That 3A bit him in the behind, but I think the step sequence was the best he's done it all season. With Vincent being hungry and pushing himself to improve, Nathan will have to make a decision next season or the year after if he wants an OGM. A year off school or not.

Chen's jumps: 4S (first one attempted/landed in comp. all season), 3A+2T, 4T+3T, 3A fell out/hands down / 4T, 3Lz, 3F-half loop-3S. He's mad about the 2nd Axel.
199.49 (105.91/93.58) 1st

ETA: Hersh tweeted that Nathan fell on his 4S in his FS at the Japan Open invitational back in early October 2018 - I had forgotten about that attempt.

Vincent coming into his own is going to be the best thing for Nathan because now he will be pushed at home not just when he faces someone like Hanyu. The 3a used to be Nathan's worst jump but until that 2nd one he had landed every single one this season and they have looked better then just a couple of years ago. It's amazing that he could have an undefeated season while going to an elite school like Yale and it was smart not to go for 4 quads he's finally learned not to push his body beyond what it's capable of. I think like all the skaters here though he's a bit burned out and tired.

Zhou's jumps: 'Rippon' 4Lz nice flow out, 4S, 3F+3T, 4T / spread eagle to 3A+2T, 3A, Ripp3Lz-half loop-3S. He's thrilled and so is Mie Hamada!
198.50 (110.14/88.36) ISU SB 1st

ETA:

He won a World bronze 2 weeks ago - that's a pretty high note? ;)
IKR? US silver medalist, 4CCs and world bronze. I don't think he needed this for his note to be any higher.

Vincent did really well. Shoma showed a lot of guts to go for that jump and was seriously on in the first part of the program. Nathan is pretty obviously tired, but being first with 3 quads including a random 4S is pretty awesome. Tempted fate with that 2nd 3A and broke his axel streak. :duh:

Jack Gallagher's Day 2 recap includes quotes from the top 3 men: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports...mmanding-lead-world-team-trophy/#.XLDIn5jYrnF
Chen:
“I’m upset about that triple axel. It was the last axel of the season and I didn’t hit it,” Chen stated. “I kind of ruined that streak, but it’s something to look forward to for next season.”
The Salt Lake City native was satisfied with his performance under the circumstances.
“I think the program went OK. I was definitely holding back a bit as I am a little sick right now,” Chen noted. “I put 100 percent effort into the program and was happy I was able to do it.”
Zhou:
“That was the best skate I have ever had,” Zhou noted. “I felt more relaxed and confident in my technique than before. I think the reason for that is working with Hamada-sensei has really helped me develop my jump technique to a point where I can be more sure of where my body is and stack over myself so I have a better axis and landing.”
Zhou was very pleased when he saw the scores of the judges after his free skate.
“All the jumps were called clean. I think that was right this time,” Zhou remarked. “Everything felt super good and I’m proud to finally have a truly clean protocol.”
Uno on his first attempt of 3A+4T in competition:
“I have been practicing it and was determined to include it. There was no specific reason other than I wanted to do it,” Uno stated. “I felt fatigued after the salchow and didn’t have enough energy to complete the triple axel/quad toe loop. I lost control, but want to be able to incorporate it in the future.”

So Nathan's sick again. Sigh.

Just had an evaluation with a renowned ENT who when I indicated that my sinus issues really rev'ed up after flying said that the reg's for lab animal air quality on planes far exceeded those for humans! Four transcontinental flights exceeding 14 hours each and being under extreme stress does not help. And Nathan is not the only one considering how sick Kolyada has been. When I went to the NHK Trophy a few years ago and hung out with Johnny Weir and his entourage, he also had a severe sinus infection. I remember running around Nagano trying to find him some saline nasal spray with no success. It had to be filled by a pharmacist with no available aerosol/spray vehicle. I think that wearing a mask during flights may be one of the solutions but no guarantee of success.

I thought Vincent should have won the free skate.
Vincent's score is still too High compared to other men, truth be told so is Nathan's. No way is Vincent about as good as Keagan in components imho. The team placement is right though

Vincent had a rough season. Happy for him to end on a high note
Not sure how he's had a rough season considering that he's medaled at every event since the start of the year and that includes Nationals, 4CC and Worlds and finished right behind Nathan here. Vincent seems to struggle a bit at the start of the season and on the GP but he's a late season skater as he's proven over the last 3 seasons.
