Canadian Championships to return to Ottawa - Jan. 6-13, 2022

It definitely sounds like the concessions at TD Place will not be able to open. Which is fine for a 2 hour concert, or 3 hour hockey game, but as @luckiest1 has pointed out, not reasonable when you’re spending 12 hours in the arena. Allowing spectators to bring in snacks and beverages might be an option, although where they could be consumed could be an issue since I imagine the point of the restriction is to ensure everyone keeps their masks on at all times while indoors. Maybe add the requirement that you have to go outside to eat/drink?

I am planning on bringing food and drinks and on leaving them in my sister's car. I did that at another event to save money and eat ealthier But that only works if you have a car to begin with, so clearly not an option for all.

For those who don't know the city, there is a Whole Foods 2 minutes away from TD Place (within the Lansdowne Complex/Park area, entrance is on Bank street).

That’s what I told my mom to do at her work Christmas coffee break yesterday.

I said “don’t take off your mask and if you have to eat or drink, go to the bathroom.”

It would be great if they designated an area to eat things brought from home. I can’t exactly tell my 86 year old mom to go outside or eat in the bathroom

Something else to note is that there is a restriction on how late restaurants can serve food. If you have a car or a place where you can eat, you could order take out from one of the restaurants in the area and pick it up during a break in the schedule.

• Bars and restaurants and meeting and event spaces and strip clubs that serve food and drink like a restaurant will be required to close by 11 p.m. Take out and delivery will be permitted beyond 11 p.m.

Since the City of Ottawa restrictions are only going into effect after midnight tonight, I would suggest that we all take a deep breath or two and await further information as logistics are worked out.

My current snark is that the tickets are "mobile" and I received the links for my all-event tickets yesterday - I'm supposed to load them all onto the smart phone that I don't own!! I've e-mailed the box office asking for more information but no reply so far...

Since the City of Ottawa restrictions are only going into effect after midnight tonight, I would suggest that we all take a deep breath or two and await further information as logistics are worked out.

My current snark is that the tickets are "mobile" and I received the links for my all-event tickets yesterday - I'm supposed to load them all onto the smart phone that I don't own!! I've e-mailed the box office asking for more information but no reply so far...

Oh, I HATE mobile tickets! What if one gets to the ticket-checker and the power runs out of your cellphone?

I don't think they are going to cancel here. Ottawa has a high vaccination rate to begin with and the booster appointment bookings has had an overwhelming response here. I just got mine this morning.

The whole idea is that people don't remove their masks while indoors. They will be strict about the mandate. All arenas were last time.

You can print the QR Code if having it available on you phone doesn't work for you. You just have to present the QR Code, not just a letter. This applies for restaurants too.

At the rate we are going though, we very well might be locked down by that point. They are talking of closing the schools for the month of January.

It's not cheap, but your $ will be very well spent.

Yes one of my favourite spa's but their thermal baths have closed - just massages available - which you can get anywhere - the best part are the thermal baths and such a beautiful setting. Quebec is basically locked down - Ontario (which Ottawa is) is still open but a 50% capacity so the championship should be okay unless the local public health authorities require it to close.

I agree with this! I haven't been to Ottawa since the renovations started, but there are also lots of statues and memorials on the Parliament Buildings grounds that are really interesting. The view of the river from behind the buildings is wonderful.

Another good place to get a great view of the buildings is from the plaza outside the National Gallery, further down Sussex Drive.

No, unfortunately not. The last caretaker retired and volunteers took over but finally they asked for it to be closed. The cats were all adopted out to good homes. As much as it was a very unique shelter and a huge tourist attraction I'm glad they found warmer homes.

You can print out your QR code - that's what I've done so far.

Regarding Coal - his caretaker brought him to an annual blessing of the animals service at Christ Church Cathedral a couple of years ago. I had visited the cat colony on numerous occasions over the years and it was nice to "meet" one of the survivors up close
