These first few skates are not exactly waking me up.

ETA: Okay, I stand corrected, this German kid Leon Rojkov was actually a big jump up (no pun intended) in technical quality, in spite of one mistake. And now Zhao even better overall!

This Spanish kid (Zapata) has tons of charisma.

Techno rock (Rudenko, SVK) is not a good choice IMO for a skater who is a tad rough and sloppy. Just increases the sensation that everything is out of control.

Beautiful 3A by Leon! Unfortunately this was followed by a 2Lz+3T so qualifying for the FS will be tough.

Zhao competed in a Challenger Series comp. this past fall - fell on his 3A but quality skating, yes. IIRC, Mark mentioned Jean-Luc Baker choreographed his SP?

71.06 into 1st (just over 1 point from his ISU PB/SB of 72.41 at the Olympics).

Hiro Kaewtathip, 15, just started landing 3A this season, IIRC. Although he turned out of the jump in his SP today, he landed it cleanly his Bavarian Open SP in late January (won the silver behind Grayson Long).

I had to miss a few skaters earlier so I went back to watch Yu-Hsiang Li during the break. Very happy to see him skate (mostly) clean here again, I was really impressed with him at the Olympics! I hope he does well in the long here as well.

I'm back from my walk and ready to watch some men. Looks like I need to go back and watch Yu-Hsiang Li. Will be sure to do that. Wow ... still so many skaters to go. I honestly have no idea how the judges keep everything straight in judging this number of skaters. Glad I'm not on the panel.

Lucius showing good improvement in his skating skills and presentation since I saw him at summer comps. Still needs to work on spin positions. Hopefully he continues his trajectory. He has a lot of potential.

Happy to see Yefymenko's reaction when he saw his score and his qualification.

Kazanecki's program petered out just a bit at the very end on his final spin, but overall that was very nice. With some more maturity and improvement on the spins, that program could be very nice. I hope he does well in the long!
