2023-24 ISU Junior Grand Prix

Thanks, Karen, for copying out the initial entries (KOR entries should be added soon since their JGP selection competition was this past weekend).
(absolutely shocked at the Canadian teams and the subs listed given the results at their Next Gen Camp simulated competition this weekend)
The entries/subs were due this past Friday and so it appears Skate Canada submitted the names of the 5 teams (including the top 3 Novices) that competed at 2023 Junior & Novice Nationals. Skate Mariposa had tweeted on July 13 that Sabatini-Speciale/Buelow have been assigned to JGP #3 in Istanbul.

Replying to @Dobre here:
The top 3 returning teams from Junior Worlds are all signed up for the same event, as of the moment.
At least Germany's Grimm/Savitskiy (WD after RD) are not listed for this event. ;)

That makes sense. I was trying to figure out what the logic was behind their entries and sub list for ice dance. I am a bit worried that there's a significant injury with Lewis/McMillan since I fully expected them to have the 1st JGP assignment and they aren't even listed as subs.

I wasn't really expecting Germany to send Grimm/Savitskiy here - next week in Linz seems obvious for their JGP season debut.

When are JGP Austria entries being posted? Going off of what they did for Thailand, they should be posted now but they aren’t.

Wow. The USA is only sending Flores/Wang in Pairs and Baram/Tioumentsev aren't even listed as substitutes.

As expected, the Peals and the Mullens got the dance assignments. Beck Strommer for the US men, and Josephine Lee was given the US Women’s assignment.

Gotta get logged on to work now, but if no one beats me to it, I'll post the lists later. ;)

From the 2022-23 ISU Season Best total scores list - ISU Junior age-eligible skaters/ice dance teams (minus the GP-assigned ones):

Ice Dance (top 12):
43 Darya GRIMM / Michail SAVITSKIY GER ISU JGP Riga Cup 2022 10/09/2022 161.42 J
61 Angelina KUDRYAVTSEVA / Ilia KARANKEVICH CYP ISU World Junior Championships 2023 04/03/2023 149.86 J
75 Iryna PIDGAINA / Artem KOVAL UKR ISU JGP Baltic Cup 2022 08/10/2022 144.44 J
77 Elliana PEAL / Ethan PEAL USA ISU JGP Baltic Cup 2022 08/10/2022 141.87 J
4 of the Top 12 Junior Ice Dance teams from last season are entered to compete at Linz. Plus, Nguyen/Giang and the Mullens. This is going to be a tough competition to get on the podium.

Skate Mariposa has announced that Sabatini-Speciale/Buelow have also been assigned to JGP Budapest.

That is exciting for their coach Mitch, will be nice to see him in the kiss n cry like his former Skate Canada team members

Anthony Paradis has been assigned to JGP Osaka -

I wonder if USA is going to send any of their younger dance teams to JGP this year... 2 of them are listed as subs for the other so we'll just have to wait maybe a day for the JGP Istanbul entries.

I think it will depend entirely on how the top 7 junior teams so far do at their first JGPs. There are 10 junior teams currently on the ISP, and 2-3 more who might be added in the near future.

Neset/Markelov - 168.00 Dallas Classic, 161.27 LPIDI Int'l - assigned to JGP #1 Bangkok
Peal/Peal - 152.21 LPIDI Int'l, 141.99 Dallas Classic - assigned to JGP #2 Linz
Mullen/Mullen - 146.86 LPIDI Int'l, 135.00 Dallas Classic - assigned to JGP Linz #2
Carhart/Horovyi - 143.93 LPIDI Int'l
Pedersen/Chen - 143.03 LPIDI NQS, 135.99 Dallas Classic
Hauer/Starr - 138.85 Dallas Classic - assigned to JGP #1 Bangkok
Lavrova/Rogers - 137.79 Dallas Classic
*Cui/Eckert - 126.85 LPIDI NQS, 115.49 Dallas Classic
Ilin/Cain - 125.63 LPIDI NQS, 121.54 Dallas Classic
*Calhoun/Veselukhin - 125.20 Dallas Classic, 115.57 LPIDI NQS
Bland/Sperry - 123.28 LPIDI Int'l
*Renzi/Lissauer - 117.89 LPIDI NQS, 114.21 Dallas Classic
Epps/Gilman - 116.35 LPIDI NQS, 111.16 Dallas Classic
* = not on the ISP yet

Based on these results from the first two comps of the season, I can't see Epps/Gilman getting a JGP at all. Ilin/Cain might have a shot at one, should one of the 7 teams who have scored 135+ in one or both events already falter at their JGPs. Same goes for Bland/Sperry, who had a pretty rough RD this week but bounced back strongly in the FD.

We'll know, probably tomorrow, who has been assigned to JGP #3 Istanbul, but I'd put my money on Carhart/Horovyi and either Pedersen/Chen or Lavrova/Rogers.
