2023 Oscars “Red” Carpet & Ceremony

DANG! All Quiet on the Western Front is winning most of the tech Oscars!

Production Design: "All Quiet on the Western Front"

If there is a Best Picture upset, it's going to be this movie.

Hmm - It’s not nominated for Best Director, which typically the Best Picture winner is usually also (at least) nominated for.

She reportedly did not have time to rehearse and was just going to show up for the show and not perform. Maybe she didn't rehearse and decided to perform anyway.

Although it doesn't always seem like it, these shows are well rehearsed. I don't think she just showed up with a few musicians (and a change of clothes) and said "Let's go!" More likely it was just a well kept secret with a falsely planted story.

I kind of want to see this movie, but it looks pretty intense. I'm already anti-war, I don't know if I want to see corpses rotting in a trench.

The whole point of the movie is that war is senseless.

I’m just tired of war, I get the movie depicts just that but the megalomaniacs and despots aren’t seeing it or caring. The only war movie I needed to see was “The Killing Fields” and I got it, I was 11.

It won the BAFTA over EEAAO and Banashees....
The Variety critic predicted it would win as older voters would favor a traditional anti-war message film over the far more experimental EEAAO, and Best Picture, unlike all the other categories, is on a weighted ballot. (And the Director of "All Quiet" won the BAFTA too, in a surprise.) Best Picture winners without Director nods have happened before, like "Argo."

I guess everything everywhere will win Best Pic after getting screenplay and supporting actors. Yawn. It’s been years since I was enthralled with a BP winner.
