased on behalf of my sister, who reimbursed me) and also grocery orders from Amazon Fresh when I couldn't go out to the store for one reason or another . . . and one in-store shopping trip to Whole Foods is showing up on my list.

The rest were mainly books, and a few little items like a charger cord or a pencil sharpener.

30 :slinkaway
In my defence I am unable to shop in person anymore. All my purchases were things to help with keeping me comfortable or adapting to my situation, and a few Christmas presents.
I see Amazon as super convenient. There are certain items I can’t easily lift. How nice to have those items placed on your porch. And a lot of the grocery prices are not inflated. It can be both frivolous and practical and I like that.

147. Which isn't too bad considering I live in the middle of nowhere, and have zero stores that offer things like sneakers (especially in my size). Christmas really puts us over the top. Big families will do that. ??‍♀️ I have no shame.

I really don't either. For the reasons I listed. Not wanting to intrude on someone else's time/resources and lack of speciality store and ease of returns to Kohl's

2 - to use up gift cards that a family member gave for xmas last year. I think they finally got the message and I got a delivery of wine and chocolates this year instead :cheer2:

OTOH, I received a TON of deliveries for the GF, who agrees with my stance about Amazon in theory but can't quit it and orders a ton of items before she returns home for a visit :wall:

She did cease ordering during the end of year delivery persons strike, though

I was prepared to say 0 but I forgot that some people asking for charitable donations use an amazon wishlist so the number turned out to be 8 but none for me. There was a kid on @transanta asking for skates and accessories and I almost hurt myself rushing to buy everything on that list. happy skating rosa!

22, not counting a few Whole Foods groceries deliveries while sick or coming back from long stay away. Not bad, my online shopping is much more under control, especially since some of those things were weird stuff I can't get in stores (gluten-free gefilte fish?)

That's me. But Mr Mac doesn't care and our house is full of Amazon Basics that he orders. So I've kind of given up.

I understand the objections to Amazon - Bezos, putting brick and mortar stores out of business, bad employee treatment - what suggestions do you have for those of us who don't drive?

Lyft and Uber have some of the same issues - putting taxi cab employees in slow or no business - you can't always get everything at one store, malls are almost non existent (which was happening pre-covid)

People who do drive you places might be willing to take you places, but a several hour wandering or traveling different places is pretty inconsiderate of their time.

My total for 2024 was 114. I honestly thought it would be higher. Until we moved here, though, I could buy anything I wanted locally and I much prefer shopping in person so I can see what I'm buying. But now that I live at the edge of civilization and have to drive at least an hour and a half to all the major big box stores (and in the winter - forget it), my purchasing habits have changed. :p

My total went up to 36. I texted a gift card for a great nephew. I suppose I could go out and get it and mail it to him and hope I found the right game. But I didn't. He knows what he wants and he will have it in two days. Too damned convenient...

I don't order through them either. I find having to wait around in my home kinda aggravating. That's also why I always pick up my food too.

But on the occasions I do order something online for delivery, I use Costco (once this year).
