2018 Philadelphia Summer Championships (club comp.) & SR International, August 1-5, Aston, PA

I saw official practice for the international men's FS. Their schedule for the weekend was grueling. I guess it is normal for them to have warmups, then skate the short, then have official FS practice right after, ending at 8 pm, then the next day have warmups at 8am. I could not do that.

For FS practice, Dolensky did an entire run through, jumps and all. Torgeshev did all his choreo and jumps, but no spins. Rowe did all choreo but no jumps. Pulkenin did only the jumps and just the steps leading into the jumps. He was wiping out A LOT. I don't know how his body can take it. Also, he seemed to be favoring his left knee.

I really enjoyed seeing the guys in person. Such a privilege.
Dolensky has a solid, upright, enthusiastic look on the ice. Torgeshev does "emotion" better than anyone and does twice as many steps. Pulkinen moves exquisitely, the most gorgeous glide. And Ma of course, is personality-plus.

She popped 5 jumps.
That sounds really out of the ordinary, even for someone with so-so consistency. I hope she can shake it off. I know what this sounds like, but it really does seem like a boot issue or something really unusually funky happened right before.

I watched the warmup before the event + her group warmup. I thought she looked focused with the usual pre-competition jitters. (IMHO McBeath looked more nervous than Glenn in the warmups.) There were some popped jumps, but nothing out of the usual to suggest what was to come. Watching her program unfold was really difficult and a low note to end the Ladies' event. I feel uncomfortable even discussing it this much, and hope Amber fares much better in the upcoming season.

I think she will. She seems fairly tenacious, at least from what I've seen on the ice before. I've seen her have mishaps and then pick back up and get the job done. Just chalk it up to one of those days. Sorry it had to happen at Liberty. (I know...it will always be Liberty to me. ;) . )

marysy (who doesn't have access in here) posted links to her 8 videos in the U.S. Men's thread in GSD:

It was interesting to see how the new range of GOE came into play. In the Ladies SP, Judge 1, Raffaella Locatelli, didn't seem to hesitate to give 4's and a 5. Aside from one of Dolensky's spins, not for the FS or the other Men (where she was Judge 3). Judge 5, Mary Chapman, gave out a few 4's for the Ladies FS, and then more to the Men, where she was also Judge 5.
