Carreira/Ponomarenko Need a Cheer Thread

Z/K scored above them is ??????
Tis truly the biggest mystery of the night. They were good, and they definitely show promise, but also ???

Anyway I agree that Christina and Anthony looked really good, particularly in the first step sequence. They just look good. Hopefully they can just bring it in the free, although they got an awful draw.

Am I the only person not surprised by Z&K up so high? The USFSA has loved Shpilband for decades. He basically reshaped what ice dance looked like under IJS, knows how to train skaters to be successful in it, and helped the US earn a load of hardware for a very long time. Let's talk about all the connections Scott Moir has to the USFSA

Moir losing his time with this team he has a much more promising team in hensen and lickers.
Did you know avocados are a fruit and not a vegetable?

(non-cheer posts will now be met with random facts googling random facts because like I know I shouldn't respond but also don't want this to be the most current post on this thread)

Go Christina & Anthony have a good free dance

I wasn't expecting Z/K to beat C/P in the RD, but I'm not surprised they're right up there, given how well they've been doing in domestic competitions and how strong their score from Golden Spin was. Plus, Vadym is so talented and even beyond politics, Igor knows how to get his teams levels. They were my pick for 4th before the event.

ITA Vadym is insanely talented and going from the Golden Spin Score (not having vids from this event is such a pity) they were my pick for 4th as well (minus H&B of course)

That all may be true, but obviously those shouldn't be reasons for Z/K's scores. I know there are a lot of people who think ice dance is a fake sport and nothing but politiks and vibes, but if I believed that, I wouldn't be here. I know it's a real sport because I can see the improvements in Christina's skating. That's not the result of politiks and vibes; its hard work and good coaching.

I think Z/K are really good and thought they'd be 4th here as well, so I'm not trying to bring them down. It's just harder to understand how skating is scored when we see protocol sheets like the one released last night.

Well that was way, way closer than I wanted it to be, but they're going to 4CC at least. I felt that their RD skate was better than it was scored, and that they were overly penalized, but their PCS was still very good. 4CC is relatively low stakes for them, so I hope they can turn out their best performance of the season there and get back to work for next season.

That was close! I'm probably deslusional but I still think they're closer to Gr/P and further from Z/K than these scores would suggest. Looking forward to a low stakes international head to head with Gr/P tbh. They definitely aren't getting the worlds spot after that, but a longer off season is just more time to get stronger and come back better next year.

lol this pic is giant on here but I love it anyway

Now that 4CC trip is confirmed - I really hope they can finish out the season on a high. This is their first comp of the year where they really aren’t in medal contention and with the worlds spot off the table, I hope they can go into it with calm and confidence and just enjoy it.

I'd like for them to have two really successful skates in the RD and FD, which will set them up nicely should HawBak bow out of Worlds.

I agree. Happy to get to see these two programs again, and I hope they can get good international scores that set them up well for whatever comes next.

I also have good hopes for next season, that they can continue with the movement towards mature and difficult programs they started with this season and also that they can start the season earlier which I think will help a lot.

Also I hope Anthony gets a transformative off season like Christina had.

Also small wins here - first competition since 2020 where they didn’t get a lift deduction!!

Heyyyyyyyyy I forgot about that and that is truly something to celebrate!
Truth! As I was watching in real time, I wondered about the timing and was madly checking the live-scoring after they were done to see if the lift was marked < or clean, lol.

Funny, when you think about it - before Nats, we were kvetching about them possibly losing silver to GreenP because of a lift deduction, but it was actually bronze they would have lost had they gotten one yesterday!

I hope Piper recovers soon, but I can't say I'm unhappy that C/P will be in the final RD group. My wish for them this time is to just skate their very best-I want to see their programs skated to their potential, and I think they'll be rewarded if they do.
I've just rewatched a few of the nationals performances (time - what a healer?) and I still believe they have the best material of the US teams going to 4CC. They just need that relaxed and confident performance with the sparkle.

I truly don't think they are as behind Gr/P as nationals results would suggest. For example - the overall performance and emotion/conection in their FD is better imo. I just want the USFS to finally start backing them! (This is so minor, and probably me reading too much into things BUT the way that USFS comment on Gr/P's instagram nationals posts vs the way they do on C/P's... ?)

Learning how to compete when you're battling injury, not 100%, etc, are such important lessons to learn. If nothing else, I'm glad they've got a team behind them that can teach them how to stay in the right mental space to make the most of these moments.
