2025 Skate Canada Pairs FS PBP - The Pair Glitch Project

140 feels a bit high for Deanna and Max, but with the glitches, who knows? I think Minerva and Nikita's score was fair.

Late to the Mission party, but I’m in Iguazú Falls as part of vacation. I had no idea parts of the Mission were filmed here. There’s a visitors center where three countries intersect (Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay) and you can watch the movie for free there.
I’m Brazilian, my family is from what’s referred as the “Mission area” of my state, I have family living in Foz do Iguaçu and have visited several times.
I had no idea about this thing with the movie.

But I’ve also become woke to the point that I think no one who isn’t South American indigenous should touch that music even with a 10 foot pole. Let alone with a cross slapped on the dress.

Well, that honestly was a surprise win (for me) by Deanna and Max but they did give it their all and Minerva and Nikita had a couple of falls. You just never know in skating ... and that's just a tiny part of what makes it such a great sport. Congrats to all the medallists.

And now I'm off to watch GAME 7 of the World Series. GO JAYS!! Hopefully, I can find vids of the Women's FS somewhere .... not sure if they are ever available when it's CBC Sports but here's hoping. Good luck to all.

By a significant margin that was the best jump sequence Deanna and Max have ever done.

The program built nicely here I thought.

I still am betting one of them in injured or battling some kind of something that set them back. Those lifts were sketchy in a way they aren’t usually. But a nice skate for them and exciting for them to win.

Minerva and Nikita just kind of looked off all program. I find them to be beautiful skaters, but this program is pretty snoozy. I’m sure the impact would be there if skated cleanly though.

I confess I've never seen the film, and my love for the music isn't about the plot of the film and goes back to my college days (it was very popular music for modern dance pieces in the '90s). I appreciate the context, even (especially) if I have to adjust my thinking about it. Will educate myself on it, thank you.

It's a great movie, but I have no idea what the accuracy of it is.

It was a slaughter.

The Spanish built them as way to “protect” the indigenous peoples from the evil Portuguese.
That particular area of South America was in dispute between the Spanish and the Portuguese and it was constantly changing hands. Most of that territory was Brazilian on paper at the time, the Portuguese had enough of the Spanish meddling and decided to put an end to it.

Needless to say who really lost the battle.
There’s hardly any indigenous population around now and one ethnic group that was particular to my state, the Charruas, was decimated by the Mission led Guaranys. The confrontation with the Portuguese then almost decimated the Guaranys as well.

Given my state was one of the few bits of Mission territory that ended up in current Brazil, the Guerra Missioneira is one of the reasons why we as a people never fully identified as Brazilians and plenty feel we have more in common with Argentina and Uruguay. We consider the indigenous peoples to be the real heroes of the story, even though our society as whole gives what little is currently left of them the minority treatment.

Long story short, it left a scar. A very ugly one.
The São Miguel ruins is a wonderful place to visit, with plenty of artifacts, though.

Please no, the lifts are already so ugly in order to hit levels, and the levels are why we get the ugly grab leg death spiral. They require so much complexity that we end up with super messy programs as pairs try to meet the requirements.
I think you misread what I posted - to be fair my syntax was weird.

So pleased the British team had such a good free skate! :cheer2:

I hope to see both Periera/Michaud and Hase/Volodin's free skates clean at some point. Both seem like they would be really good without the errors.

Really enjoyed Stellato/Deschamps - much improved on their last outing.
Yes, it is kinda strange the resurgence of it the last few seasons after seeing it next to nowhere for almost 2 decades!
Karen-W already pointed out that Riverdance have been performing their 30 year anniversary tour (I saw it last year) but bouncing off this to say that while others are complaining about the number of repeat programs, I am complaining about the number of Riverdance programs, mainly because most skaters can't skate quickly enough, or alernatively with good enough choreography, to keep up with Reel Around the Sun. Only Jason Brown can pull it off (I don't believe any skater 'owns' a piece of music but I may make an exception in this instance).

Also, there's other music in the Riverdance soundtrack, some of which is slower. I'd love to see someone use some of the other parts, maybe not for a whole program, but at least for part of it.

Watched this is bed late last night and the main things that I woke up with today were:
1. Pairs is in desperate need of a Nessun Dorma and other warhorses so at least we have some bombastic music on the podium
2. To the person in the front row, what is the point of the hybrid US/Canada flag they were waving? Weird choice in these times.

Interesting to read the love-it-or-hate-it reactions here to the Germans' free skate. I confess, I was more toward "hate it - bring back Four Seasons." but maybe it will just take some time. I'll have to watch it again with an open mind.

I wasn't paying super close attention, but I thought they were only waving it for Stellato (and Deschamps)? It was amidst a bunch of other Canadian flags from the same group.

I thought it was strange, too, but the context of Stellato + being surrounded by other Canadian flags led to me to charitable v. uncharitable interpretation of the waver's intentions. Maybe they even meant it as a message of peace / friendship despite the current tensions. Still, on balance, I think it's not appropriate to wave an American flag (or this odd hybrid one) for Stellato. Stellato is competing for Canada and is a Canadian citizen now. I don't think people should wave Canadian flags for Christina Carreira or Lilah Fear either (not that I've seen any). Or god forbid Russian flags for Volodin.
