Champs Camp August 18-23, 2018

I think this sums up my feelings pretty well. They were hyping for Champs Camp which implies we would get some information.

If they want it to be a private event for skaters only, they could present it as such and not, well frankly, mislead fans. Just bloody be honest, communication goes along way. Don't hype it and not deliver. Just be honest it is a media free zone, or whatever you want to call it. Just be forthcoming.

Exactly.

Perhaps follow Skate Canada's model.

Today they had a live interactive interview with Weaver & Poje, from their High Performance Camp, and posted on Facebook.

Well, we know USFS is not going to give us "dirt." The best we could hope for would be some details vetted for public consumption about new programs, coach changes over the summer, etc., maybe new elements skaters are hoping to include in their programs.

I'm remembering once ~20 years ago a friend of mine happened to talk to a top 5 US man about his new program one summer. He knew that she skated at a rink where another top 5 man was training and specifically requested that she not tell the other guy what his music was. In those days skaters didn't just want to keep their summer progress protected from the public but also from each other.

Is it a Camp for athletes to get ready for competitive season or an occasion for media coverage??? Just asking because I think we are loosing focus on what and who the camp is for.

It doesn't have to be a zero-sum game.

Marketing is something that happens alongside the substance of any venture, at least that's the way it should be.

I guess that's more or less what we're getting from Canadian High Performance Camp. Shortish video interviews with all the skaters/teams where they talk about their summer train, some info about injuries, new programs, etc. Walsh/Michaud mentioned new elements they're working on, discussed their programs and shared that they've started training with Paul MacIntosh once a week, for example. That would probably work for Champs Camp. It's on the skater's terms what they share, as opposed to people reporting on how they look. It's sort of what you're getting from the articles we've seen, but a bit more from all the athletes, and more immediate because they just post them on Youtube.

That might not satisfy everyone, but I think that wouldn't interfere with Champs Camp being about getting feedback, etc.

Well, DO let us know when you get those videos you think you deserve, Your Highness.
Report: nothing but doubles from GG during her run throughs...but she has time to improve between now and Rostelecom.
Source: The Skating Lesson, Aug 27 episode (M. Duhamel guest)...a long one, so you’ll have to listen to get the part about GG’s all-doubles program.
