Joining for the pairs free. I’m leaving in a drive to SoCal tomorrow morning.

How long do we have to wait for GP assignments?

Here and ready for Day 3! Anyone else really want to know who the peeps behind the judges wearing the animal masks are?

I was very impressed with the Korean pair team - but they are not actually from Korea, yes? I saw she was born in Canada (and he obviously is not Korean) so still no Korean pair training in the country or are there centers popping up?

I would imagine there are no Korean coaches for pairs.

Correct, but it's not as though Lim/Quan are any different in ice dance.

Yes. They train with McIntosh/Mimar & she competed at Canadian Nationals in Novice several years ago - just started pairs this season, IIRC. Adcock’s a veteran pair guy from GBR originally who has competed at CAN Nationals several times with previous partners.

pity, I hope they start building up pair and ice-dance centers in more countries!

ChoAd - really nice 3tw to open! SBS 3s+1e+2s - nice! And she's down on the SBS 3T. Well, at least they got those 2Ss in so they're part of the international club! She's really sound on the 3s with a beautiful throw again today. Eeek - lift fail, but she came down safely and that's good. Throw 2z - meh... Much better on this last lift. Duhamel's right, ending on a pairs combo spin is almost never a god idea. Well, overall, not too shabby. Work to be done still, for sure, but credible.

that was more than good from such a new team! Of course some issues like the aborted lift but what I liked especially is the unison in the steps and how well matched the steps already are!

and great to see all skaters from all countries happy clapping for them in the background.

Love some Rachmaninov to start us off - thanks Korean Pair team! As I complain about music so often, it's nice to put in a favourable post once in a while!

That first throw was a cracker!

Oh, second one not so good, What a shame.

First lift was not good, but at least they're not scary.

Hyejin Cho/Steven Adcock, Republic of Korea
Piano Concerto No. 2, C Minor by Rachmaninoff

3 Twist Lift 3
3S+1e+2S
3T< - she under rotated & fell
5 Axel Lasso Lift 4

Throw 3S
Forward Inside Death Sp 4

5 Rev Lasso Lift B - came down early
Th 2Lz - step out
Group 3 Lift 4
Choreo Sequence
Pair Combo Spin 4

This is bit more what I was expecting to see from such a new pairs team with so little competition experience. Still, some really good elements, and solid technique.

102.27 = 1st Place

I agree, but remember how difficult this is. First a country probably needs to have a high level skater(s) who then want to create a school & make skating their life. Both dance & pairs have traditionally required multiple coaches because of the number, and variety of elements. Also, with pairs there is a risk element that has to be carefully managed. Best bet would be to have one or regional centres in Asia (probably Japan) that other athletes could go to train similar to central Europe.

Additionally, you need to have depth in the men's program to support pairs and ice dance. Japan is really the only country in Asia that has the sort of depth to realistically support solid pairs and dance programs.

BTW - I couldn't be bothered to pay much attention to Les Kovs. They bore me.

ChoAd's combined SP+FS score = 162.82 - and that will put them 25th on the Pairs SB list. No guaranteed GP invitation, but very high on the alternates list!
They can at least go to a couple of Challenger events.

I hope Cho/Adcock can get some funding from KSF - since they only competed at Nationals, I'm not sure they qualify yet?
