Really terrible. I agree the doping culture is not yet fixed and now it looks like no rio for anyone as this is very bad for everyone and shows no progress in Russia and I think Russia will be totally banned from all sports for a while.

Well, the drug's name is Милдронат (Mildronat). http://mildronat.ru/ru/mildronat - you can buy it in any drugstore with doctor's prescription. I used it when I was treated against insomnia (didn't help, btw).
Katya says usually she was very careful about her injections. Her doctor gave her actovegin vials and she handed them over to Dr Shverdsky, team doctor. First injection was made by this doctor before the Short Dance, Katya saw him opening her capsules with her own eyes, but next day, when she asked doctor to come back to hotel, when she came to take injection he was waiting her with full syringe, she didn't see what capsule he used for this syringe. She decided to let it slip because doctor was in a hurry - he needed to go back to the rink

Who exactly are you accusing and of what? If you are making statements like this you need to have some facts to back it up. Otherwise keep them to yourself, and don't start rumors.

Sorry, I have no sympathy to people who make up stories.

Looks like Dmitri is of Coco's opinion.

It makes no sense whatsoever for Bobrova to knowingly ruin her own chances right before Worlds.

... I don't know, but it appears to me Russian athletes and/or the Russian Federation have no problem with cheating. Its part of their culture.

It is absolutely a fact, that in Russian society last 75+ years, people are inclined to "by-pass" existing laws/circumstances/conditions, and it is cultural to seek "creative or alternative solutions" to what i loosely call "a big NO from Big Brothers". It's common practice in countries/cultures where laws and rules "don't make sense", as it was in a Socialist System or in any system where a group of people or the whole population feels that "NO-to-something" is an infringement on their lives/rights. Prohibition of alcohol, drugs, religious and other personal choice practices..... But in this case, Bobrova was not cheating, she mistakenly thought her actions/choices were with in the law. And, given how often we hear of doping issues world-wide, Russia hardly stands out, unless media makes it "stand out".

I think your аптека (pharmacy) is pulling your leg. You don't need doctor's prescription for Милдорант. You can buy them on line, if you scan and email or fax "doctor's note"... which can be anything.

Of course it means a ban, and the end of their career - they'll be away for too long and will have too much ground to make up. Poor Bobrova and Soloviev.

I'm not a fan of the mandatory minimum approach to banned substance offenses, whether these involve illegal drugs or doping offenses. I think that extenuating circumstances should be considered; it's more just and more effective than slapping the same sanction on everyone. And yes, WADA needs to do a better job of communicating these sort of updates. How many substances are on the banned substance list these days anyway?

Get ready for S/K to get a scoring boost. They'll be Euro medalists, clearly they deserve it :scream:
It can't be rocket science. . If you are taking something you dang well better keep an eye out on the banned substance list. . Geesh!
These are world class athletes. . Absent a heart condition what was she taking it for? Thus the problem. . If it was to enhance her strength and muscle recovery... She was pretty dumb. .

I will never ever support S&B (or anyone associated with TAT) if what Dmitri suggests is true

Wait, did Dmitri suggest that S/B and TAT had something to do with it?

No. I just read between the lines. In whose interest would it be to "shut [them] up not on the ice rink in a fair fight" and who would have the power to do so?

Are you referring to what he said on instagram?
https://www.instagram.com/p/BCqKsNjnWcx/

All he said is that Bobrova wouldn't make such a mistake. And never had I insinuated that she did. How does that equate to the doctor being bribed conspiracy theory of Coco's?

For all we know he is referring to Wada conspiracy. It's not specific.

If we are talking conspiracies, it could be international rivals, not internal...
But we don't know for sure right?

Why is this substance even illegal? It sounds like it's some sort of treatment for the respiratory system?

Also, are there ever exceptions to these banned substances? Like if someone has bad asthma, it's common to take an inhaled cortico steroid to control the symptoms. Or if you have ADHD, the most commonly prescribed medications are stimulants, so if an athlete was in school and took medication for class/homework/studying or even driving, it would be in their systems even if they didn't take it before training.

Are people with medical conditions simply forced to find alternative substances for treatment? I didn't realize how many items were on that list...

This is so sad. Their FD to anna Karenina is my fav this season.

