2018-19 Programs and Choreographers

The music is ~20 years ago Cohen/Nikodinov. I like the song and I was a big fan of the ‘live’ version they played on MTV constantly when I was a kid, but unfortunately, I don’t see it being a great choice now other than in a cheesy exhibition.

Now that you mentioned the video, you made me think of something. VH1 used to have a show where they would show random groups of people (usually of one demographic) a music video and record their reactions on the spot. One of my faves was a group of elders' reaction to J.Lo's "Waiting for Tonight" and they kept talking about how she was getting herself ready for sex with varying reactions about that. That show showed a bunch of elementary school aged children (like they were 8-10) a video of that song where Celine is singing with that violinist. The kids started talking about how Celine and the other woman must have been lesbians and in love with each other and that's all they kept talking about it.

I wonder if M/C will perform Desde El Alma to lyrics:

No lyrics. (Which I think is a good thing. It keeps the program cohesive. I didn't even realize when I watched it live that there were two separate pieces of music).

Vinyame was kind enough to post video links to the rhythm dances and free dances from McNamara & Carpenter and the Parson in the U.S. Ice Dance thread.

Ton Consul posted an Instagram Story a week or so ago on the ice at St. Leonard with "Great Gig in the Sky" playing in the background for someone. For what that's worth!

Daisuke said "I hope in SP I will be able to express its world firmly, with the idea overflowing in the choreography and with its piano melody. For LP, a unique choreography brought out a new style.”
Thanks! i am sure anything by Diasuke will look great! interesting choices...

Per KMT’s insta story Moore-Towers/Marinaro are skating to:

SP: Leona Lewis cover of “the first time ever I saw your face”

LP: Pink Floyd medley

Decent choices.

The First Time is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It was on my list for someone to skate to. I might have given it to Weaver and Poje for their FD for these past Olympics as a more evolved Je Suis Malade.

I find the Leona Lewis version lacking soul and a bit screechy. I don't think anyone has been able to touch Roberta Flack on this, although many have tried. As much as I prefer modern cuts on many classics, I would have gone straight to the original source on this one. Let's see how it goes.

The Sheltering Sky for Daisuke will be great... I enjoyed Muramoto/Reed's program to this music. I can picture the footwork sequences already!

I'm really really really hoping Daisuke can go to Worlds so that I can see him perform live finally :cheer2:

Of all the pairs out there,...they chose this song :drama:

It has the potential to be as cringeworthy as Walsh/Michaud's interpretation of "I just can't help falling in love with you" on the JGP last year.

It's probably best that they do more of a pop version that doesn't command as much emotion. I'm not sure if they could tap into the soulful elements of a version like Flack's. Let's see what they come up with.

So you guys don't like love ballads. I didn't find Walsh/Michaud's former music selection 'cringeworthy.' Its just a matter that how you choose to work with such a selection can be dicey if it ends up not having much depth and resonance. It can be syrupy sweet and trivial. I thought what they ended up with was okay for the junior ranks. W/M seemed to be trying to channel a bit of Pap/Ciz and James/Cipres with their program choices and costumes that season. Everyone tries to find inspirations. I think they reworked at least one of those programs though. It's a matter of making choices and seeing what works and what doesn't, unless you are Tar/Mor and decide to ignore what doesn't work and still end up being rewarded for dreck. :wall:

Julie Marcotte usually makes deft choices, so we'll see how it turns out. Let's face it, everyone was wrong about the KMT/MM partnership, so let's wait a bit before passing judgment on their music choices this season. But sure if you don't like love ballads, cover your ears or use their new sp as a fridge break. :D

Amy Lin SP:
'Now we are free' (instrumental, Gladiator OST)
weird music cut in the end to a different piece (not the Gladiator OST)
