Well I'm here for at least the Junior Pairs, then probably off to bed.
Glad we have 2 commentators working the ISU "World Feed"

I get that China probably just recruits the shortest girls and tallest boys into pairs, but the height difference between these two is almost distracting. It's giving Duhamel/Radford.

Cheng/Dong.

I like the girl, the boy is kind of half cooked they aren't bad. The music choice is rather random ...

Yuxuan Chen/Yinbo Dong 🇨🇳
Coach: Yang Ding, Xibei Li
Music: Cruella (soundtrack) Nicholas Britell

Triple Twist 3
2A - timing issue
Throw 2F
Back Inside Death Spiral 2
Axel Lasso Lift 4
Step Sequence 4

Flying Change Foot Combo Spin 4 - loss of synchronization

Pretty solid skate, but the performance still needs a lot of work.

55.63 = 1st Place

I'm awake. I probably won't sleep tonight so let's watch. I don't normally follow junior pairs because they scare me but let's hope for the best.

Japan always has amazing lighting in all of their arenas, and this goes back to at least the beginning of the century. I remember everyone looking so good at the 2001 Grand Prix Final :lol:

I also like how after the first few rows in the stands, everything is a bit darker so the ice really stands out.

This is an excellent arena. It's a bit of a maze when it comes to attempts to find something specific, and no one speaks English, especially not the volunteers. But the venue itself is great.

Q/LaC are better matched, faster and more powerful than Z/D. Unfortunately, they are also better matched in not having high value elements

Julia Quattrocchi/Etienne Lacasse 🇨🇦
Coach: S. Valois, Y. Desjardins, A. Barabe, V. Emard
Music: Azul, Tribal Instinct

Double Twist 3
2A - Etienne stepped out
Reverse Lasso Lift 4
Throw 2F
Step Sequence 3
Back Inside Death Spiral 2

Change Foot Combo Spin 4 (3 after review) - quite far apart

Needed a clean skate with their lesser technical content.

51.88 = 2nd Place

Kieran will forever remain "the hockey guy" for me.

I appreciate the music choice.

Excellent twist, and a very impressive lift, but that throw was the worst one I have seen in decades. They just gave up on that element.

Jazmine Desrochers/Kieran Thrasher 🇨🇦
Coach: Bruno Marcotte
Music: Meet Me Halfway, Boom Boom Pow

Triple Twist 4
2A - Jazmine fell
Reverse Lasso Lift 4
Throw 3Lz - fall
Back Inside Death Spiral 3
Change Foot Combo Spin 4
Step Sequence 4

That was a rough skate for Jazmine. The Axel air position did not look good, and the throw timing was terrible.

-2.00 = Falls
54.45 = 2nd Place

They obviously don't feel comfortable with the throw Lutz because they had decent speed the whole program except into that, which was literally about a crossover and a half and then backwards gliding as slow as possible.

Lutz is a tough throw to require for juniors. I'm pretty sure it used to just rotate between toe, sal, and loop, but I guess they changed it at some point.

The live band with the intros is fantastic. I sense this was a Japanese Federation choice and not ISU because I refuse to believe they ever came up with something 'fantastic'.

G/Zhang are cool. Well matched, the boy is good, the girl is good too when she doesn't have to jump. They have a bit of an "it" to them, but need some better basics.

Rui Guo/Yiqen Zhang 🇨🇳
Coach: Hongbo Zhao, Jinlin Guan, Wei Zhang, J. Du
Music: Roll Your Eyes

Triple Twist 3
Throw 3F
2A - Rui two-footed
Reverse Lasso Lift 4
Back Inside Death Spiral
3 (4 after review)
Change Foot Combo Spin 4 (3 after review)
Step Sequence 4

Not the most comfortable skate, but Rui fought for landings.

63.84 = 1st Place
