2025 ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Boston

I had my bag over my shoulder last night (and afternoon) and both times got waved through the non-bag line. Yeah, pointless.
I remember when before Worlds in 2003(Washington, DC), my friend who had never been to a skating competition and had been across the street from the World Trade Center (9/11), wanted to bring a gas mask with her into the arena! I told it was unlikely that a terrorist would target s figure skating competition: more likely the Super Bowl...

Please forgive the off-topic post, but I think this may be the best way to get this information to US folks attending Worlds in Boston who are also holding tickets to the 2026 Nationals in St. Louis.

It turns out only the senior events will be competed in St. Louis. The junior events are being exiled to the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, which I was told is about 20-25 miles from the main arena.

I am not happy to have learned this critical information long after tickets went on sale and many people purchased All-Event tickets with the expectation they'd be able to see all the events without dealing with a rental car, parking fees, taxi/Uber charges or (possibly) icy highways.

I have expressed my displeasure at the USFS booth. Perhaps some others will want to do the same.
That's how it was done the last time US Nats were in St. Louis, except the Novice events and some Junior events were at the alternate arena. Back then, some of the events overlapped, the coaches were having to run between arenas.

I remember watching Junior dance at the main arena.

I've had a small shoulder bag and small Lululemon tote each day. Sometimes I get waved through security, sometimes I have to put both in the scanner, sometimes just my purse in the scanner, sometimes I put them in the bin as I walk through the metal detector, and sometimes I put them in the bin and then they physically search one or both. The lack of consistency on their part when I've consistently brought the sand items is puzzling.

Apologies if this has been answered already but does anyone attending know if they’re allowing us to stay for men’s after the ice dance medal ceremony? Since it seems next to impossible to kick everyone out and get back in in time to start…

You've forced me to dig through the skating archives in my spare room! All of the novice practices and comps were at the Family Arena in St. Charles. Some of both Junior and Senior practices were at the Family Arena. All of the Junior and Senior Competitions were at the Savvis Center (now Enterprise Center) in St. Louis.

At that time shuttles were offered which departed from official hotels. The routes did run to the Family Arena in St. Charles as well as Savvis Center. I remember that I stayed across the street from an official hotel - maybe the Renaissance - and was able to purchase a shuttle pass.

My recap of the skating clinic earlier today at Steriti Memorial rink:
Off to get a cannoli and get back into TD Garden now. Last night, we didn't even go through metal detectors; a nice man just scanned our tickets and waved us on in.

Thank you for going to the archives, I was beginning to think that maybe my 67 year old brain was playing tricks!

This is what I was thinking of. I was there, did not rent a car, and used the shuttle to go to the secondary arena. I think to watch Samelson & Bates win Junior Dance. (Sigh)

And I have to correct the Junior OD was at the Family Arena in St Charles but the Junior FD was at the Savvis Center in St. Louis. I admit I am confused but will look at it later and maybe figure it out, lol.

All I can say is some of the Junior Dance competitions were at St. Charles and some at Savvis. I forgot that the Juniors all did 2 compulsory dances and the schedule isn't quite detailed enough. @MacMadame I do have bad news for you. Samuelson/Bates took silver behind Davis/White in 2006. In 2007 Spokane Samuelson/Bates won the gold medal in Juniors.

I'm pretty sure that Junior Ladies SP (featuring Zhang, Flatt, and Wagner :)) was at the Family Arena, b/c i attended. I also remember attending a Senior Ladies practice there.

I agree that the general inconsistency here in policy was somewhat frustrating to experience, especially given how smooth, consistent and coordinated it was in 2016. The clear bag policy they had back then I think helped in that regard.

Perhaps such big crowds and over time and what would be odd policies for their regular facility staff likely added to the confusion.

They did not have a clear bag policy in 2016. I think the first skating event I attended with a clear bag policy was 2022 SA, but I remember 2022 Nats had that policy.

Thanks for confirming that regarding 2016 - I was scratching my head as I was there and I was sure that was NOT the case as I have never owned a "clear bag"!

Hmm…I might be misremembering but I do recall they sold clear bags back then that met the size restrictions. I know the NFL and other major sports adopted a clear bag policy around that time or perhaps a little later. It’s possible I may have mixed them up…but in any case, I found the screening process to be much smoother and more coordinated back then.

Since they don’t normally allow even small bags at the venue they didn’t know what to do. Plus, only 30 minutes to enter. If they made all of us go through bag screening last night some of us would still be out there. It took me 10 minutes the first morning practice and that was just with two people in front of me. They didn’t speak English and didn’t know what to do. I was able to point at what went through he conveyor and what could go on the slider.

If they were serious about bag checks, doors would need to be open two hours prior (or they allow all event to stay).

Did anyone attend the small medal ceremony yesterday? What was the setup like?

The set up was horrible. I was in line to get in for men's and they were doing this in the entry plaza. I don't think many people could see and I wasn't there to watch. Basically you had a crowd of people standing and waiting/watching the ceremony, another crowd waiting for doors to open and then trying to get in while the crowds for the medal ceremony were standing still and blocking movement, as well as people leaving the arena in addition to any normal foot traffic for the T etc. The scheduling yesterday was terrible to begin with having such a short time between events and this made it worse.

There was a thread on reddit about people getting pushed so it was actually dangerous. I didn't experience that but probably because as soon as I realized that forward movement was impossible, I ducked around to the left by the supermarket between some cops that were standing in a line then ducked to the right under a rope after passing the bottleneck. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the intended traffic pattern but no one said anything to me. And most importantly I avoided being crushed.

I posted photos of this mess on my Facebook.

Not quite as bad today but same setup. They had some kids hip-hop dance groups perform up at the top and keeping everyone down here. They then moved everyone in line into the arena and then had us listen to Monique Coleman talk about her skating and bring random fans up to the platform to dance to High School Musical music.

Finally it's getting started now.

ETA: They did have employees helping with crowd/traffic control and moving people in. Shaidorov didn't show...poor guy, did someone let him know it was happening?

I was in the line for bags but it was moving so slowly that the employee working the line next to us started looking into people's bags and sending them along, so I avoided the x-ray line. The guy in front of me had a backpack. Another staff told him and someone else no backpacks, guy went through x-ray anyway and they let him in. Yeah, theater.

I was at 2022 Nats and it was the first time in my life that I had to buy a clear bag. :)

I learned from my experience yesterday and went in the side entrance. Not sure it would have been feasible to line up there yesterday since people were still leaving the arena from the free dance. The timing was just horrible.

There was someone from High School Musical yesterday but I didn't catch their name. Probably the same person.

I did the side entrance yesterday, you had to take the stairs and there were still people coming down. They were like fish swimming upstream.

I injured my knee two days before I flew to Boston. I asked an usher if I could stay in the arena since I had trouble walking. He said “why don’t you hide in the bathroom like everyone else”? He let me stay in the arena.

Back in 2016, at least after the first event, they allowed those with mobility challenges to go to a "secure area" outside the actual arena but inside security while they cleaned the arena between events. It meant that it wasn't necessary to line up again to go through security.

they made us leave every time this time, but I was allowed to go to the escalator or elevator when they tried to force everyone down the stairs on events with tight turnarounds
