Canadian Ice Dance 2016-17 season news & updates

I'm interested to see Arnold/Williams's Downton Abbey program. I'd been wondering if anyone would ever use that music! Also interesting to read that Arnold dabbled just a bit with speed skating. You don't hear that too often!

So so so sad.:wuzrobbed Glad I saw what little I could for one year, and best of luck in the future!

And loving Asher's sense of humor:
"Through dedication and hard work I have been able to achieve so much in this beautiful sport. I've made lifelong friends, travelled the world, gained invaluable life experiences, priceless memories, and a posterior that can’t find pants that fit";:D

Asher definetly wins the big prize when it comes to skating booties for sure.

Nicole's right when she says the partnership was much too short. :wuzrobbed But I'll always be grateful they at least did the one year and gave us a wonderful free dance (please please tell me a good copy of Canadian Nats exists on YouTube since my PVR got deleted!) Best of luck to them in the future.

New teams as per the Championnats québécois d'été competitors list: Vanessa Chartrand / Alexander Seidel (senior), Gina Cipriano / Jake Richardson (junior), Emily Mikulcik / Malcolm Kowan (junior), and Natascha Collier / Philippe Marchand (junior). Aya Takai and Dominic Barthe are entered as seniors; Kaitlyn Moshang and Simon-Pierre Malette-Paquette as juniors. It also looks as though Alessia Hart-Lewis and Jacob Richmond have split (he has a new partner, Jessica Li, and they are entered in novice), as have Sara Marier and Jeffrey Wong (he also has a new partner, Sophia Simitsakos, and they are entered in junior). Someone who is a bit more well-versed in Canadian dance (I don't always keep a close eye on the lower levels) may want to take a second look. :D

Paradis/Ouellette are not register for Quebec summer competition

No, but neither are Hubbell & Donahue who went last season. And there are already at least three teams from D&L's camp there. So maybe spread the wealth & at least give their teams a chance to podium at their season openers. Also, not a great idea to pit Paul & Islam and Paradis & Ouellette head to head right off the bat.

I didn't realize Sales & Wamsteeker were moving up into seniors this season. They are listed as seniors for the Quebec summer competition. (I guess she has aged out of juniors). A shame since they almost qualified for Junior Worlds last year. I enjoyed them on the JGP.

Yes, Sales is already 19. I liked them a lot at Nationals last year, though IIRC they had a mistake on a lift(?) in their FD. She switched to dance late & I believe he took some time off, so it's impressive that they made so much progress in two seasons, but I wish they had another season to develop in juniors.

I like Weaver & Poje--and have always liked Weaver & Poje--because they stand out from all the other Canadian teams. They have a different style. Different strengths. Kaitlyn is one of only two human beings on the planet that I have ever felt could skate up to Roxanne. She has some of the strongest abs in the sport. Their speed, when they skate free, is great. And they can skate with intricacy while maintaining that speed. They have chemistry. They can pull off the drama.

They have something to contribute to Canadian ice dance.
Agree completely. I LOVE Kaitlyn's competitive fire and her performance execution is always 100%. I buy what she's selling every time out!

I don't know Sales, but from what I have heard she is an extremely hard worker. With so many teams retired or split that hard work may pay off this year. I sure hope it does!

Does anyone know the status of Poulin & Servant as I don't see them listed on Quebec Summer skate. Would hate for ANOTHER team to have gone kaput after Orford & Hill and the rumored split of Paradis & Ouellette.

Sorry to tell you :slinkaway.... another one that went Kaput!!

I'm not sure they would have done Quebec anyway even continuing; last year they did Thornhill since they were training at Scarboro. But indications from their social media seem to point to their being done there anyway.

It would be nice if these skaters with some following would announce retirements for one or both partners, the way Orford/Hill did. There's a right to privacy, but when it's over I think it's nice for fans to have some sense of conclusion and for skaters to be able to hear that they'll be missed and wished well for the future.

Sorry to hear that.

With all the splits and retirements, will there even be 10 senior teams at Canadians this year!?!?
