2025 Skate Canada Pairs SP PBP - Carmina BOO-rana

I can't find anything to criticize about Minerva and Nikita. They seem to have it all. I'll always be rooting for Riku/Ryuichi for the Oly gold because I just have such a soft spot for them. But I really think Minerva and Nikita have everything it takes to win it all. We shall see.

I went back to rewatch quickly, Trennt definitely dropped Lia out of that final program position which I'm assuming just stays up in a held position. They covered it miraculously, as if they've had it happen to them before.

Unpopular opinion but I like this program. 5000x better than their short last year, even.

Well going from a hideous music mix to one of the greatest classical operas of all time certainly helps. I think going back to a character driven type program just suits them more.

Os are going to be nerve-racking, too many favorites and not enough medals to give :drama:

Unpopular opinion but I like this program. 5000x better than their short last year, even. I don't think he has the intensity like she always has to really sell it and his footwork looks really really labored. Yes, the in betweens can be greatly improved but I still like it as a whole.
which team are you talking about?

I know the music and program choice for Deanna and Max isn’t popular, same with the backflip which is controversial, but I love this program for them. It has potential to be wow and Deanna sells it hard even if Max doesn’t. But it needs to be clean sharp smooth and they weren’t that today.
I love this music for them. They need dramatic and the opening is so mature. I even like the backflip where it is - sue me!

But technically they have some things to clean up to be at the top.

I am a resident Deanna Stellato lover and saw her live at her very first senior Nationals in 2000, but that ship has LONG sailed. If they get onto the podium or even the top 4 at this point, it would be a shocker and 100% based on other teams falling apart.

I also played my VCR tape probably until it broke watching her 6.0 Keri Lotion Classic skate the following fall.

I think they peaked a few years ago. It's a shame when a team peaks in the middle of a quad.

Agreed (and I also saw her then live!) but I’m rooting for them or anyone to out skate the Georgians. If EfiMit gets to go I’d love a medal surprise for them but highly unlikely.

 You do know where Volodin is from.
LOL - yeah, and I know who their coach is, but they're not even training in Russia this season, unlike the Georgians. Plus, Germans would scoff at those attempts the same way Americans do when Russia tried to act like Ilia is theirs.

Very much like Duhamel and Radford before Pyeyoungchang.
Not the same case at all IMO. They had injuries in 2017 hence dropping way off the World podium. But they came back and delivered (with a quad Sal) in 2018 and came away with a gold and bronze medal.

SD/D would need several big miracles to find themselves on the individual podium.

Beautiful job by Perreira & Michaud tonight. The opening performance by Vouillamoz & Bouvart was really so strong out of the gate (up until the SBS spins). It was nice to see it ultimately passed by a truly deserving effort.

From what I am reading I guess the time deduction for Lia and Trennt was the final pose? In real time it didn't look wrong to me but I was just loving that program so much. I thought it might be for the beginning but that totally wasn't their fault. oh well, so happy they broke 70 and technically it was 71.

That's a pretty good job of splitting hairs. Very tiny and fine hairs.

I was thinking about the drop, and not the cause. We don’t know how the story of SDD ends yet. And let’s not forget Duhamel and Radford ended up on the podium because the Russians imploded in the free.

Deanna is fuming lol

I don’t think she’s right about how may points they lost on the death spiral though. Maybe 1.5-2 points max.

Personally to me the score felt a bit high for the quality of what they did. But I’m surprised at the pissed beyond belief attitude to be honest. They didn’t skate poorly. And they did lose “easy” points on a couple levels. All things considered with how badly last season went, they are still being scored pretty favourably. But I guess this is the difference between Deanna and us mere mortals. She still wants to win.

Well, CBC has blocked the video in the US and I'm not paying for a VPN to watch "from" Canada.

I have a VPN set to Canada and it still doesn’t work.
Deanna says she is disappointed that they lost levels on an element that they did exactly the same in their last GP and got 4 points but tonight got level 1, so they lost 3 or 4 points and no idea why? She’s quite annoyed! She maintained her disappointment in the press conference, now I know why - that must be annoying.
