Loved novice Cora Corrothers short program at Midwesterns. Batman remix music. Wonderful expression. Great costume. Fun energy.

Protocols: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2025/34253/SEGM016.html

3T+3T: Thomas Chen 58.88 5th
Only 3A attempt in event (landed on toepick -0.8): Misha Ivanchenko 55.74 6th
#2 to skate Alvin Luu had the funniest kiss & cry. :D

Junior Women SP in progress: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2025/34253/CAT013SEG017.html
Annabelle Wilkins leads with 51.88 - 3Lo, 3Lz(turnout)+2T, 2A. Jiaying Johnson had a rough jumping day: 2A, 3T+3T fall, 3Lo fall.

Great Defying Gravity program by Stella Vajda in Novice Mids. Loved how the music was instrumental for most of it with just the vocals coming in for the end. So well performed and matched her energy to the music. Loved it…and her kiss & cry reaction along with her coach. 2nd place!

Mia Smith impressed too. Did she do a triple flip/triple toe?! Solid jumping for the most part…lots of potential. 103.75! 1st!

My other new fav Corra Corruthers finished 12 and seemed not as expressive in her Les Miz free and more nervous than her short. But I still like her skating very much!

Jessica Jurka 57.26 (3Lz+3T<, 2A, 3Lo) leads Angela Shao 53.60 (3Lz fall/no combo, 2A, 3Lo) after the Junior Women SP: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2025/34253/CAT013SEG017.html

Poor Alvin Luu, that was rough but I'm glad he took it in good spirits. Everything was looking good up until that borderline-comedic fall / refall on his StSq. The height on Misha's 3A is impressive. He's getting closer and closer to a positive GoE on it.

... Max Lake 157.34 (has landed 3A & 4T).
Today in SP: 4T+2T, 3A... double flip (sigh). Max Lake in k&c: "Sorry, Goku! Don't overthink, folks!" Jon Cassar laughs.

ETA:

Monaco: 3F+3T, 2A, 3Lo (with Kori Ade who looked happy) - 66.47
Shinohara: 3A had it, then fell, 3Lz(hand)+3T fell out, 3F. 61.87

Martynov (with his father here): 4T looked good! 3Lz+3T, 3A couldn't hold landing and flipped out of it. 83.17

Kovar: 3Lo, 3A smooth, 3T+3T. With Gambill & his mother. 79.59

Liu: 3F+2T, 3T fall, 1A argh. Alexander showed good humor in the k&c with his 2 coaches.

Elano (kept his poignant program to "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" from last season): 3A :cheer:, Rippon 3Lz+3T & 3F with both arms up. Lots of loud cheers from the audience. :) With Jeremy Allen & Tommy Steenberg. He was hoping for 80 in the k&c and he got it! 82.66 2nd

As much as I love Sonja Hilmer, I think the tech panel gave her a pass on both of her SP triples being called full rotated. That knee slide into the 2A was absolutely out of this world however, and her tap dance step sequence was the only "tap dance" sequence I've ever seen on ice which actually captures the excitement of tap. :swoon:

Nemorovsky's jumps were incredible. I don't necessarily agree with her blowing everyone else out of the water in PCS though.

I really liked Logan's program and her presentation. I don't recall her as being super consistent though, so will be interested to see how she holds up in the free.

Does anyone know who sang the cover of "Paint it Black" that Emma Nigrelli did? She looks very tall for a singles girl, and she didn't have great difficulty, but that program was so well constructed and interesting. Not sure I've ever seen a single skater start with her layback spin!

I have a soft spot for Brooke Gewalt and her retro music. She'd have been a star in the 1990s.

Aww Thomas Chen was so emotional after his free skate and realizing he qualified in junior men!

Mids Junior Men final standings (a deep, talented field!): https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2025/34253/CAT012SEG023.html

GOLD Louis Mallane 190.06 (123.73 in FS) - 7 triples landed (only his final 3F received - GOE due to an edge warning); coach here is Jon Cassar of LA Elite Ice
SILVER Alek Tankovic 177.77 (116.82) - 3rd in FS because tiebreaker is PCS in FS; coach is Tammy Gambill (he used to be with Aren Nielsen in the Atlanta area)
BRONZE Thomas Chen 175.70 (116.82) - 2nd in FS; lots of raw emotion in the k&c with coach Benjamin Miller
PEWTER Joshua Snyder 175.06 (113.96) - 1st time qualifying :) coach is Daniel Palmeri who I remember as a Mids competitor!
Marlo Rosen 173.44 (109.73) - 2nd straight year he finishes in 5th :(

Yes, I wondered about Sonja's triples, too. Like you, I really appreciate what she does so well in that fun SP, including her reverse spinning! :)

I don't necessarily agree with her blowing everyone else out of the water in PCS though.
Emilia Nemirovsky looks really fast/powerful on my screen, compared to the rest of the field?

I really liked Logan's program and her presentation. I don't recall her as being super consistent though, so will be interested to see how she holds up in the free.
Yes, Logan had a very tough JGP in Italy so it was encouraging to see her skate so well in the SP!

I have a soft spot for Brooke Gewalt and her retro music. She'd have been a star in the 1990s.
Me too!

You made me go back and look ;) - singer is Ciara (from The Last Witch Hunter film soundtrack) - this cover version has been quite popular in figure skating.

Current top 2 in other sections:
E3 Erica Machida 165.40
E4 Michelle Lee 147.48

ETA: I only listed 2 above because I assumed Alexa G. would end up in the "next best scores" group.
