2021-2022 New/Returning TV Shows

I never liked Toby. Or the actor who plays him for that matter.

That's interesting since it was only Chris Sullivan along with Sterling K. Brown that were nominated for an Emmy last season.

That being said, I didn't understand writing Toby's character arc as simply being a stick in Kate's wheels the entire series.

I like Chris Sullivan but I am sad that Justin Hartley will never get nominated for this show. An example where his looks are not giving the respect he deserves.

Of course most of my shows come back the week I'm in Nashville for US Nats, LOL

I already told everyone that I'm rooming with there that I will be plopped in front of a TV in our room with Kleenex handy watching the TIU premiere on Tuesday night....they'll just have to deal with it if they don't watch it. 🤣

I liked the debut episode of The Cleaning Lady (on FOX). Élodie Yung as Thony, the title character was great, I liked how she stands her ground and doesn't take crap from anybody. And the beginning of the show started with a bang, which was great, but as I'm typing this I realize it's exactly what happened in the first episode of Transplant. And both shows are about talented doctors from another country unable to work as a doctor in their new country or residence and now doing menial jobs. So that's a little disappointing, but won't keep me from enjoying all the other good stuff about this show. Such as...

The hunky cast. Adam Canto (who I remembered from Designated Survivor). And I really like his character, as well as the chemistry he has with Élodie Yung. Plus Oliver Hudson at the end, that was a good, big end to the episode, finding out that he is
an FBI agent.
Imdb.com says that Jay Mohr and Lou Diamond Phillips were in this episode, but I didn't see them. Maybe they were on a TV newscast playing in the background? Will be interesting to see if they will be part of the cast during the rest of the season.

Trailer for The Cleaning Lady: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZRRfMHxdAw

The season two debut of Transplant was very good. I like the two new characters they have added to the show. Actually, I like everybody in the cast, a great group of characters played by very enjoyable actors. Hamza Haq as Dr. Bashir as the lead character is perfect. And it don't hurt none that he is so handsome!! :swoon: It looks like there could be a love triangle between Bash, Mags and Bash's former flame from his past life in Syria. I kind of don't like that soap opera storyline, but the writing is so good on this show that they will probably rise above that cliched storyline. The line of the night for me was from the new acting head to Mags: "I don't care what kind of doctor you are. I just need you to do your job like everybody else". She needs to hear this kind of statement from people. I'm glad she's surrounded by people who help center her.

:) I’d like to tell about a unique Russian show. It is called “The Field Of Wonders”.
In the beginning it was an ordinary TV show where people were supposed to guess words, but people started to bring gifts for the host. They were bringing fruits from their gardens, or their national costumes (different nationalities), or things relatable to their professions (fireman’s costume or something like that), or some unique handmade things. Now this TV show has a museum of gifts. This tradition of bringing gifts has nothing to do with the rules of the show, but now almost everyone comes with such gifts to this show. As far as I remember people used to take their gifts from under the table, but now they say: “bring my gifts to the studio!” – and the staff workers bring the gifts.
A participant of the show can also ask: “May I sing for you?” Now even those who don’t sing or dance by themselves often say that they came not alone, but with a group of singers or dancers.
I stopped watching this show many years ago, but I like that this show exists in Russia. I like all those people who come with gifts, who almost don’t care about the rules of the game.
I think this show can look odd for people from other countries in 21 century, but isn’t it beautiful at the same time?
This time the show invited people from different countries for the New Year episode. There were songs in different languages, congratulations in different languages.

(the New Year episode)

Now they have one more tradition. As for this tradition, it was invented by the team of the show. Now they always give flowers to every woman or a girl who participates in the show. Usually any man says: “Bring flowers to the studio!” – and the staff workers bring the flowers. (As for the flowers, the show buys them – as far as I understand.)

I like Abbot Elementary too. Also American Auto. Those are my two new ones for this year.

And Ghosts. Ghosts is the funniest damn new comedy show I have watched in a long long time! Some of those one liners Issac and Sasappis drop make me bust out laughing so loud I gotta rewind to hear what I missed afterwards. Yet it also makes you cry sometimes, like when Pete got to see his wife and daughter. :wuzrobbed I love Ghosts! :cheer2:

I didn't realize American Auto had two introductory episodes that aired in December, so I thought last night's episode was the series premiere. Before watching it, I use my On Demand feature and watched episode one. I liked it, but I felt like the actors were trying a bit too hard with their performances to elevate the material. Which United States of Al is definitely guilty of. But the dialogue wasn't that bad, so instead of the performers working at a twelve out of ten level, I'm hoping the director will calm them down a bit, trust the material and deliver their lines at about an eight out of ten. Ana Gasteyer is a TREASURE, so I will watch at least a few more episodes to see the wonder that is her! I recognized Harriet Dyer as Sadie, she was in a 2019 show called The InBetween that I really enjoyed (but it unfortunately lasted only ten episodes). Everybody else in the cast is very good as well. Just hope they relax a bit more into the material.

