Because it doesn't matter how hard the dance is. They are looking at four specific sets of steps within the pattern and if the edges and turns aren't clean, then no 'Y' assigned. There is so much meticulousness going on there.

But do you even know which set of steps they are looking at? Because almost any skater can do some turns but they have to be precisely clean and on the correct edges throughout.

This is why I constantly say it's not really a case of 'oh that looked good, I can guess the level'. Doesn't work like that on the midline and pattern steps in dance.

also like most of the adult dancers I know work really hard to get their patterns very precise and correct so it's not really a knock to say that adult skaters can do it lol

I attended a social ice dance season where this dance was played 2x every Sunday for 10 years. I'm very familiar both with it and with how it looks done both wrong and correctly.