It's like athletes need to film/document everything when it comes to medicin for them to have proof ifand when needed. If injection was given by a doctor I think he is the main responsible person and not the athlete. The doctor should be updated and know what is ok and what isnt.

I have a very hard time believing Bobrova would try something illegal so close to next OG. They have not been competing for such a long time and is definitely in need of competitions again so nop very sad this is.

I hope to see them again perhaps after 1 year or so, hopefully no longer ban due to the circumstances.

As usual, Over the top post. "Russia will be totally banned from all sports"? Because One of their athletes failed a drug test? "No progress in Russia"? You are essentially accusing every athlete in Russia through your post, which is extremely unfair to all the talented athletes there, including Olympic champions, and IMO it's unfair to Bobrova also to say that because of her failed drug test her whole country will be banned from "ALL sports".

It's never a good idea to draw conclusions without knowing all the facts.

Neither Bobrova not Dmirti suggested that they did not know the drug was banned or that they would knowingly take it (because they knew full well it was banned).

They're no competition to foreign teams for Worlds/Olympic medals. It would make no sense for WADA to pick on them specifically for no reason. If there is a conspiracy, Russian athletes are the only ones who would benefit from B&S' 2-year ban.

The suggestion is the doctor was in a hurry and already had a syringe full of liquid Bobrova didn't see the label of.

If you read my post my problem with Coco's post was that he/she suggested bribery. A doctor making a mistake is entirely possible, and it's wouldn't be a conspiracy as that happens by accident.

BTW, B&S were competitive for bronze.
I am not pointing the finger at anyone, but if we are talking conspiracies...

See how easy it is to cast doubt?

There are known huge problems within Russian sport surrounding doping, to the extend that Russia is currently banned from competing in athletics. The testing lab in Moscow where the Russian anti-doping program is based seems to be completely corrupt. Systemic problems have so far only been fully revealed in athletics, but it's not a complete leap of logic to have questions about the state of other sports, especially considering that the whistleblowers in Russian athletics said that the pressure to dope came from the sports officials, not from rogue athletes.

Regarding Bobrova, it could easily have been a mistake, or administered without her knowing, but she has been an elite athlete for years and she knows that she is responsible for what she puts in her body. Not her usual doctor and she didn't see him open the medication - she should have just refused the injection.

I just bumped up the relevant thread in the Other Sports forum with an article that was published today: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/ind...g-corruption-review.96876/page-6#post-4732692

But Dmitri doesn't seem to think it was a mistake. He specifically said people are trying to shut them up in an unfair fight.

I doubt W&P, P&C, C&L, C&B or the Shibs or any of their federations would single out Bob/Sol to shut out in that race for Worlds/Olympic Gold. That would make no sense

And I hate to say this, but: "Someone spiked my cornflakes/toothbrush/cough medicine/injection" is the second standard doping excuse MO. The first one being "I didn't know it was banned". I don't know anything here and I have trouble even formulating things in a way that doesn't make too many assumptions in any directions, but saying that Bobrova can't be responsible because she's nice in interviews/gives to charity etc. has no logic either. Same for "this proves all Russian athletes cheat". I don't know these people. I don't know what happened. I doubt anyone on this forum does either.

seems like another case of: you better get someone to inform the athletes better about wada updates (if they are not able to do it by themselves :drama:)

According to this article from a swimming site, the Russian anti-doping agency did send out a notice to their athletes on Jan 1 when the ban took effect, so no one should be claiming ignorance as an excuse.

https://swimswam.com/blood-flow-drug-meldonium-added-to-wadas-banned-substances-list/

More damning to me is that this drug has been on WADA's monitored drug list for longer than that, and athletes really should have stopped using it back then. WADA suspected it was being used for performance enhancement and monitored its presence to determine how widely it was being abused.

Bottom line is that, when there is not legitimate medical necessity, anyone using this drug was trying to gain a chemically-aided advantage, and is, basically, a cheater. In addition to the specifically listed products and procedures, the WADA antidoping code does include some broad prohibitions on artificial methods designed to boost performance, so pretending anything is OK unless/until it finally makes the expressly prohibited list is kind of lying to yourself and to everybody else. That list is only a portion of the anti-doping code.
