Men’s SP
Pairs SP

Friday, August 30

Any FSUers planning to go? Head count so far (copying over from the other thread):
Yes, I already booked a hotel for Thurs and Friday and I got Thurs-Mon off. Plan on driving overnight both ways :shuffle:
I'll be there, with 4rkidz. Looking forward to it!
Driving up on Wednesday and staying midway in Malta until Thursday AM and then will be in Lake Placid until Sunday when I'll drive home.

Spoke to the box office who indicated that they expect ticket prices to approximate what they were the last time the JGP was held in Lake Placid. $10 per day and $25 for the entire event. They'll be able to confirm within the next few weeks.

Most of my skater favs have retired so I’m excited to discover new skaters especially the pairs! Plus a beautiful time of year to drive to Lake Placid, will look forward to meeting up with fellow FSU fans.

Thanks Sylvia, really excited for the JGP to start. Will they be showing it all on the ISU YouTube channel again? That was so good.

Also very nice to see France are sending some more Junior men for a change!

Yes, that setup is continuing.

Junior dance will be very interesting this year. Splits, move-ups, and age-ups have really hit the ranks pretty hard; there are very few teams left over who either won a JGP medal or placed in the top ten at Worlds. There's a clear top two (Nguyen/Kolesnik and Ushakova/Nekrasov), and then a lot of question marks below; also notable in that most of the other returning teams with high placements/medals are from outside the Russia/US/Canada trifecta.

Czech entries for the first two
JGP Courchevel (FRA): Daniel Mrázek (alt Filip Ščerba), Nikola Rychtaříková (alt
Klára Štěpánová)
JGP Lake Placid (USA): Matyáš Bělohradský, Natálie Taschlerová / Filip Taschler.
That's funny. According to the main JGP announcement, there should not be a Czech dance team at Lake Placid. That's the one event they don't have a dance spot at. They do have a spot at JGP France.

Maybe another federation handed a dance spot back and they were first on the list to pick up an extra place?

Only teams who initially get 1 spot at each event (category b) are supposed to be able to get extras:

2.3 Ice Dance:
a) 2 entries in 7 events: ISU Members placed one (1) to three (3) at the previous ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships may enter two (2) Skaters in all seven (7) events of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating.
b) 1 entry in 7 events: ISU Members placed four (4) to six (6) at the previous ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships are entitled to enter one (1) Skater in seven (7) events of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating.
c) 1 entry in 6 events: ISU Members placed seven (7) to ten (10) at the previous ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships are entitled to enter one (1) Skater in six (6) events of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating in the category concerned.

Additional Entries For Ice Dance if any ISU Member mentioned under a) to c) does not use its right to enter Skaters in the competition concerned, this slot will be given to the first ISU Member, mentioned under b) for an additional entry. If another ISU Member mentioned under a) to c) does not use its right to enter Skaters in the competition concerned, this slot will be given to the second ISU Member mentioned under b). If all ISU Members under b) receive the right of a second entry, all further places not used will not be considered for replacement. The order of priority as listed has to be observed.

The Czech Republic was in category c).

Clearly I had that the wrong way round in my memory. :) Maybe they negotiated a switch with another federation then, if that's even possible? Or just made an error in their document, which is probably more likely.

In the document I linked with the entries it says the Czech federation requested the ISU to switch to the USA JGP since that's where there dance team was training. And the ISU approved the request.

Australia is slowly announcing their representatives via Facebook.

Victoria Alcantara is going to Lake Placid, and Amelie Tabor is going to Chelyabinsk.

Both skaters are brand new to the junior level, too.

Alcantara is training at the Cricket Club for the winter (summer) this year, so Lake Placid makes logistical sense for her.

At least some of those will be placeholders, though - for Courcheval and for Lake Placid both. I know some of the countries that do test skates to determine places don't hold them until early August when juniors start to come back from their summer training camps.

JGP Courchevel starts in a month and there's still no full entry list. Is it normally like that and I'm just being impatient for the season to start in earnest? I mean, I definitely am impatient, but come on already!!

Last year they came out about three weeks before each event, didn't they? And the early lists especially are really only provisional anyway.
