Well the Olympic season is officially here so I thought I'd start a new thread for our beloved Canadian ladies - three of whom will be skating at the Olympics next February!

Grand prix assignments were announced in May. Kaetlyn Osmond to Skate Canada and Trophée de France; Gabby Daleman to Cup of China and Skate America; and Alaine Chartrand to Skate Canada and NHK.

There's a TBD for Skate Canada. I hope it will go to whoever skates best at summer competitions. I would expect the front runners to be Larkyn Austman, Sarah Tamura, and Kim Decelles. Or maybe Veronik Mallet if she is in form (she's registered for the Quebec Summer Skate).

There are quite a few competitions listed on the international assignments page: https://skatecanada.ca/national-team/international-assignments/

I hope they send ladies to all of them!

As for the junior grand prix, Emily Bausback posted on instagram that she was assigned to JGP #5 in Croatia: https://www.instagram.com/p/BWK2JhBDsRR/?taken-by=embausback

According to the selection criteria: https://info.skatecanada.ca/hc/en-c...n-to-Jr-Grand-Prix-International-Competitions - other junior ladies slots are at JGP #1 in Brisbane, Australia; #3 in Riga, Latvia; #6 in Gdansk, Poland; and #7 in Egna (Bolzano), Italy.

If the third JGP was already assigned, I imagine the first two have already but I haven't seen anything. I would expect an early one to go to Aurora Cotop.

Seemingly contenders for JGP spots are those on the nextgen list: https://skatecanada.ca/nextgen/

Bring on the Olympic season! I think Chartrand is the favourite for the third spot, but she really needs to be more consistent this year. Not that the ones below her are that consistent either, but I want everyone to really skate for it this year and I hope there will be a real battle for the third spot!

Thanks for starting this thread, @danafan!

Michelle Long had her competition season debut this past weekend in Lake Placid: https://www.instagram.com/p/BWGxx4Zg3HN/?taken-by=themichellelong&hl=en

Alaine Chartrand registered but did not compete at Lake Placid this year - I believe she is scheduled to start her season at Minto Skate at the end of this month, along with Joanne McLeod's 3 Sr. ladies - Sarah Tamura, Megan Yim and Kelsey Wong.

Does anyone know if Alaine is still being coached by Orser? It did not say so on her Bio..Normally he is included

Larkyn Austman posted on instagram that she was training in Edmonton this past week (photos with Kaetlyn Osmond and Ravi Walia included along with some sweet jumps).

Interesting...I wonder is for an extended period of time or just for this week? I think she has some great basics in her skating and would love to see her continue to improve.

Larkyn is registered for the Wild Rose Invitational (August 4-7th) which is in Edmonton, so maybe she's staying until then.

I'm surprised that more skaters still have not moved to Ravi. The guy has done brilliant work with Katelyn, and he's a technical specialist who can work the points. AND he was one of (if not THE) first to do this spin back in the 90s.
Yes, definitely! However, think of it this way - Kaetlyn has Ravi all to herself heading into the Olympic season. Sounds good to me! Go, Kaetlyn!! :cheer2:

There's no shortage of skaters who want to work with Ravi. He runs the Ice Palace skating club which is huge - 700+ skaters (including CanSkate) in two locations.
I believe @screech is referring to this quad of Olympic-level skaters? Unless, Ravi is working w/ someone else that I am unaware of, who also appears to be headed to the Olympics? Regardless, Kaetlyn should expect to receive a good portion of his time and attention in the coming months - at least I certainly hope so! :) Either way, I would imagine that Kaetlyn's continued success will bring even more skaters into the fold. This continues to be an exciting time for Ravi, too!

Looks like her long program is going to be Swan Lake or Black Swan based on Amelie's instagram videos

While I am sure there will be a flood of people who say she does not suit this music or theme, I like what I see of the program so far. A lot. Beautiful use of her arms during the footwork sequence and finally they are highlighting those gorgeous spread eagles. We're all going to be white knuckling that last double axel at the end of the program, though aren't we?

Another view of Kaetlyn's new dress: https://www.instagram.com/p/BWV8aIdh7In/
Ravi has included the hashtag #summertime, so I gather it's her SP dress.

As a ballet fan, I'm thrilled she's going in this direction. :cheer2: Swan Lake/Black Swan will be a wonderful contrast to the sultry Summertime. I'm sure Jeff is going to create a stunning program for her.

I think the dress will be very pretty when it's all finished. And Nikolai Morozov likes it too apparently.

Even though Osmond is probably at least four years too old for him . . . run Kaetlyn run!!!

It wouldn't surprise me if he switches it up with older ones every once in a while, so I echo the sentiment of "run Kaetlyn run!" And maybe change the dress too just for good measure. Even if it is a nice dress.