I've enjoyed Ghosts too. I like it even more in later episodes than in the first and I usually have a different reaction to series - I like the first episodes, but it doesn't hold up.

I watched Good Sam and thought it was a little too formulaic and I didn't really like any of the characters, but I may give it another shot. But I don't think I'll keep up with that one.

I liked Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer just enough to watch another episode or two. If the two male leads get rid of the drama queens, then I'm in for seeing if some serious connections can be formed, even if it is through a silly format (one of the two men is filthy rich, the other...not so much). I like Carolyn the best out of the women. I actually liked her more than the two men. The two guys are attractive and interesting...sort of. Although Kurt running away from difficult situations make me think he's not ready for a serious relationship if he can't address problems straight on. I guess that's why I like Carolyn, she was forthcoming with both men early on and let them know exactly what her situation was. Too bad for the lady who got dumped. She shouldn't have blurted out, "I KNOW HIM" over and over before she even knew what the premise of the show would be. Not the brightest bulb in the pack!

I watched Pivoting on FOX tonight. Rapid-paced dialogue delivered with everything the three lead actresses had to give (Ginnifer Goodwin and Maggie Q among them). Unfortunately, in spite of top-notch performances and direction...the dialogue just isn't that great. I ended up scrolling through Instagram while the debut episode played on in the background... :(

I just watched the first episode of season seven of "Still Standing". It's a Canadian comedy show hosted by Newfoundland actor and comedian Jonny Harris. He goes to small towns throughout Canada that are struggling and interviews people in the community throughout the week. Then he prepares a stand-up show about the things he learned about each community for people of that town as his audience. It's really funny for the people of that town and for us as viewers. The show goes back and forth between his standup and his interviews of people throughout the week. It's like the comfort food of television. :D

The show airs on CBC on Canada at 8pm on Wednesdays. There are episodes of the show on youtube (search Still Standing Jonny Harris). And you might be able to watch shows at the CBC Gem website (not sure if this is accessible to Canadians only or for everyone around the world): https://gem.cbc.ca/media/still-standing/s07

One Of Us Is Lying gets better and better every week. It's a step above most teen dramas, the writing surprises me at times and there are lots of twists to keep my attention at a high level. Every week a think a new person did it, and that's where the writers want us to go. The cast is really good and I have no idea who is the "one of us" who is lying...or even what's happening! I wonder if they will do as good a job as I expect in setting things up for a second season. :cheer:
I’m late seeing this post, sorry, but seriously? It’s godawful; the book was halfway decent YA, but the series is a mess. To start with, the actors are all too old for their roles. I could go on, but I gave up after 1 episode. I’d read the book again before watching this. I love you, but once again our tastes are so different - in movies, in TV, in skating, too, I expect.

I never read the book, so I don't have that to compare the TV show to. As for the ages of the actors, isn't pretty much every teenager on TV played by somebody in their 20's? Cole Sprouse on Riverdale is 29. I'm so used to actors portraying teens as being too old for their roles that I don't even blink at this kind of casting.

As for One Of Us Is Lying, I don't think it's the greatest TV show of the year or deserves Emmy nominations. But the story kept my interest and I found the characters and the actors who portrayed them to both be watchable and enjoyable. :)

I've almost finished all four seasons to date of Yellowstone. That show is a trip. I had to check the murder rate in Montana because I couldn't believe that that many people really get killed every year, and sure enough Montana has one of the lowest murder rates in the US. It's wild how many people die in that series.

Lol, I just binge watched all of Yellowstone too and wondered "Is that how ranch life really is?" I like it, but it's so improbable (always some new baddie for the season trying to take their land who eventually will end up dead) and all the main characters are really hard to like and lots of problematic parts to it, etc...and yet I guess I'm hooked lol

The first few episodes I was like really how many characters can they have that are anti-heroes, but they're starting grow on me. Feel bad for Beth's assistants - it's like the Murphy Brown assistant thing only worse. Also I started to get more interested when I realized the Rip is played by Cole Hauser - the 4th amigo of the Good Will Hunting movie - because he's never gotten the success or attention of the other 3 actors in that movie & I like that he's gotten something interesting to do.

I didn’t even realize it was Cole Hauser until I was deep into it and saw a cast list. I knew him from the short lived show K-Ville that was set here in New Orleans. Never in a million years would I have recognized him!
