2022 Canadian Stars on Ice Tour

Kurt did Nyah, which was great to see live after missing it live 21(?!) years ago! I do admit though, I feel a real opportunity was missed to not have him do Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me. I suppose it would have been too much reworking of the finale since that song was already in it, but they did revamp the finale in Canada slightly to include Rocket Man. Just felt like a perfect place to have brought that one back.

Anyway, the show was good. Keegan and Kirsten looked to be having the best time. Satoko did the cutest little fist pump when Kurt landed his jump in the finale

Satoko is gorgeous to watch. As was Alissa, but I think her second program (a campy spin demonstration) was better in theory than execution.

Keegan wore plaid in both programs and I don’t even care. He did his Home program in the second act and the Alan Doyle number in the first.

Piper and Paul did a revamp of their James Bond LP. Audience loved it.

MTM are much smoother live than they look on tv. They fit in well, especially Kirsten.

Overall I thought Piper & Paul were the MVPs of the show, both in terms of their technical level (which, incidentally, since most of the cast are now not only retired but not coming off a competitive season, this wasn't exactly the most tech-heavy iteration of Stars on Ice I've ever seen) and their programs/segments in the group numbers. The revised Bond program (they basically deleted the first half and replaced it with "The Writing's on the Wall") was fun to see back, albeit I miss the finger gun twizzles, though I understand why they weren't in it.

Elvis got a big crowd response, but I think his programs are both kind of misses this year. Talk about jump technique built to last, though. Kurt's programs are all about emphasizing his skating skills and musicality, which he still has plenty of ("Nyah" really is a highlight).

Keegan had the most technically ambitious program among the singles skaters, but after landing a very nice triple Lutz he fell on both a triple toe loop and a double Axe.

This tour had one of the biggest influxes of new people in a while (albeit, it's now been years since the last tour even happened), so I was interested to listen/observe how the crowd reacted to some of them. You could tell that most of them had no idea who Alissa was, though her programs went over well.

W/P’s first program was really lovely. I’m blanking on the song name, but I’m sure someone will know. I was impressed with how polished it looked since I can’t imagine they had a ton of time skating together in a while.

The second number was a bit more dramatic, kind of a miss for me, but it was still good. They looked great in the finale costumes!

The audience was clearly in Elladj’s corner from the start. First number didn’t grab me a ton, second number was great. I think a nod to his Guinean roots. It built well.

How were Elladj and Weaver/Poje?

I was sitting in a section that had a lot of senior-aged women who very clearly weren't sure what to make of Elladj's Drake number, but the general audience really liked him.

I fee the urge to speak….the entire first half of the show was a limp level one dirgefest. I kept waiting for a coffin to roll out. The second half was better. The cast obviously found the red bull vending machine.

what caught my eye:
Mike marinara has a very strong stage presence.
I could feel Elladj’s energy throughout Loved him
Loved Elvis. Loved Satoro. Loved Kirk last number. The pair and dance teams were ok, as was Keegan. Buttle was disappointingly dishwater. If I missed any other skaters, I just don’t remember them

This is the first night opening. Surely they’ll improve.

The Ottawa show started 45 min late due to backstage electrical issues. Kurt was kind enough to make the announcement.

Kaetlyn Osmond was the one under the weather this time, and didn’t skate.

I never thought I would see Elvis wearing this much shear material but he can pull it off, also sequins on wrists. A lot of posing though, little content. One thrilled woman screamed “I still love you, Elvis!” His second program was much better.

Still enjoy Kurt’s Nyah, not so much Alissa’s clown and spin programs.

Satoko’s programs and her dresses were gorgeous. She deserved more applause than what she received.

Jeff only did one program to ”In My Life”, but my eyes were more interested in his memories video than his skating.

Enjoyed both programs from Weaver/Poje. Wish Elladje’s Elton John in a unitard piece as part of the group routine, was longer. I love to watch him skate.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Ottawa show, despite the delay due to the power/technical issues.

I remember fondly the first time I saw Nyah - I was there when Kurt unveiled it at the US SOI show in Lake Placid

A dream came true today! After a 9-year wait, I finally! FINALLY!! Saw the exquisite Satoko Miyahara live (that’s Dame Queen Satoko to you!)

Impossibly captivating!!! In a league of her own!!! Everything I was hoping she’d be and more

And I had no idea Alissa Cizney is in the cast! Loooved her Send in the Clowns number. And I never thought I’d see Nyah live from Kurt!! What a moment!!

Despite the late start this was my favourite CSOI in the past 6 years

Also I SAW SATOKO!!

Zooming in it looks like some sort of skirt, most of the ladies outfits in that shot don't look like they had any fittings. Of the ones with skirts Alyssa, Piper and Satako all look like the skirts are way too tight on the hips/buttocks. Weavers is a different style but it also is a terrible fit.

IIRC, all the women were wearing skirts in this number except Moore-Towers who had a unitard. I think that is an extremely unflattering picture of just about every skater. The costumes looked fine in person with respect to the fit.

My one complaint would have been the lighting, which was way, way too dark in this number and it was hard to see anything super well. The costumes were all kind of earth tones, and with the dark lighting it didn’t enhance anything about them.

Just got home from the Hamilton show. I won't write a detailed review but it was generally high quality. Highlights for me: QUEEN SATOKO in both programs (Pergolesi!!)
Elladj! Two very entertaining numbers that were both new to me, the Drake one and "There Will Be Time". I wasn't sure about the choice to run photo slideshows during some of the programs - I liked the photos but I didn't want to miss anything Elladj or Jeff did.
Both dance programs in the second half were awesome, especially Weaver/Pojé's "Dernière Danse".
Just nice to be at a live show after all this time!

I went to the Hamilton show too. It was so great to see live skating again after 2 years! (These tickets were my birthday present from my BF in 2020. I had to wait a while for that gift to pay off. )

Elladj was the highlight for me - I loved both his programs; he's such an engaging performer. I also loved W&P's 2nd program.

We stayed for the tv retakes afterwards. W&P redid the ending of their first program to "Leave a Light On". The spotlights make a pathway to the exit, where they're supposed to skate off as the music ends. During the actual show, Kaitlyn misjudged the distance and almost ended up in the lap of one of the spectators in the on-ice seats. Before they started their retake, she exaggerated aiming herself toward the lit-up path way, which was adorable and hilarious.

Elladj also did a "bonus" program during the retakes that wasn't part of the actual show, to "No One Knows Me Like the Piano". I'm glad I made BF stick around for the retakes!
