Jacob Sanchez is a local boy so I'm delighted to see how well he skated. I hope he has a great free skate as well.

I like Broussard’s music. It was a little fast for a junior, but I could see Patrick Chan skating to it...
I first posted about Lucas Broussard's original music choice last season when he used it as his Intermediate & Novice SP: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...ason-news-updates.105723/page-10#post-5645295

Broussard has a beautiful FS program to Rachmaninov (landed 7 triples cleanly to win the virtual qualifying event over the guys with triple Axels). I hope he can showcase his best skating qualities tonight!

Jacob Sanchez always has been a crowd pleaser :) - I remember how he entertained the audience last year in Greensboro with his "Reel Around the Sun" (Riverdance) SP. Jacob kept his last season's FS to "Seize the Day"/"King of New York" (from the Newsies musical) for this season. I'll post the music for all the men before tonight's FS - starting order is posted: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2021/27989/CAT006SEG012.html

ETA Sanchez's quotes after his 1st place SP last night:
"I felt really good," Sanchez said. "That was one of the best short programs I've done in a while, because I do struggle with consistency sometimes and Lutz is my trouble jump sometimes. I was happy I was going for it, and I did the best I could."
...
"Last year I went to junior nationals in North Carolina, I was very nervous," he said. "But this year coming into it I'm more prepared, I'm not nervous. I'm just here to just put out two clean programs that I can, and I'm just going to stick to that goal."

I’ve been checking out Oliver Davis. My niece plays cello, I am going to send some of his music to her.

Ages and previous Nationals placements/international experience are listed in post #1 of this thread.

Men's profiles are published online in the Event Program book (3 pages): https://online.flippingbook.com/view/205019/41/

Junior Men FS starting order (6:30-8:11 pm local / 9:30-11:11 pm ET):

Team USA bios (USFS' current ISP skaters) are linked in names below for 10 of the 12 men.

1 Robert Yampolsky, North Jersey FSC - "Nuvole Bianche" by Ludovico Einaudi; choreo. by Anton Nimenko and/or Nina Petrenko
2 Liam Kapeikis, Wenatchee FSC - "Red and Black"/"Empty Chairs At Empty Tables"/"Do You Hear the People Sing" from the Les Miserables; choreo. by Keegan Murphy
3 Samuel Mindra, Portland ISC - "Pale Green Ghosts" by John Grant; choreo. by Mari Malama and/or Daisuke Murakami
4 Nicholas Hsieh, SC of Wilmington - Carmina Burana by Carl Orff; choreo. by Irina Romanova
5 Michael Xie, All Year FSC - Il Postino OST by Luis Bacalov & "Mi Mancherai" by Josh Groban; choreo. by Alex Chang
6 Lucas Broussard, Highland SC - Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor & Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini; choreo. by Corrie Martin

7 Daniel Martynov, Great Lakes FSC - "Phantasia" (based on The Phantom of the Opera); choreo. by Nikolai Morozov
8 Joseph Klein, Skokie Valley SC - "The Big Smoke" & "The Gallows" by Audiomachine; choreo. by Cordero Zuckerman
9 Jacob Sanchez, Hudson Valley FSC - "Seize the Day" & "King of New York" (from Newsies) by Alan Menken
10 Eric Prober, Panthers FSC - "You Are The Reason" by Calum Scott; choreo. by Silvia Fontana and/or John Kerr; coach is listed as Laura Pizzelanti
11 Matthew Nielsen, Winterhurst FSC - "Found" & "Bernini’s Angels" by Kerry Muzzey / "Only The Winds" by Olafur Arnalds; choreo. by Tom Dickson (assuming Nadia Kanaeva did his SP)
12 Maxim Zharkov, Dallas FSC - "Une Vie d'Amour" by Charles Aznavour; choreo. by Svetlana Serkeli; coaches are listed as Andrei Zharkov, Artem Torgashev (Andrew's dad), Adrian Schultheiss (Sweden)

Liam's mom, Louise Kapeikis, is coaching him here since Keegan Murphy couldn't make it from Vancouver (Murphy was in Greensboro for Liam last year). 3A is a new jump for Liam this year (he landed one with negative GOE in his virtual qualifying FS).

Robert Yampolsky (3A< fall, landed 3A+2T in FS tonight), Daniel Martynov, Eric Prober, and Maxim Zharkov are the others who will go for two 3A in their free skates.

Dice Murakami also works with Mindra - I really like his power, attack & flow!

Mindra was just speaking Russian in K'n'cry..... Never would have guessed, judging by his last name...
There are quite a few Russian skaters and coaches in Portland so this doesn't surprise me. I wonder if he has family in the Russian community here.

He certainly has family somewhere near. He was calling out russian names of parents/relatives(?).

Yes, I heard that. Could be on his mother's side given that his surname isn't Russian or Slavic. We have a pretty decent-sized Russian community in the metro area as well as an Old Orthodox Russian community between Portland and Salem.

Current top 2 with 6 to go:

Samuel Mindra 121.12 (FS 1) 181.49
Lucas Broussard 120.43 (FS 2) 175.49 - not his best skate today, but good experience for someone who competed at the Intermediate level last season

ETA:

3A+2T landed by Matthew Nielsen in the warmup - he switched to Arutunian & Co. last year.

I think Martynov had trouble controlling his adrenaline. He started off like a rocket, but then ran out of gas. Lots of potential, but he needs to work on his spins.
