Chantastic....the return of Patrick

Is Finlandia trophy being hosted in the same arena/site as Worlds? If so - a great test event opportunity, for skaters and hosts alike. I think it's part of why Boston Worlds was so successful - their having hosted a major event (2014 US Nationals). Get the 'kinks' out.

According to the event websites, no. Worlds is being held in the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki. Finlandia is being held at the Espoo Metro Areena in Espoo. Helsinki is about half an hour from Espoo. But perhaps one of our Finnish posters can weigh in on whether it might be possible for skaters to skate at Hartwall while they're in town for Finlandia?

I don´t understand the video (i hope that anybody traslate or subtitle it ) but i love the relaxed and funny interactions between all

Skate Canada press release today: https://skatecanada.ca/2016/09/patrick-chan-announces-coaching-team/
OTTAWA, ON: Patrick Chan, 25, Toronto, Ont., will be working with a new coaching team this season. Marina Zoueva, Oleg Epstein and Johnny Johns will make up Chan’s coaching team. He will train in Canton, Michigan at the Arctic Edge Arena.
“I am excited to be working with Marina, Oleg and Johnny. They each bring so much to the table and have such a rich history of coaching world and Olympic competitors in all the disciplines. I am looking forward to the season ahead and my first event the Finlandia Trophy in just a couple weeks,” said Patrick Chan.

Interesting. I remember an article saying Gracie Gold really liked working with Marina and Oleg, which is why she was training at their rink between working with Alex and Frank. However, Gracie did not stay because Marina and Oleg did not feel they could adequately give attention demanded by a senior lady, so maybe Johnny's role is to fill in that gap with respects to Patrick.

Yeah, and they were probably VERY busy juggling and attempting to appease both V/M and D/W, during that time which was probably a full time job on its own.

There is a men's practice session tomorrow.....hopefully someone there will come here and post some observations....

Thanks shushine4you. I was hoping we would see a clip of instagram of Patrick and I wanted to know if Marina is with him. I figured she would be there(possibly) for Sinkats but they withdrew so very curious is she still came.

IFS posted the following this morning:

"Elina Passonen attended men's practice this morning and reports that things are looking comfortable with him and Marina Zoueva. Chan drew 10th for the short program which takes place Saturday afternoon at Espoo"

There is also a nice pic but I can't figure out how to copy it here (dumb dumb)...

"It has evolved into a program that I really enjoy," Chan said. "I liked it as an exhibition. I wasn't sure how it would be as a competitive program, but it really works well, and the jumps sat really well."
Chan said that switching to Zoueva and her team has provided him with a huge motivation boost.
"Marina was always very supportive, whether she was my coach or not, and I felt the support could help my skating a lot," Chan said. "She has a team of coaches as well. There are always areas -- not only technically -- that I need help in, and Marina and Oleg [Epstein] and Johnny [Johns] are really helpful when it comes to the skating and the jumps and putting it together, and just improving everything.
"Everything that skating is about and being a competitor in skating is a lot more enjoyable for me now," Chan continued. "I don't why, but I just leave my home feeling motivated and excited, which is a feeling I haven't had in a long time, and I have been competing for so many years."

The Blackbird program is beautiful. Couple of bobbles today, but considering new coaching team, first time in competition this year etc. I thought he looked great. All will be well.

Patrick's jumps just looked heavier than usual, but he technically stayed on his feet the whole time, so there's that!

One thing I always commend Patrick for is doing a proper camel/camel spin in his SP. So many skaters go for the sit/sit, and he does a well executed camel/camel instead despite a c/c not being worth more for technically being more difficult than a s/s.

Anyone know what happened to his nose during the skate?

Also, he looked happy with Marina in the K&C but not fully comfortable in there with her yet. I did kind of smile at him mostly telling her what went wrong, instead of her making the observational comments towards him.

I'm not always big on his personality in the media, but oh em gee. :swoon: that's a mesmerizing long program, Eric is a really beautiful composer and I could listen to that piece all day long. Even if he flubs it up til next Wednesday I'm going to enjoy this one all year. (y)

(Please just skate the program this season and don't give any pompous media answers about your competitors, like at all, which could potentially kill my impression of this beautiful program. :coffee: )

It's all about the beautiful skating, expression, and the music (cudos to Radford). That was absolutely mesmerizing. Hopefully, the jumps will come with some mileage as the season progresses. So happy to see him back. No one can touch his skating skills.

Agreed. Nice to see him hit those axels. And a different jump layout for the quads and so perfectly acceptable for that to take a little time for him to adjust to :) Well done Chiddy!
