It’s very unethical to use the Oscars to promote an upcoming movie. I don’t care that Disney owns the network.

Given the ratings the past few years they need to take the advertising dollars wherever they can get them. It’s very unethical to use the Oscars to promote an upcoming movie. I don’t care that Disney owns the network.
I thought they always did stuff like that. It’s very unethical to use the Oscars to promote an upcoming movie. I don’t care that Disney owns the network.
Ratings everywhere is down. It’s still bad practice and the lack of shame is appalling but I guess we we just keep lowering standards.Given the ratings the past few years they need to take the advertising dollars wherever they can get them.
The Bruno thing last year was pretty bad but I never remembered the Oscars showing a trailer to promote a specific studio’s upcoming movie.I thought they always did stuff like that.![]()
I logged onto FSU to say exactly this and you beat me to it!It’s very unethical to use the Oscars to promote an upcoming movie. I don’t care that Disney owns the network.

I know Disney owns ABC but using the actual telecast to promote "Little Mermaid" instead of buying commercial time is just![]()
That's a traditional part of the show. And it doesn't show favoritism to a movie that potentially could be nominated for next year's Oscars. In fairness, they could have cut the 15 minute monologue at the start.
Some traditions should be ditched. That's a traditional part of the show
I really liked her in the "Marvelous Mrs. Maisel." I'm glad she's getting some higher profile attention.Stephanie Hsu is such a talent! Love her!
Maybe. I sometimes like the Oscar openings and think they're a good way to kick off the evening, though they could be shorter. But, even if I thought that the show should begin with the first award, I still think it's a very different issue from promoting a movie that will be up for nomination next year. Some traditions should be ditched.![]()
They have been more subtle in the past. The Bruno thing last year was pretty bad but I never remembered the Oscars showing a trailer to promote a specific studio’s upcoming movie.
MGM classic films hawked under the Warner Bros. name...This Warners Bros. Segment seems like it was an offering for that Little Mermaid trailer being shown.
They were my picks but no idea who the favorites were. If I only bet,Apparently the Black Panther win for costume was a surprise as was The Whale’s make up.
