Alysa Liu cheer/fan thread

Just uploaded on “the official Korean account of the Olympic Games” - Alysa’s gala performance to ITZY’s “Loco”! https://www.instagram.com/tv/CaoKNb5jgol/
It was a joy watching Alysa having a blast at the Olympic games! And I especially enjoyed her Itzy "Loco" exhibition program! Many thanks must go to Jean-Luc for his on the spot choreo, Olivia Smart for loaning Alysa the dress, and to everyone who helped her put this now quite popular number together! And speaking of choreo, imo, with a bit of tweaking around, I believe that Alysa could work this number into a competitive SP! Minus the butt spin of course! :D

OMG! Could that kid be any cuter? It was like watching old time figure skating. Loved it.

She is such a talent! So proud of her. Definitely the future of US womens skating, especialy as she has already gone through most of puberty and survived it intact.
Unfortunately I don’t think she’s the future. I think she’s done. She’s been vocal about how the Olympics this year were her goal. She hasn’t seemed happy in the sport for some time. She has no coaching team at this point and wants to go to college. Given she seems to crave a more normal life my guess is she will want a traditional college experience. Maybe she will compete another year. Hopefully her results this year gave her love and motivation back.

That's kind of a downer view for the cheer thread. I read she does not plan to go to college next year. She said she didn't get her applications in time. She also said she's happy with her Bay area coach, Philip.

I'm so proud of Alysa for winning a well deserved bronze at Worlds! She was terrific at the Olympics too! As a fan, I am saddened by Alysa's decision to retire so very young. But if Alysa is happy, that is all that is important! Part of my urgency to see her on the Stars On Ice tour is that I'm not sure she'll tour again! Same reason with Nathan! I wasn't blessed with seeing either on competitive ice, but I was determined to see them perform - and last night at the Hertz Arena I was not disappointed! All of my best wishes for Alysa in all of her future endeavors! 💖💖💖⛸⛸

Alysa deleted everything off of her Instagram and is no longer following anyone. I admire that she never really played the game and tried to build her brand but I also always worry about her and her mental health. I hope she got enjoyment out of her career and that she finds joy and peace in whatever comes next.

Alysa is still very young. She has a long way to go to adulthood and will have many more experiences along the way that will shape her life. Social media is not necessarily healthy. I’m glad we had no such thing when I was 16. I hope she has a wonderful future, whatever it holds.

Anyone else getting hyped for Alysa this season? She has been coming up quite a few times on my youtube recommendations and she is just so joyous. I hope she achieves whatever goals she has for the future! She posted a triple lutz/triple salchow sequence a few weeks ago on her instagram!

Alysa skating to The Planets looks like on June 1 according to the uploader.
Thank you to @YukiNieve who originally shared her Alysa fan cam video in post #86 of this GSD thread (https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...ice-shows-benefits.111676/page-3#post-6601650), as well as to @Poptarts for this cell phone video in post #83:

It was so fun seeing her again!
Good to see her getting 2 Grand Prix assignments (#2 Skate Canada Int'l & #4 NHK Trophy) yesterday as a comeback skater! :)

Loved Alysa's Instagram post today about her involvement in a public transportation project in San Francisco:

" Muni riders will hear the recording of Alysa Liu, an Olympic figure skater and U.S. national champion, welcoming them back on the L Taraval train
😊
"

And on reopening day of L Taraval line, Alysa gave comments (in English) aboard a moving train for Chinese-language news reports:

Cross-posting the link to Alysa's This Week in Skating podcast episode (Oct. 6, 2024) here and in her GSD news thread:
After stepping away from the sport two years ago, 2022 World bronze medalist Alysa Liu will return to international competition this week at Budapest Trophy. Then in a few weeks, she will compete at Skate Canada International, her first Grand Prix event since 2021. Alysa joined Daphne, Gina and Matteo to talk about what's she been up to, why she decided to return to skating and what she hopes to accomplish in her comeback.

Fan Zone article by Darci Miller before Alysa competes in Budapest this week (also posted in her GSD news thread):
Excerpts:
She spent lots of time with friends and family. She enrolled in UCLA, where she plans to go into psychology. She dabbled in other sports that skating had prevented her from trying, like skiing, and particularly enjoyed volleyball, basketball and tennis. She got into fashion, photography and dance, and explored Los Angeles, trying new cafes.
Ironically, it was her skiing experience that made her miss the skating career she thought she'd given up forever.
"At the very start of this year, I went skiing for the first time," Liu said. "And I hadn't felt that adrenaline rush, I guess, since I'd quit skating. It feels so similar to skiing. And so after I skied, I was like, 'Wait, let me get on the ice and see what it feels like.'
"At this point, I still wasn't planning to return. I just wanted to skate again because I hadn't stepped on the ice since I last got off for my last show. I just wanted to get back on and see how skates felt, the whole thing. That first session, I tried the double Axel, and I could do it. I was like, 'Oh.'"
She's also been enjoying skating as an adult for the first time, as she turned 19 in August.
"I really am the one deciding for myself what to do," Liu said. "I get to make my own schedule, which is nice. I drive myself to the rink, or I take the train, and I get to pick my session times, pick my lesson times. It's all revolved around what I want to do, which I personally like. I get to decide what I want to wear to the rink, and which rinks I want to go to – all that. It's liberating."
And having more life experience has given Liu a new perspective on her skating career.
"I definitely see skating as something more of a hobby," said the Bay Area skater. "I'm kind of taking it less seriously than before. Not in an, 'Oh, I'm not going to train as hard' kind of way, but it's not my whole life. It's just one of the hobbies I have, so I guess, in that way, I can really enjoy it. I'm not taking it too personally. Truly, it's just for fun."
Liu said her goal for this season is just to get back out there, compete internationally and do her best. She plans to stay in school while skating and is taking her return to competition one season at a time – no pressure.
Even just the one season is like a bonus, considering she never thought she'd be doing this again.

I'm back to posting relevant links in Alysa's fan thread instead of the one in GSD.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Laufey, who sings Alysa’s short program, “Promise” she has such a great voice, and here’s some articles about her where she was at the Hollywood bowl recently.
