Yikes. Not sure I agree with that behind Aymoz, but whatever. Team USA still won, lol.

Yeah, I really hope they don't go back to Razgulajevs for the FS choreo next season. There are better options, as we see with the SP from Shae-Lynn.
I'm not really worried. 5 quads and better choreo should prop him up very high next season, and there are many North American choreographers who'll want to help him and want to work with him after this season. 6 quads unneeded, but some of the special elements like the 3Lz+3A+3T (IIRC) should make a comeback, I'm sure the judges will like seeing it internationally.

Surprise fall on the quad axel for Malinin, but straight back with 2 more quads.

Jeez, Ilia - we're tired too. Please dial back the crazy quad ambitions next season and give us more good footwork and spins like we know you're capable of.
During the warm-up, when they showed Ilia's list of planned elements, they showed fewer quads, with a triple axel not a quad axel. I wonder if he had planned to dial things back and changed his content at the last minute and decided to go for the quad axel? Ilia placing so low compared to expectations is going to make him rethink his approach again.

Personally, I preferred Rizzo to Cha. I love Cha's quads, especially his quad sal, but the rest of his skating doesn't do much for me. I wouldn't have given him that 4-point plus PCS lead.

Here's the protocol:

https://results.isu.org/results/season2223/wtt2023/data0105.pdf

Was the crazy twist-y leap he did in his choreo steps a new thing?
I thought I'd seen him do it before. Maybe in his exhibition?

Speaking of exhibitions, are they going to show the exhibition somewhere where Americans can see it?

I don't see what was so great with Cha this season either, tbh. I like his 4S and he's a great spinner and that ina bauer is beautiful, but there are much better 4Ts out there (he really crawls into that and his 3A). I would have 100% placed him behind Rizzo, too, but it wouldn't really have mattered in the end if he was first or second.

Him getting nearly 93 PCS for this also means he's probably going to use this program as a blueprint in the future. One of his previous LPs worked much better for me, as did the previous season's SP...

----
I too hope Ilia finds a way to use that twist somersault into spin that he did at one of the ice shows this season. It's too fantastic to not be seen in a competitive program.

I like Rizzo`skating so much and his quads are so beautiful. Today he showed a theatricality. Maybe he should go the Fernandez route. Get David Wilson to build him a real story long program with his elements tucked in. It might bring his PCS into the top tier and differentiate him from pack - Grassl, Tomono, Fa, etc. (Not a criticism; I love things about these guys too)

That was a fun event to watch, even for a Canadian.

Thankfully, we have good pairs to look forward to next year. Can’t wait to see what DSD/MD and LP/TM come up with next.

It’s been a lot of fun to watch all the big comps with you FSUers. :cheer2:Here’s hoping for much less warhorse music from on.

I will watch the Gala, but probably not tonight.

Have a fantastic summer, everyone!

To be honest when the pairs events in the GP started I cringed….a lot. But over the course of the season I’ve loved seeing them evolve. I hope we see them continue into next season. And I certainly loved them last night. Particularly Alexa.

Is anyone able to figure out what the paychecks are for this? Curious how much KnFr got for example.
From the announcement document:
Prize Money
The organizing ISU Member (JSF) will make available the Global Prize Money amount (that is secured through the ISU agreements) for the ISU World Team Trophy of:
US$ 1’000’000
to the Skaters/Couples of the awarded teams. All prize money in favor of the Skaters/Couples will be paid via bank transfer by the organizing ISU Member (JSF) to the ISU Members of the Skaters/Couples of the awarded teams immediately after the ISU World Team Trophy based on the following scale:
  • 1st placed team: US$ 200’000
  • 2nd placed team: US$ 170’000
  • 3rd placed team: US$ 160’000
  • 4th placed team: US$ 150’000
  • 5th placed team: US$ 140’000
  • 6th placed team: US$ 130’000.
Appearance Fees
Competitors from the Qualified Teams for the ISU World Team Trophy having ranked either in the top 3 of the preceding ISU World Figure Skating Championships and/or being ranked in the ISU Seasonal World Ranking (status after the preceding ISU World Figure Skating Championships) in the top 3 positions, will receive the following Appearance Fees:
  • Ranked 1st: US$ 30’000
  • Ranked 2nd: US$ 20’000
  • Ranked 3rd: US$ 10’000
In case Competitors are ranked among the top 3 in both, the preceding ISU World Championships and in the ISU Seasonal World Ranking, then the better ranking among the two options applies. For example, a World Champion who in the ISU Seasonal World Ranking is ranked second, would receive an Appearance Fee of US$ 30’000, hence the two options are not cumulative. Consequently, the maximum Appearance Fees for each Event amounts to US$ 480’000, namely the maximum for four disciplines and the hypothetical case that all ISU World Figure Skating Championships medalists and World Ranking top 3 positions are all different.

