2026 CDN Jr./Sr. Sectionals/Challenge & Skate Canada Trophy

Sigh....John Kim down on both quads. Such a talented skater who continues to struggle in competition. A good triple axel though.

To be fair Messings spins are better than Wesley and his speed and his performance level. I find Wesley a bit of a bland skater, I keep waiting for him to develop more performance qualities in his skating, but great job technically.

Anyone watch the two pairs?

Miyu Yunoki / Tristan Taylor were new to me and they had a great 3LTh and good lifts. Individual jumps seem to be their weakness but Miyu was so happy with her performance and their score, I can’t help but root for them from now on.

Lia Cho is certainly an exciting skater. In general, I really enjoyed junior ladies.
The young women on the podium were all exceptional and yes Lia is exceptional. What really stood out for me was the maturity and elegance of their skates for being so young.

(Regarding Keegan) That part of the music is still there, but it's like they edited it somehow so that the particular "R.O.C.K. in the USA" words are no longer comprehensible like they were before.
I actually left a message about it on Keegan's insta way back after his first comp (that one down in Florida?), and no doubt other people did too, so I guess he got the memo.

Up next on this rink - the Sr. RD:

Fabbri/Ayer are withdrawn from senior dance. I guess we'll have to wait for nationals for the head to head versus Lauriault/LeGac.

Wow Urban and Beaumount with no value for their choreo sequence. !! in the live scoring. I have no idea why but considering recent events in ice dance judging....I wonder if that's what Carol Lane is looking at on her phone in the kiss and cry.

Pretty good outing for Bash/Perr, though it looked like they almost drifted into each other on the second set of twizzles. Air drums and air guitar are a nice touch. Into 3rd with 61.06.

Kor/Mac have the first Mambo No. 5 of the season, to the best of my knowledge. Again, it seems like the lesser-known teams were the ones who got the most creative!

And Foroglou-Gadoury/Anderson have "Man, I Feel Like a Woman"/"Achy Breaky Heart"/"Cotton-Eyed Joe."

Replace Cotton-Eyed Joe with a true '90s country song like Watermelon Crawl or Chattahoochee and we'd be in business. ;)

Shiryaeva should have a bye due to her SCI assignment but is choosing to skate here. So there should be 14 spots for nationals.
Interesting she went for the combo in the second half, I'm not sure if that was planned. Did did fall on the triple flip triple toe but still has a strong tech score in the box, 34.03. We'll see about reviews.

Yikes Brezen opened with a surely downgraded triple flip, then had a wonky double axel. But she eked out a triple lutz double toe combo later. Still skating with her trademark smile though! A nice program though to we've only just begun. The lutz is showing up as under rotated. She has probably dug herself a huge hole here. Hopefully she can rebound in the free tomorrow.
