2025 U.S. Sectional Singles & Pairs/Ice Dance Finals - Ogden UT; Norwood MA; Plano TX

I’m cooking dinner, so I’m sure I missed a an element or two, but I really liked Alec Tanković skating. I just listened to a podcast about the song Wind of Change. There’s a theory that the CIA had a hand in The Scorpions writing that song and encouraging the breakdown of the Soviet Union.

What a great way to end the night - Lorenzo Elano skated to "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables (Lez Miz), sung by Eddie Redmayne, and really emoted well to the music - jumps: Rippon 3Lz+3T, 2A, 3F all confidently landed! Tommy Steenberg choreographed both of his programs.

73.04 !!! He and his coaches - Denise Myers, Jeremy Allen & Steenberg - are delighted! :)

Jr. Women's FS has an 11:40 a.m. CT start time which is 12:40 ET but all Peacock is showing is "coverage will begin shortly". Kind of strange that Peacock hasn't gone live yet.

Running about 8 minutes behind schedule but the first group is on the ice now.

The Intermediate Women's FS (results now edited in above) finished a bit late.

"The competition here is crazy!" says a smiling Milana Gasnikova in the kiss & cry (first skater).

Megha Siripurapu is skating to a piano version of the Interstellar film's main theme - a very popular music choice among skaters this season!

ETA: Yesterday Kori Ade (looking good! :)) and Rob Peal were with Isabel Cooper (R&J FS musci mashup by Korzeniowski/Prokofiev/"O Verona" to end) - and again today.

Madeline Benson skated to the 2 most popular songs ("Young & Beautiful" and "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody") from The Great Gatsby OST while Mathew Gates was with his Novice dance team in the other rink.

Let's go Grace & Luke Fischer! Coached by Ben Agosto - music begins with disco "Hot Stuff... then Bee Gees' "You Should Be Dancing" to end. Katherine Hill joins them today in the k&c. Adrienna Lenda was also there so Natalia Annenko-Deller was the one who sat with Ben yesterday (wasn't sure). Into 1st! 67.42 FD, 112.72 total.

ETA: Estelle Schwab (former pair skater with her brother) skated to "Le Jazz Hot" (Julie Andrews), coached by Benjamin Miller & Molly Oberstar.

Cianin & Brysin Rudedenman are skating to "Numb (Slowdown Mix)" by HiNa & Concert Pine. Their sister Caylin is not with the 4 siblings here - Russ Scott is (was also with Ryedin for the Junior Men's event at Pacific Coasts last week).

Leitans are skating to "Ticket to the Moon" and "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO while Alexa Webb is skating to songs from Moulin Rouge.

Before that, Aisin/Moore's FD song was "Stand by Me" by Florence + the Machine while Tiffany Bunce skated to that popular female cover of "Paint it Black" - she's in 1st (80.55 FS, 123.48), ahead of Webb.

Pearl Rojas, coached by Julie Berlin & Steve Hartsell, skated to "Yumeji's Theme" by Shigeru Umebayashi & Tchaikovsky's Valse Sentimentale Op. 51, No. 6, played by Josef Sakonov.

Alexis Snyder is skating to "Only Hope" by Mandy Moore. ETA: I believe her coach is Wendy David. Into 2nd 122.91 behind Bunce.

The Fischers still lead in Novice with 5 teams left after the ice resurfacing.

Lejla Begicevic started with classical Moonlight Sonata but the 2nd half was the "Trailerized" version by Wall of Noise - 120.25 into 3rd place.

Final group of Junior women are warming up! Top 4 will qualify for Nationals:
15 Ela Cui, Broadmoor SC 2 62.47
16 Jiaying Ellyse Johnson, DuPage FSC 5 45.36
17 Willow Fedewa, Winterhurst FSC 4 46.32
18 Emilia Nemirovsky, Detroit SC 1 66.88
19 Jessica Jurka, Denver Colorado FSC 3 53.30

Greg Zuerlein was with the Fugates who skated to the Rio OST - into 2nd behind the Fischers.

Ela Cui opened with 2 falls, recovered well, then doubled her final planned 3T - skated to Cinema Paradiso/Italian female vocal - 95.52 in Fs, 157.99 into 1st.

Sophia Feige/Wiles Middlekauff skated to a very familar Cirque du Soleil piece. Natalia Annenko Deller and Adrienne Lenda are with them - into 2nd.

Jiaying Ellyse Johnson skated to "Old Momney" by Lana Del Rey (based on Rota's R&J theme) and landed everything she planned, I think! Denise Myers is her Chicago coach - 119.99 in FS! 165.35 well into 1st! :)

Marian Carhart/Denis Bledsoe (with Zueva) skated to a famous classical piece - Hungarian folk? Can someone confirm? ETA: 67.61 in FD, 117.05 1st.

Willow Fedewa skated to the Maleficent OST - into 3rd place with 2 to go.

Last edited:
Emilia Nemirovsky (music from the Succession OST) - her impressive jumps: 3Lz+2T, 3F crisp, 3S, 3Lo with great speed/flow out, 3Lz fall, 3F step out (+rep), 2A+2T. Julie Berlin & Garrett Lucash are with her.

ETA: 108.61 2nd in FS, 175.49 in 1st!

I think Carhart FD is Czardas?

I saw Lukanin FD at Chesapeake Open. Thought it was bizarre then. My feelings haven't changed. They are both talented skaters and have a lot of potential, but this FD is a no.

ETA: And as I said then, they needed to significantly change or replace the FD. Their scores here suggest they should have.

Going great for Huang/Mintz until the twizzles. I wonder if they did enough to stay in top 5.

They are a new team and skate well together. Simon has improved a lot over the past few years...I remember him competing in Int at Chesapeake in 2021.

And they do stay in top 5! On to Nats!
