Well in all fairness Bukin is an okay partner, relatively short and Aleksandra struggles with posture and skating ability. Not to mention their choreo and music choices that have been strange for many seasons. I am more surprised that after so many years of poor technique and posturing and posing they're still within the top 5 in the world. But maybe, just maybe they may just hit the jackpot this season.

This is the word around town? They’re one of my absolute favorite couples and they have the best twizzles of any team

I much rather sit through the Justin Timberlake medley then cheesy and corny singing in the rain from 100 years ago.

I hope they can climb further

I thought the main reason the EU had not accepted Sputnik was because the WHO had not accepted it. And the main reason that the WHO had not accepted it was because Russia had not submitted the required data.

Has the WHO accepted the Sputnik vaccine now? And if yes, did they receive the data they required or not?

WHO has visited the production labs, will get progress probably by October or November for accreditation.

why are almost all threads going back around these jabs

Zahorski / Guererio were never guaranteed the 3rd spot, The Nepo team is hot in their heels but with merits from their work.
I wouldnt be surprised if Nepo pass even StepBuk, watch them score near 80+ RD and 120+ in FD.

Poor StepBukin just cant take a break for 3 Olympic Cycle now, They will never be World Medalists
I'll go on a limb and say Diana/Gleb will get a medal at Worlds.
Diana and Gleb getting a medal at worlds this year lool!?!? :D

Not that - Diana Davis & Gleb Smolkin winning a World medal.
It would be depressing if she got the medal this year. But in the future…why? How do you know how much she will improve within the next few years? I watched the test skates this year and was quite impressed, they have done a huge progress. I thought they have been invited to the test skates because of her mother, but it seems that their invitation was deserved.

But, Russian skaters aren't allowed to enter France so I guess we won't see D/S in Montpellier winning a medal at Worlds next March!

Oh, wait, D/S train in Michigan so I bet they've received one of those vaccines that is approved for use in France, so that means they can compete at Worlds after all.

Oh, but, wait again! Those Russian skaters who dare to get something other than the Sputnik vaccine are going to be blacklisted from the Olympics and major ISU Championships for such a gross lack of national pride and patriotism, so we won't see D/S at Worlds.

The logic in this thread today is pretty astounding.

Well, then I guess if the WHO does receive the data it needs on these visits and gives accreditation it will be a step forward for travel for Russian athetes & we'll have to see then what happens with the EU accreditation. Might be too late for this year's GP, but we'll just have to see there.

Well the prediction was for this year, so that's what I was reacting to.

Aren't they not already better than Step/Buk?
I have no idea at this point - haven't seen either team skate, but we'll see where they are at by Russian Nationals - I was responding to the prediction that Davis/Smolkin would win a medal this season's World Championships.

D/S were very good at US Classic but I feel that Morozova has better material...esp the Scheherazade FD.

By the way, have we heard anything about Zagorski/Guereiro’s new unseen FD by Christopher Dean? Their Indian-style hip-hop RD is fab. I wouldn’t count them out by any stretch.

Vegas is less than 4 weeks before the start of the French GP.
That would mean getting the J&J jab the day before the Vegas GP starts to be fully vaccinated for the French GP.
Not sure any skater would want to try to do a comp having just had the C19 vaccine!
ok......I felt nothing after 1st vaccine but was hungry after the the 2nd. I will be 70 next month with a serious autoimmune disease. I was hospitalized from March 17th to March 30th & rec'd first shot April 1st and 2nd shot June 16th. Both were Pfizer. Is there anyway they could get Pfizer in their travels.

Nepotism?

Does anyone use that term for Maxim Naumov or Ilya Malinin (both of USA but sons of famous skaters from ex-USSR countries)?

It's yet another ridiculous nickname that @love_skate2011 thinks is cute way to dismiss a Russian team/skater whom it has a low opinion of, in a similar vein to what it has coined for Maia Khromyk and Daria Usacheva and that the rest of us in this thread have called out for being rude and unfair to the skaters. The term I've seen used I'm the Russian Test Skates and other live play by play discussions is Daughter 1 for Morozov/Bagin and Daughter 2 for Davis/Smolkin. Those are more likely to catch on around here, similar to how Eliska Brezinova is referred to as Lil Sis 1 and Loena Hendrickx is referred to as Lil Sis 2. Which begs the question, should we start referring to Wolfkostin/Chen as Lil Bro since Jeffrey Chen is Karen Chen's younger brother?

Nah. Too much sentiment. Too many good teams retiring this season. Give them two more seasons.

I don't see why Davis and Morozov deserve to constantly be referred to in this way when Guerreiro, Bukin, Ponomarenko and others also have parents who were/are skaters, coaches, even technical specialists.
I think there has been a belief that both of them have gotten further due to their family connections than their talent alone would have taken them. But it's interesting to note that the nicknaming (which is only slightly less dismissive than outright calling either team "Nepo Couple") has been limited to the teams with the female having the family connection and that similar partnerships with the male who has the family connection aren't given nicknames like Son 1, Son 2, or Son 3, etc.

I'd think we'd be more upset with Morozov and partner. The couple S/S got swept aside for them even more blatantly, when they could barely skate. I think most of this is ET related. D/S literally have genuine merits. If Daddy Morozov only gave D/S a decent FD.

This poster is basically a sort of troll, so the conversation is going pretty off the rails with them driving the (not good kind of) train.

On the other hand, I will give them credit for being improbably correct about Mishina/Galliamov.

D/S aren't with Morozov. They're with Shpilband.

Except they completely abandoned Mishina/Galliamov after they finished 4th at Russian Nationals in 2019, and only came back after they won the 2021 World Championships.

Davis & Morozov's parents are just at a higher profile within the sport than Guerreiro's mother, and neither of Bukin's or Ponomarenko's parents are as involved in skating at this point to the same extent as the former. Particularly in the case of Diana Davis you can't really have a parent that has a higher profile in the sport at this moment, so it creates an interesting narrative even if it is not a particularly fair one.

Ponomarenko's dad was a technical specialist and he stepped back from that once Anthony hit the junior ranks. I know that isn't as high profile to outsiders but it certainly has the potential to be just as influential (maybe moreso if he had advanced to serving on various ISU committees and subcommittees) as either coaching or choreographing skaters who are winning and competing for medal positions routinely. And, let's be real, both Ponomarenko and Bukin's fathers,, as well as Ponomarenko's mother,, are certainly high enough profile due to their own career successes. There are different types of influence and power, and Anthony & Ivan have both benefited from those family connections.

Access is always valuable. Michael Douglas, Laura Dern, Melanie Griffith, 100 other Hollywood kids with famous parents are good actors, but getting in the door was not the huge problem for them that it was for other talented kids. Skating is probably fairer and more objective to the royal kids who progress to the elite level than the entertainment industry.
