2026 Olys Team Event PBP Day 3 - When Your Bum Hits the Ice and Your Legs In the Sky - That's Errore!

I do admire Gubanova`s grit. So many times she`s come into the free. I can see her mind "I do this or I`m out". And, she`s done it on a few occasions.

Little worried about Amber. She didn`t fall apart as other`s have said. But she was slow throughout and it took all she had to get through her elements. Not much performance in it. Hoping that now that she has experience and Damon on her side she can do better next week.

I'm with you in the minority. And this program is super-flat when she's not clean & selling the heck out of it.

Nope. She's already throwing out excuses about this being her first time on Olympic ice in the backstage interview with Andrea Joyce. For all the folks who are dying for the geriatric ice dancers to retire, I'm looking forward to Amber the headcase hanging up her competitive skates at the end of this season.

Harsh. A lot of us love her journey.

One just has to listen to her teammates talk about her to know what a sweetheart Amber is. It probably was too much pressure for her, but I am really proud of her for recovering. Anyone gleeful she wasn’t perfect because she spoke up for her community—that says more about them than it will ever say about our girl.

To be fair though Russia has won a few already ;)
That's true, but Gubanova would never, ever have made the Olympics if she was skating for Russia. I've had a real soft spot for her since she was a junior and I'd be thrilled for her to end her career with an Olympic medal. She has no chance in the individual event unlike the pairs and even an outside possibility for Egadze, but what happens, happens.

She scored scored higher than Mirai Nagasu who had a clean triple axel and much better spins. She should be happy. I am sure if Mirai could have had a double axel seq and would have have probably have a higher score but still.
Let's not forget that in 2018 the GOE was still a +3 to -3 range compared to now with the +5 to -5 range.

Advance congratulations to Japan for best skating and team spirit

I guess the only way for the US to come out ahead is for the men to finish

1. Malinin
2. Somebody not Sato
3. Sato

I have opted to step away from the commentary here to just watch the skating and keep track of the scores, etc. via the Olympics site.

Some of you take all the joy out of things with your comments :(

I just popped in briefly to confirm my expectations and am gone again!

To the Amber skeptics who say her programs are flat or her skating does nothing. Sometimes it’s more than just music and jumps.

Her ability to inspire and represent a marginalized community and her heart for caring for others is worth more than a 150+ FS.

Perhaps the negative Nancy’s are leaning into their conservative values to disqualify how much of an ambassador she is on and off the ice.

When the vast majority of people like a person, you have to ask yourself, what’s wrong with those who don’t.

So……NBC is replaying Ilia’s SP from the team event? Where’s his fluff piece? Kaori got Kobe beef, after all!

Wasn’t that a different scoring system? In 2018, there wasn’t a +/-5 GOE scale.

I’m not conservative. I’m here because I like figure skating. I’m sure she’s a great person but I’m allowed to not like her skating.

USA and Japan are tied. Malinin just needs to beat Shun, even if they're 4th and 5th. Canada handed the US that gold medal by stepping out of that throw jump, basically (because Shun isn't beating Ilia even if Ilia implodes, which I doubt he will)

Welp the conventional arm chair skating wisdom (and podcasters) was Amber short, Alysa free. (Mine was Alysa and Isabeau but we know that wasn’t up for debate). But who knows what went on behind the scenes to arrive at the reverse. Sending a nervy skater to do a free skate first time on Olympic ice in a very very high pressure situation…a gamble that didn’t completely pay off. But it has made this an incredibly nail biting, nerve wracking event. Incredibly edge of the seat stuff! Like Ashley said, great TV!
