2018 Academy Awards Red Carpet & Ceremony

Actually, Shape of Water did not get nominated for SAG while 3BB won and 3BB just swept the BAFTAs. However, SoW won Producer's Guild and Director's Guild. The fact that 3BB lost Screenplay and wasn't nominated for Best Director may be a sign that it may lose Best Pic though there's been a split between Director and Pic for the past few years thanks to the preferential ballot used in Best Pic.
Sorry I didn't specify that I meant 'Shape of Water' started to pick up momentum after the Screen Actor's Guild, even though '3 Billboards ...' won, not because of it.

I'm glad "The Shape of Water" won for best soundtrack. I thought the music was very effective in the film.

Jennifer Garner has like Meagan Duhamel level arms/shoulders.

Out of all the songs I heard his was the only one I would listen to more than once.

I actually do think the Coco was a deserving winner as well as the song was really effective in the movie, which is what this category is supposed to award. I just have an irrational love for Sufjan haha. Also, I think these abridged performances where we only heard like 1 minute and a half of the song did none of these songs real justice.

Eddie Vedder is giving me major high school feels

I wonder if they decided to have Emma Stone present Best Director instead of Best Actor since Casey Affleck wasn’t doing Best Actress.

I love a good movie montage so these montages have been making me very happy.

Ready for Gary Oldman's coronation? I can't wait for Timothee Chalamet to do a generic biopic in 40 years so he can win his first Oscar.

I have to be real with all of you. Every time I say The Shape of Water out loud or in my head, I say "I'm in love with the Shape of Water."
Hahaha me too. Meanwhile my son keeps singing the Jojo classic "Get Out" every time that movie is up.

Wow Gary Oldman what a surprise.......

I was hoping Get Out could surprise with a win, but happy with a win for Guillermo del Toro.

Well that lasted forever! But I'm happy "Three Billboards" didn't win. Roger Deakins long awaited win was one of the best highlights of awards for me. He was the Susan Lucci of cinematographers.

Frances McDomand's speech was good too, but I'm sorry, I just could not abide that film. :shuffle:

There's been a few posts about domestic abuse in regards to Gary Oldman. Finally had to google this.

Gary Oldman just won the Oscar for Best Actor. He’s also been accused of domestic violence.

In 2001, Oldman’s now ex-wife, Donya Fiorentino, said that Oldman choked her and beat her with a telephone in front of their young children. In an interview earlier this year with the Independent, Fiorentino reiterated her story, saying, “Our marriage was a giant car crash in which demented things happened. I lost my self-esteem...I was broken. I would rather get eaten by a great white shark than go through that marriage again.”

Oldman has denied Fiorentino’s claims, saying through a representative that the police investigated her story and pressed no charges.

Then the article mentions a 2014 interview in Playboy magazine:

Over the course of the interview, Oldman defended Mel Gibson for his infamous anti-Semitic tirade (“We’ve all said those things. … The policeman who arrested him has never used the word ‘ni**er’ or ‘that f***ing Jew’?”), lamented that Hollywood had become so politically correct that he could no longer call Nancy Pelosi “a ****ing useless c##t” with impunity, and declared that the reason 12 Years a Slave won the Oscar for Best Picture is that people were afraid that if they didn’t vote for it, they would be considered racist.

Wow. Charming, Mr. Oldman.

:vomit emoticon:

Great, great speech. I loved the nominated women standing.

Me too. But there were shockingly few of them especially if you consider that nine of them were bound to be women for best actress/best supporting actress.

However, during the Oscars I was wondering if it was me or if most of the Oscars went to white men. Considering how few women stood, it seems that that wasn't merely an impression.

The show was too long, despite the lure of the jet skis for the shortest speech. I was shocked that to sweeten the pot they added a stay at Days Inn in Lake Havasu City. No offense to that hotel chain but I didn't think people from showbiz would stay there. There are better hotels in Lake Havasu City. I have been planning to visit it for sometime. Just haven't made it.

Back to the Oscars. I was glad that Three billboards did not win the Best picture. The shape of water is a good movie. I was slightly disappointed that Dunkirk did not win BP, but without any acting nominations it is tough for a movie to win the BP. Del Torro!s win was predictable but BP was not because Three billboards was winning everything. For me it was the most flawed movie (though entertaining) among the 9 BP nominees. It deserved the acting Oscars though.

Happy that Call me by your name won for Adapted screenplay and thrilled for Peele's win for original screenplay.

I have always liked Alexander Desplatt's original scores, so I was glad that he won. For me Dunkirk and Shape were almost a tie in many categories (BP, Dirctor, original score, production design, cinematography).

The acting Oscars have become too predictable. The show is getting longer and boring. I can't believe it took 4 hours this year! I would like it to end in three. Drop all the fluff and just announce the winners. In most cases we already know who they are.

As much as I love political and social issues, the Oscars could at least cut down those by 50 percent. It got to be too much even for me. I like Jimmy Kimmel but he really needs to cut down the show to a manageable length. Resist the temptation to create more humor.