The payment of the Appearance Fee is subject to the concerned Competitors completing the two segments during the ISU World Team Trophy. If the concerned Competitors compete only in one segment, then the applicable Appearance Fee shall be reduced by 50%.

Appearance Fees for invited Skaters to the exhibition
The Skaters/Couples being invited and participating in the exhibition only (see paragraph 3.1) above), will receive the following appearance fees (Total US$ 50’000)
  • 2 Single Skaters: US$ 10’000 each per Skater
  • 1 Pair Skating Couple / 1 Ice Dance Couple: US$ 15’000 each per Couple

$35,000 each for both Alexa and Brandon.

$20,000 from being second at Worlds, $25,000 each for finishing on the winning team- each member of team USA receives $25,000 for the first-place $200,000 pot.
Actually, it's $40k because they came in #1 in the WS, so they get $30k not $20k. The prize money is $30k for 1st in either the WS or at Worlds, so MiuKih will get $35k - $30k for WC1 that they split and then $20k each for coming in 3rd here.

Ilia made the most - $45k due to his WS2 ($20k) and 1st place here ($25k).

The following skaters/teams get the WC/WS Top 3 bonus on top of the WTT team prize monies -

1st ($30k) - Sakamoto (1/1), KniFraz (2/1), MiuKih (1/2), GuiFab (2/1) and ChoBat (1/2)
2nd ($20k) - Cha (2/3), Malinin (3/2), H Lee (2/4)
3rd ($10k) - Mihara (5/3), ConMac (3/4), GilPoir (3/4)

Not a bad payday at all, lol.

No, Tony is correct about the appearance fee for Knierim/Frazier's partnership, which is $20,000.
WTT appearance fees do not go by ISU World Standings.
WTT appearance fees go by ISU Season's World Rankings and/or Worlds placements, per the WTT announcement.

From my earlier tally of WTT appearance fees (in the WTT general thread):

Dance appearance fees:
USA Chock/Bates $30,000 (first at Worlds) [third in SWR]
ITA Guignard/Fabbri $30,000 (first in SWR) [second at Worlds]
CAN Gilles/Poirier $10,000 (third at Worlds)

Pairs appearance fees:
JPN Miura/Kihara $30,000 (first at Worlds) [second in SWR]
ITA Conti/Macii $30,000 (first in SWR) [third at Worlds]
USA Knierim/Frazier $20,000 (second at Worlds)

Men appearance fees:
KOR Cha $20,000 (second at Worlds) [third in SWR]
USA Malinin $20,000 (second in SWR) [third at Worlds]

Women appearance fees:
JPN Sakamoto $30,000 (first at Worlds, first in SWR)
KOR Lee $20,000 (second at Worlds)
USA Levito $20,000 (second in SWR)

I woke up in the middle of the night so I put on Peacock and watched it all

Pairs was so amazing and oh my gosh to see Alexa and Brandon skate like that even despite the fall what a masterful program even though I don’t care for the music lol I hope so much they go to Milan, sure take next year off to rest if you want but then come back 💜💜💜💜💜

Surprising to see ilia have those mistakes and he finished what sixth or fifth? Wow

Great performances and a great event, the only thing I got right in my predictions was USA coming in first. And then I was starting to suspect team Korea could make it into second and I entertained that with. @Karen-W and it happened.

overall, what a great event
